I loved this novel and laughed out loud from the first page right through to the end, and I haven’t even had a baby. I do know many women who have in the last year though so I’ve heard all the stories and many of them are told in Wilde’s novel from the good, the bad and the ugly.

As far as mommylit goes, this one isn't bad. It's quite funny, for one thing, and I think most new stay-at-home moms would enjoy it quite a bit. However, at times it felt forced. How many times do we have to hear about how much she looooves her baby and dotes on him, and how are we supposed to reconcile this incessant complete and total 100% adoration of her baybeee with her frequent, spot-on commentary on how hard parenting an infant actually is? It didn't feel realistic to me.

The first sentence of this book reads, "I keep slipping up and saying postmortem when I mean postpartum." From this first sentence on, the reader is drawn into the life of Joy McGuire, first time mom, and her ups and downs of mommyhood. Along with being a stay at home mom, she has to deal with her workaholic husband, a controlling mother-in-law, feelings for her yoga instructor, an old college flame and her mother’s fourth marriage.

This book really surprised me. I picked it up because of the cover and how it seemed like a light and fluffy, fun read. After all the serious books I've been reading, this one just seemed like a break from the norm. A cute story about a mommy and a baby and the wacky situations that go along with being a new mother and dealing with a pain in the butt mother-in-law and all that. I thought it would be poorly written, and just kind of like a time filler while I took a break from more serious topics

Parts of this book were laugh outloud funny. It has got something for everyone: an overbearing, obsessive, babtism pushing mother in law. A first time mom struggling to find the beauty in childbirth. Breastfeeding. New mommyhood. A husband who has a very time demanding job and is never home. Poop talk. Boob talk. All the normal new mom stuff. A humorous take on the stresses, difficulties, and sometimes overwhelming changes to a marriage, life, and body caused by a new baby.

This was my latest beach read. I didn't finish it there and it's not so compelling that I'm dying to dig back in. Somehow, it's more embarrassing when I don't have waves crashing against my toes.
All in all, it's OK so far. The main character is a bit bumbling and eccentric and flighty. She's feeling stuck in the drudgery that is life as a middle class, suburban, stay-at-home mother (it's so rough, right?) I don't know why her experiences hit so soundly home. Thoughts?

enjoyed reading this book....I love "chick lit" fiction about new mommies....all in all it wasn't too "crude" for this Christian mommy! would be a good beach read! (got the book for a few bucks at a surplus store.....if anyone wants to borrow-don't even have to give it back!)

I read a book! While caring for an infant! That says a *lot* about the book. Funny, interesting and unabashedly honest about all things post-mortem. I mean, post-partem.

Honest opinion, this book wasn't my cup of tea. I'm not sure who the author's audience was. I never understood why her husband missed her delivery, though it was mentioned repeatedly. She didn't give enough detail about the spousal relationship and ended up concluding the book prematurely. BLAH! Just leave it on the shelf.

I'm not really one for mommy-lit but I knew Sam in a previous era of my life so I had to seek this one out. It's a quick easy read, silly but enjoyably wry and incredibly, refreshingly honest. On the down side, the whole I-have-a-crush-on-my-brown-skinned-yoga-teacher-because-he-has-dreads-and-is-"exotic" (no seriously, she really uses that word) subplot is fairly painful. On the up side, the fact that the narrator goes into graphic detail about her perineum before you even get to t

I loved this book! The cover alone was intriguing, but the story itself - and the voice of the main character, Joy - was witty, real, and hysterically funny. I found myself stealing moments of time so that I could read about Joy's struggle with her first year of parenthood. Highly recommended.

Funny, funny and funny! Starts off strong - kind of a weak ending - but a perfect read for a stay at home mom, new mom or mom in general!

This book has some crude language, some funny moments, and some very realistic depictions of life with a new baby and a husband who doesn't pull his weight.
