Super freaking cute! I think I said everything last time I read this, but, wow. Seriously adorable. I love when the hero/heroine have a history, and when they've become sorta semi-enemies, but overcome their issues by the end. LOVE it!!

The Ex Games by Jennifer Echols is a fun romance set in Colorado over winter break. It's two main characters, Nick and Hayden are not the tocken Young Adult Romance or Romantic Comdedy characters, either. Nick's rich because his family has Krieger Meats and Meat Products so they live in the big house, have the great cars and he has the girls fawning over him and Hayden (a vegetarian, by the way) moved to Colorado with her hippieish parents in junior high and loves, loves, loves snowboarding. But...more
A romantic comedy series of two ex's who were dating somewhat in the seventh grade but when Hayden finds out what bet Nick has made she ends their relationship. Now in the eleventh grade but their friends are now dating each other and they want Nick and Hayden back together. During Christmas break everyone is up in the mountains doing some skiing but when Nick and Hayden run into each other they get into an argument and soon a wager is set as who is the best skier; Nick or Hayden so it becomes a...more
This month I read the EX GAMES by Jennifer Echols. This book is realistic fiction and was a pretty quick read for me. The main characters are Hayden, Nick, Gavin, Chloe, Liz, and Davis, they are all sophomores in high school and live in Colorado. Hayden is the main character in the book, she was raised in Tennessee, and has good parents and a younger brother. In fifth grade in Tennessee, Hayden broke her leg very badly while trying to climb a mountain. She had to use a wheelchair for a full year...more
My heart had no reason—repeat, no reason—to skip two beats, or possibly three, just because I’d made Nick laugh.
- Hayden
I may have spoken a bit too loudly so he could hear me over my heart, which was no longer skipping beats. It was hammering out a beat faster than Poseur’s drummer.
- Hayden
In real life Nick was adorable, funny, and smart, but in my fantasies he had the additional fictional component of honestly wanting to go out with me.
- Hayden
I remembered every detail of that first five minute...more

Another comedy hit for Jennifer Echols, but after reading so many of her books, I've noticed a pattern; she's good with humor, not so good with drama. The characters in The Ex Games are likable and funny (Echols creates some seriously amazing characters when she's on her game) and the plot is simple and sweet, but there's one glaring problem that keeps me from rating this book any higher than two stars; the "drama" is borderline nonsensical. I was really having a hard time getting past it. Nick...more
Girls versus Boys, what team are you on?
When we are young we quite often we hear from our bffs that if a boy treats you bad and kind of drives you crazy it probably means that he likes you, do you think that's true?
Hayden and Nick fight like cat and dog, four years ago they had a quick relationship and it didn't end well. Hayden went beserk and Nick, oh well, Nick just acted like the typical boy. The problem p is neither got over each other and their mission.....drive each other to insanity!!!!...more

Echols has written yet another amazing book, which is really no surprise seeing as how amazing her previous books were, particularly Going Too Far. What I love about her books is that they're always much more than just strictly romance/comedies. The stories and characters have depth and there is always some big drama happening (not of the petty kind though). In this book, Echols takes on gender roles in sports and does an amazing job with talking about the issue without becoming preachy or hitti...more
A fluffy little read about the battle of the sexes and a battle of the exes.
Hayden and Nick are a fun pair to read about. Echols writes great characters and these are no exception. But if you're expecting a story with the depth of Forget You or Going Too Far, you might be a bit disappointed. These characters skim along more on the surface, or maybe I should say they glide along on the surface since much of the book is about snowboarding.

Since their very public breakup four years ago, Hayden and Nick have been just friends, at best. So what if Hayden's best friends are now with Nick's best friends? So what if Nick has seemed to be flirting with Hayden lately? Hayden will not give in to Nick's hunkiness, no matter how much she enjoys the flirting. When Hayden wins the girls' division of a local snowboarding competition, Nick derides her victoray by declaring she couldn't hold her own against a guy. Oh, it's on now. How Hayden and...more
So Hayden and Nick dated back in 7th grade. They're in 11th grade now and they're friendly, although they tease each other like crazy. Hayden still likes Nick and she thinks after the most recent touchy-feely way he's been acting that he may like her again. But Hayden has doubts about Nick's feelings because of what broke them up back in 7th grade. And then once their mutual friends stir up their competitive juices and pit them against each other, Hayden is even more unsure about Nick's intentio...more
Hayden and Nick are ex's with a past- one that includes a very messy and public break up. Four years and a million snarky flirtatious lines later, Hayden is still crushing on the boy who broke her heart. Yet when he declares that he could out board her she can't back down and the two of them agree to a comp that sparks a boy vs girl snowboarding sensation. However, with a crippling fear of heights and a mistrust for the boy whom she adores yet broke her heart, Hayden just seems to be headed for...more
I loved this book. If you go back through my reviews I have only used the word love a couple of times in my reviews. This book had everything that I looked for in a book, lots of humor, romance, and the pages kept moving. I love when I can pick up a book and not want to put it down.
The book starts off with Hayden-or as Nick calls her, Hoyden- and her and Nick have been kicked out of class for talking and are sitting in the hall. Hayden and Nick had dated in 7th grade but broke up when Hayden fo...more

Brace yourself for the battle of the exes. Did I mention how much I love the “battle of the sexes/exes theme”? This book is pure escapism, it’s like a summer read for winter break and again I was really impressed by Jennifer Echols.

I’ve been seeing this book a lot as I surf through different book review sites and finally decided to go pick up a copy for myself. This was a fun, light romantic story. I enjoyed Hayden’s character as well as Nick’s. They have great chemistry together, but not the best communication skills. They had a TON of misunderstandings over really simple things. I don’t blame Hayden for being reluctant to trust Nick, what with their history and all. But I couldn’t understand why Nick was surprised that H...more

As an unashamed Echolsite, the arrival of this title brought an immediate smile to my face. Echols is gifted at quick, sparky rapport and this novel is no different. Unlike many other novels in YA, Hayden and Nick have tried the relationship route and failed (albeit in seventh grade). Communication is arguably not the strength of teens and Echols mines this with thorough efficiency with numerous misunderstandings, agendas and wounded feelings. Though the conclusion of the novel is as expected, t...more
In brief: Hayden and Nick used to have a thing, but they broke up... now it's a competition to see just who is the better snow-boarder. Will their feelings for each other get in the way of winning the competition?
The good bits: Jennifer Echols writes really good YA romance... this does not disappoint. Hayden and Nick have a lot of sexual tension between them.
The bad bits: The book is over too soon!

This was another sweet Jennifer Echols Romantic Comedy from the Simon Pulse series thereof. Which I am totes getting into (trying to style the linguistic spirit of said series and all). This one kind of reminded me of that snowboarding episode of Rocket Power, if you remember that show, only now Reggie is all grown up, cute, and formidable on the slopes, but with boys (one in particular) still a betty (I'm mildly suspicious of the accuracy of the snowboard lingo in the clever chapter heads, but...more
This book was marked a romantic comedy, but I did not find it funny, so that was disappointing. I also was uncomfortable with the fact that their first dating relationship was in seventh grade. That just seems young to be kissing, etc. That said, I know it is fairly common. (And yes, sister, I did have a boyfriend before seventh grade, but we did not kiss!) Haha. Now I can honestly say I'm not being hypocritical.
Also, I was uncomfortable with the many repetitions of the word "crotch." It was sai...more

It was a nice change to have the respective best friends coupled before the actual heroine and hero. Said best friends are actively pushing for Nick and Hayden to hook up again. Nick, however, needs no further encouragement. He’s chasing Hayden in his own twisted boy fashion all by himself. I liked the coupling. There’s Liz and Davis who are politely considerate and Gavin and Chloe who are happily aggressive.

The Ex Games by Jennifer Echols was a pretty good read. I enjoyed following Hayden, a girl from Tennessee who now lives in Snowfall, Colorado. Hayden, the outdoorsy type, immediately takes to snowboarding, and she and her younger brother both aspire to become professional snowboarders. The only problem is that an accident, in which Hayden broke her leg back in Tennessee, has resulted in Hayden developing a fear of heights, a major problem for professional snowboarders who need to go off jumps. This was such good fun! I loved the characters Nick and Hayden – they were well fleshed out and I adored the banter between the two. I thought Hayden’s past was woven into the present in a really clever way and added to the overall story – giving a depth to it I wasn’t really expecting. I also enjoyed the interactions that Hayden had with her friends and family – she had a really good (and very witty) relationship with her brother – I LOVED the whole ‘toy boy’ on the jeans thing - and through th...more
The Ex Games was a very typical, young-adult rom-com chick lit, but it was just so cute & fluffy! I really enjoyed reading this.
The story revolves around Hayden & Nick, they dated when they were in the seventh grade but it didn’t work out. Fast forward 4 years to their junior year. Throw in a boy v. girl snowboarding competition, an extra set of exes, a hilarious and endearing little brother who apparently loves to rap, matchmaker friends, a steamy sauna scene, and voila! Certain parts of this were really good and cute. I liked Hayden's relationship with her brother - it seemed realistic, and it added a nice other dimension to her character. There were good parts between Hayden and Nick that seemed real; parts that were funny and parts that were sexy. Overall, though, I was really frustrated by the characters. Nick is a jerk to Hayden without good reason, and someone close to the end of high school shouldn't still tease a girl because he likes her, as if he's stu...more

Jennifer Echols was born in Atlanta and grew up in a small town on a beautiful lake in Alabama—a setting that has inspired many of her books. She has written nine romantic novels for young adults, including the comedy MAJOR CRUSH, which won the National Readers’ Choice Award, and the drama GOING TOO FAR, which was a finalist in the RITA, the National Readers’ Choice Award, and the Book Buyer’s Bes...more
