Just finished. This is the third book in the series, so I'm probably missing something. Or maybe not, because the author endlessly reiterates the emotional talking points of the book: I love this guy, he doesn't love me, I have sex with this other guy, oops, I love him too...
Fun premise: The end of the world is in the process of happening. Buffy and the Scooby gang have to stop it, and have lots of sex on the way.

The third in this pre-apocalyptic (well definitely not post-apocalyptic) series, we continue to follow Liz Pheonix in her adventures as the leader of light to stop the coming apocalypse. And when I say stop, I really mean slow down. Through the course of the three books you get a real sense for the inevitablitiy of the doomsday that was put in motion with the murder of Liz’s foster mother Ruthie in the first book.

I really like this series overall but I'm beginning to get frustrated with the interaction between Jimmy, Liz, and Sawyer. I know this is not a gushy romance but can Liz just please catch a break with her love life. Jimmy acts like he can't stand to be around her and he doesn't hide that fact from her. And Sawyer, well....after reading this book, Liz and Sawyer's relationship went to a whole new level of f*cked up. I still like the series and I think Liz is kick ass, she does whatever she ha...more
I read this book a few days ago and have been trying to figure out how to but it all into words. I can start by saying that this is actually book 3 of the Phoenix Chronicles. It has that same basic cast of characters as the others (Liz, Jimmy, Sawyer and Summer). There is still the continuing concept of Liz as the seer, Jimmy a DK (demon killer) and Sawyer and Summers interesting input in the mix. They are all still fighting the demons, vampires and all evil from starting Doomsday / Apocaly...more

"Apocalypse Happens" is the third installment in the Phoenix Chronicals by Lori Handeland.
I started this series a while back and read the first two novels in a day and a half. I was hooked. The bad thing was that I had to wait almost a year for the third one to be released and by the time it was I was side tracked with other releases and forgot how much I wanted to know what happens next. Good thing I came across this book the other day, because only a few pages in, I remembered...more

Better than second, but not quite as enjoyable as the first. I figured this would be my farewell to The Phoenix Chronicles, but Ms. Handeland managed to real me back. While I hate the back-and-forth of hurtful things Liz & Jimmy do/say to each other, LOATHE Summer with a bloody passion (I know, she's *supposed* to be unlikeable), and find the frequent sex scenes/Liz's Mary Sue-ish tendency to gain powers via the magic hooh-ha tedious, I'm invested enough in the overall arc to purchase and read C...more

Book 3 of The Phoenix Chronicles (Any Given Doomsday and Doomsday Can Wait are Books 1 & 2) -- Despite Psychic/Shape-shifter/Vampire Elizabeth (Liz) Phoenix's efforts, somehow the Gates of Hell have been opened and the Apocalypse is at hand. Demons are flooding the earth and if Liz can't prevent Satan from taking control, humanity will end. Her newly acquired vampire abilities are her secret weapon against the demon hoards, but she still needs to acquire the Key of Solomon and the Book of Samy...more

I was a little disappointed with this book. It felt like the drama between the characters ate up most of the physical action. Not to mention a particular part of the book I was PO'd about. Without giving too much away, I was kinda rooting for him to get closer with Liz and now I think that's out of the question. Not to mention something else that happens shortly after that and now I'm not sure if he's coming back. I don't know where this series is going now, which is kinda interesting. I just th...more
Wow...all I can say is Lori Handeland's Phoenix series is definitely one of my top five! The series is getting better and better. :-) Quite the shock at the end though HOLY...but I do have some suspicion as to who's baby was left on her doorstep in the teaser for the next book. Oh and I am beginning to despise Summer more and more!!
Looking forward to the next one.... :-D

Liz is still settling into her role as leader of the light. With those few key trusted people around her, they are searching for a way to stop the events that have already happened.
In this book Liz has to face up to what being a leader is all about and make some very tough decisions, ones that will affect the fight they are all facing and will also affect her personally. She learns more about herself and also her heritage. It seems like everyone that she trusts around her also h...more

Very obviously a sequel.
It features demons and magic and rampantromance sex. It's ok, if you're into that sort of thing.

I'm reading Apocalypse Happens: Who and what will Liz Phoenix fight this time. She has to save the world then herself. Enjoy!
Series is alright but the author uses way to much sex as filler. Would probably not suggest this book to someone unless they are really bored.
I found myself having to look back at a summary of the last two books, but once I did that I was able to really sink into this book and enjoy it.
It's been a while since I read this series, so I need to have a re-read in order to give a proper review.

Excellent - the best one in the series yet - can't wait to read the next one to find out what happens next!
I give it a solid 4.3. I like this series very much. I have a soft spot for antagonistic relationships and I love Liz's sarcasm and her sense of responsibility. This book is pivotal to the series and I don't want to give too much away. IT IS A TEARJERKER. Normally, I don't want to be depressed when I read but this book was definetly worth it. I will say Sanducci needs to grow a set and get over himself-that's just my personal opinion. His hot and cold game with Liz makes me think of a bipolar ma...more
Fun, enjoyable read!
I am really enjoying this series. I can't wait for the next one to come out. It reminds me a little of Stephen King's The Stand to a degree. It is a great storyline and the characters are pretty original. I am enjoying the love triangle and the way Liz Phoenix's journey is going so far.
Was not sure if I liked this one - but will give her another chance
