In March 2007, twenty-four hours after Mary Weiland dragged her husband Scott's pricey rock-star wardrobe onto their driveway and torched it, she was locked up in a mental hospital. Watching all this were her frightened extended family, a conflicted husband wrestling with demons of his own, and a tabloid industry gone gleeful at the "Bonfire in Toluca Lake!"

Stone Temple Pilots was my favorite band for the longest time. Scott Weiland, the lead singer, was really attractive and I loved the lyrics, hard guitars, and sound of the band. I saw Stone Temple Pilots in December of 1996. It was my first concert and it was after Weiland's run-ins with the law and various drugs. This book was written by Weiland's ex-wife, mother of his children, and (former) partner in crime.

Mary Forsberg was born to parents who married too young and procreated too young as we...more

Weiland's lively, vernacular memoir tells the sadly wasted but ultimately self-directed tale of her meteoric rise as a model from impoverished, half-Mexican roots to a precipitous plunge into drug addiction. Growing up in a broken Southern California home in the 1980s, where she lived mostly with her working Mexican mother in near poverty, the author, née Forsberg, found autonomy and financial independence early on in modeling; by age 14 she was a finalist for a Seventeen

This book, like most memoirs of the rich and famous, annoyed me for its name dropping and unrelatable lifestyle. But Mary Weiland also had a way of owning up to her worst moments and not making excuses. And I respect that. It takes courage to turn the mirror outward for the world to see, opening yourself up to reviews complaining about name dropping.

The bigger picture here is that she has a way of telling her personal tale of rags to riches and a life of addiction that followed her throughout bo...more

Wow- what a great book. I'm amazed by Mary Weiland's candor & strength and her honesty about her drug use and mental illness. I've always been a huge fan of Scott Weiland, Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver and was always sad to hear of yet another arrest or rehab stint of his or fight/separation with Mary but always thought "well, that's the life of a rock star and his artisitc demons" But Mary tells in detail how she always suffered with bi-polar disease ( never being properly diagnos...more

I've always been a pretty huge Stone Temple Pilots fan, and so I've always known that something was off with frontman Scott Weiland, between the addictions and dressing in drag, and rifts with STP and then with Velvet Revolver, but it was fascinating to read this book by his wife. Scott and Mary both struggle with bipolar disorder, and as if that wasn't enough strain on a relationship, they've both also struggled for years and years with drug and alcohol addictions. The story of their relationsh...more

In "Fall to Pieces: A Memoir of Drugs, Rock 'n' Roll, and Mental Illness," Mary Forsberg Weiland's account of her rollercoaster ride with drugs, rock `n' roll, and mental illness, she doesn't mince words. What comes through loud and clear is the lonely voice of someone who has always felt like she didn't quite fit in.

We follow her through her adventures traveling with Scott Weiland's band, from one event to another; we stand back a bit, as the two of them brutalize each other in this journey thr...more

I randomly picked up this book at the library. I was intrigued as I'm a fan of Scott Weilands, STP, and Velvet Revolver. I didn't know much about Weiland's wife or family but it would have been hard to miss all of the legal issues that Weiland himself had been involved in within the past few years.

Mary's story is pretty sad. She grew up poor and dropped out of high school in order to pursue a lucrative modeling career, during which she fell in love with Scott. Both of them are heavy into drinki...more

such a guilty pleasure. i'm a big fan of the junkie memoir, especially one written by a hot rich model who married a rock star like scott weiland. there is some decent dirt in here and the author does sometimes come across as being somewhat genuine and she seems to mean well. she has kept clean for years and is going to school to become an addictions counselor. scott has supposedly been off junk for years but still drinks so keep him on your dead pool. as a fan of music, obviously i never liked...more

Fall to Pieces by Mary Forsberg Weiland, a Kindle book I began reading on August 27th. Another autobio I picked out of pure curiosity - oddly enough, Mary chose to go to same exact modeling school (Barbizon in San Diego) as an earlier autobio author I had read, Tera Patrick. Well, la-de-friggin'-dah.

What first began as a selfish, pity-party, all-about-me-and-my-issues book turned into a bumper-car, harsh truth, sky highs and bitter lows confession about addiction and rehabilitation. Mary and Sco...more

I found this memoir difficult to get through. I heard the voice of a victim, not a survivor. Instead of self-reflection, it felt like an account of events, mostly focusing on how Scott screwed up.

She never gave many details about what she later refers to as her being "crazy", or how the virtual end to her modeling career transpired. In fact, I think depth is what was most lacking.

She spoke several times her great sense of humor about the macabre, she should have utilized it in the memoir.

I saw...more

Mary tells the story of her enmeshed life with Scott Weiland of STP. Beginning with her childhood and quickly moving into an emancipated teenage modeling career, it's easy to see how she ended up becoming an addict. In addition to her heavy drug abuse, however, was her underlying mental instability of undiagnosed bipolarism. She's very frank and honest about her experiences and the level to which she and Scott enabled each other through a very dependent love. She writes in a straightforward way,...more

This is another rock star life style/addiction memoir, this time from the wife of Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland.

It's well written and interesting throughout and the author does an admirable job of illustrating her mindset through the drug use and the undiagnosed bipolar disorder. But I can't help but feel that this is simply another celebrity tell all and to be honest I'm getting kind of tired of them. Now that is a reflection of me not the book. The book is actually quite good and...more

Mary ended up in a mental institution after throwing her husbands clothes out and setting them on fire. She suffered from depression and would lay in bed for days. A lot of the time, she didn't even know why she was reacting a certain way. Addiction and depression seem to go hand in hand, so Mary was battling both.

It's an absorbing read that hits close to home for me. I too suffer from depression and it is a very difficult illness to live with. I know how brave Mary must be to pour out her life...more

Mary Forsberg is an incredibly strong woman and brilliant writer. Everyone interested in addiction should read this book immediately. She is so brave to detail the trials and tribulations of both her drug addiction and her relationship with Scott Weiland and also her struggles, both past and present, with being bipolar. Her story may encourage people diagnosed with depression but not responding to treatment to open more about their struggles with their own physicians, potentially saving years of...more

Fall to Pieces is a fascinating, yet sad memoir about Mary Weiland's struggle with addiction. Weiland is the ex-wife of Scott Weiland, lead singer of the band Stone Temple Pilots. Both she and Scott struggled throughtout their entire relationship with drug and alcohol addiction. With the births of their children Mary was able to finally find the motivation to stay sober, but Scott still continues to struggle with his demons - hence their divorce. Weiland is very open about her many mistakes, but...more

I started this book late Thursday evening, only reading the first few chapter. Today I picked it up this morning and didn't stop until I was done. I couldn't put it down. Mary's story of her fight with addiction and ultimate revelation of her bi-polar disorder was so brutally honest, it was at some times upsetting to read. Her relationship with ex husband (Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver frontman, Scott Weiland) was a long, tumultuous one that when it was good was REALLY good and when it...more

A book to read in paperback, might be a good airplane book in that it's fairly captivating.

Weiland takes readers through her struggles with self-medicating her bi-polar disease, with street drugs, and her trauma trying to make a doomed relationship work, against many signs she should have given it up years ago.

I heard Weiland speak and had no idea who her rocker husband was at the time.

This is the story of her parents who married too young and didn't get along, an unstable childhood with too...more

A very good read about a failed rock n roll marriage. This is the typical Rock Star Wife story: getting caught up with the rock n roll lifestyle with her husband (Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots), addiction & getting pregnant and raising the kids by herself most of the time while hubby who refuses to stay sober and always on the road or in the studio. This book is very well written about her life as a kid, model, wife & mother. It is a Love Story of a girl starting out as a teenage...more

I should begin this review by stating that I am not a Stone Temple Pilots fan. However, I love reading model memoirs, rock n' roll memoirs, and mental illness memoirs, so this book hit all three areas. Mary Forsberg claims she was a hugely successful model in the 1990s, but I've never heard of her and there is virtually no on-line record of her modeling career (or mug shots, for that matter)....anyway, she name drops (Charlize Theron, Anthony Kiedis, Ashley Hamilton, Balthazar Getty, and Scott W...more

Not a book I had planned to read, and not really a person I was particularly interested in learning about. It was a new featured book on the library display shelf, and seemed like a guilty pleasure type memoir. (Model turned junkie married to rock star story). I am surprised at the high rankings for this book on Goodreads, honestly. I just didn't find it that interesting, despite all the drama of Mary's life (modeling career, tour experiences of dating a rock star, escalating drug addiction, mul...more

This book was very well-written, very intelligent. It was a little distanced from the actual addiction, which is what I had been expecting going into it. Instead, Weiland uses her knowledge of addictions and rehab to put an optimistic spin on her story. She never once bashed her ex-husband, Scott Weiland, which was refreshing since many books by ex-wives are negative. While it wasn't the rock bio I was expecting, it was a very smart and interesting book.

Great book, memoirs don't always interest me but this one is so much about the pain of mental illness and the struggle to understand and over come it is great.
It is a great story of famous people who have to deal with the money after growing up poor and from broken homes..............enjoyed emensley.
This book is written with such feeling and passion and empathy and compassion.

The only disappointment I had from this book was purely from my own expectations. Being married to Scott Weiland, I expected a bit of artistry and depth to her writing. It was more conversational - like chatting with one of your girlfriends. Would have liked more progression in her stories as well. Overall it was entertaining, but don't read it if, like me, your only reason for doing so is Scott Weiland. Wait for his book to come out in November '10.

This was pretty entertaining, actually...lots of interesting name-dropping and some funny moments (I liked the part where Scott Weiland hada masseuse come into the room where his wife was giving birth to give him a massage.) I thought it was worth the read. I could have done without the soapbox-y stuff at the end, but I understand why it was there.

This book is incredibly honest and insightful. Not only is it about drug addiction but it is about Love addiction. What interested me most was the understanding it gave me into the mind and inner workings of how powerful drug addiction is. It gave me a better understanding of my own family members struggles with addition and mental illness.

As an STP fan I loved getting the behind the scene stories about the evolution and downfall of the band and Scott Weiland. I was inpressed by Mary's writing and candor. The way she explained the medical side of her mental illness and personal experince of it was really interesting and gave me a better understanding of it.
I would definitely recommend this book.

A standard addiction story, but the refreshing thing about this book is that instead of being a 'tell all' under the guise of a memoir, it actually focuses on the author's battle with drugs.

I enjoyed it, but I'm an STP/Velvet Revolver fan. It's probably not going to be that interesting to the folks who aren't.

Such a wonderful book. Mary Weiland, ex-wife of rocker Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver) put me through every emotion imaginable. I was happy, sad, misty-eyed, and mad. Those emotions that I experienced are what made this such an amazing, page turning book. I literally could not put it down. I was sad when I finished it.

What happens when two beautiful people with too much money and bipolar disorder fall in love and continue to hope they will beat their demons. Written by supermodel Mary Forsberg Weiland who at age 16 fell in love with and eventually married Stone Temple Pilots front man, Scott Weiland. Quite a roller coaster ride.
