This was a remarkable book about a remarkable couple. Dana was a saint standing by her man when he became paralyzed after accidentally falling off his horse during the Memorial Day weekend in 1995. If it weren't for this love, compassion, support, and care, there was no way actor Christopher Reeve would have had the strength to continue his life. Christopher Reeve became famous as "Superman" in a series of movies about the action hero. His Superwoman was Dana Reeve. Dana died of l...more
Emotional and heartwrenching, this is still an excellent book! I learned a lot more about Christopher and Dana Reeve and their friends and family in Christopher Andersen's wonderful story.
One of the most interesting facts is that Chris and Robin Williams were roommates at Julliard!
But, I also picked up intimate details of Chris & Dana's life, especially after he was injured. There were lots of little things I didn't know like how much movement he had towards the end of hi...more

I finished this today and was completely amazed at my reaction even though I KNEW what was going to happen. Dana Reeve sounds like an amazing woman, one we'd all like to call our friend. She is an optimist with an incredible burden but carried out pretty casually due to a deep love and devotion to her husband and family. I cannot imagine being the surviving son- an orphan at 13. I think the part that really got me was the fact that this young boy lost both parents and his maternal grandmother in...more
There are parts of this book that just amaze me. I think Dana Reeve is a remarkable woman and I just enjoyed reading about their family's challenges and triumphs.
Other than a few of his films, that he'd had a riding accident, and that he championed for spinal cord research (especially with stem cells and was thus "against" George W. Bush and "for" the guys I candidates I didn't like), I knew very little of Christopher Reeve's life. From what I saw from a distance (but did not actively pursue to know more about), I admired his courage and stamina. I vaguely knew when Christopher Reeve died, since it was during my college years. As I wa...more
Both Christopher and Dana Reeve had more courage than 1,000 people put together. This was truly a story of many things...unconditional love, courage, strength, hope, honesty, integrity, grace, sadness, grief and living!!
From dust jacket:
"He was a hero in every sense of the word - the chiseled-from-granite star of four blockbuster Superman films and the romantic classic 'Somewhere in Time' who, after being paralyzed in a freak horseback-riding accident, became a symbo...more

This book on CD was choosen from the library at the last minute before a weekend trip I took alone to see my mother. The beginning was a 'E-Hollywood' type look at Christopher and Dana's lives, with the most enjoyable segment being their own courtship. The book obviously points out our vulverable position in life, that every thing can change in an instant. Christopher Reeves truly had a risk taking attitude about his activities in life, and could have been injured/killed many times before his t...more
As I had read Still me (Christopher Reeve's autobiography) I was interested in this book as well. As it turns out, this book is more about Dana than Christopher. During her marriage to Chris, Dana seemed to stay out of the news and was quite content to do so.
The book goes into a great deal of detail about how supportive Dana was during the years after the injury that left Chris a quadriplegic. The book also speaks very openly about how hard it was to cover medical expenses. At th...more

I am glad that this was a book club selection because it is not a book I would normally choose. I enjoyed the story of true love and caring that was Christopher and Dana Reeve's story. And the twists of fate that helped their tradgies become a way to makes others look at spinal injuries and then cancer and want to do something positive about helping find a cure helped make their too short lives mean even more.
I was so impressed with this book. One of the challenges on the fall challenge was to read a book on your hero as it would have been Christopher Reeve's birthday. As I had this biography on the shelf it prompted me to pick it up.
I found it a truly amazing story. It followed the life of Christopher and Dana Reeve before and after his tragic accident. They were both worthy of 'hero' status in the way that they dealt with the tragedy. He worked so hard to achieve his belief that he woul...more

Wow! What a love story! The thing that made this book so compelling is the real world struggle of caring for and loving a spouse with an all encompassing disability. This book truly gave me perspective on the petty issues that I get upset about and allowed me to refocus on the true meaning of being in love with a person, not what they can do, not what they accomplish, but with them as an individual.
Having read Still Me back when Christopher Reeve was still alive and full of hope, I wasn't sure that I wanted to know how this love story ended. The same story, in a different voice. Very sad, but still hopeful. I think their surviving children will continue the legacy, the next generation moves on...
The devotion that these two shared is inspiring and the trials and struggles that they went through simply overwhelming. I believe that they made a difference in spinal cord research as well as research for lung cancer. I wish Matthew, Alexandra and Will all the best.
Make sure you have tissues next to you reading this one! Amazing. This book proves the power of love. It is amazing how just being loved and loving others can make life worthwhile. This book reminds me to stop taking so much for granted. It is a book that I think will stick with me for a long time.

I listened to this on CD and cried through half of it. This is an inspiring book about the Reeves. They are presented as a little "too perfect" in this book. Christopher Reeve's book "Still Me" was a bit more honest about his life.
Sweet book about love, devotion, intimacy, and commitment thru "sickness and health." Of course I knew the ending but didn't know the "getting there". Their son lost both parents and a beloved grandmother in < 3 yr. Makes one wonder why some people have so much strength and others crumble over minor events.
I enjoyed reading this true love story. It was interesting to read how they dealt with their trials. I also watched the last movie that he helped direct, Everyone's Hero. Interesting.
Wow! This was a well written book about the Chris and Dana Reeve, about their lives together and how they conquered the seemingly insurmountable challenges they would face. I loved how seamlessly the book flowed and how well the author captured the special relationship they had. I always admired them after Chris's accident and was saddened to hear of his death, about 19 months later, Dana also passed away due to lung cancer. These are two remarkable people who stayed true to their vows to ea...more
It was a skim at best. Not well written and the characters, larger than life, didn't translate well. Their story is remarkable and terribly sad, but this book didn't capture it.
An excellant book about courage & love and how much Chris achieved ven after the accident. And Dana too was an inspiration. Two lives cut to short. Highly reccomended.
I was impressed with what a great relationship they had and how amazing Dana was through that whole episode when Christopher had his accident.

This book starting out was kinda slow, but once I got into it, I got through it fast.
This is such an amazing story of Chris Reeve and his wife Dana and the events leading up to his accident. It shares the love they had for each other, and the struggles they went trough in a day to day life.
I learned many new facts that I didn't know before and found out about what a good man Christopher Reeve was. I even learned how he had the start of feeling returning to his body,...more

A love story to keep you going. I listened to this one in the car and sometimes didn't want to arrive at my destination so soon.
This is a wonderful biography on Dana and Chris. While I felt profound sadness while reading the book, it truely was a wonderful love story about two remarkable people and the lives they touched during their brief journey here. It gave very detailed information on their day to day struggles, both before and after Chris' devastating accident and the accomplishments of both Chris and Dana in spite of it. Chris definitely had a very fulfilling life in spite of his physical limitations, which dri...more
LOVE CHRISTOPHER REEVE AND HIS AND DANA'S STORY WAS TRULY A WONDERFUL LOVE STORY.
A MUST READ TRUE STORY.
A MUST READ TRUE STORY.
One of the most wonderful books I've read. It shows you how true love really works, Amust read.
I loved learning more about their situation and seeing how much in love the two of them were.
The relationship that these two people built and sustained was beautiful.
Not to dis on the dead movie star, but this book was terrible. I blame the author.
