Tough. Taciturn. And a fool for letting her go...

A Wild Ride story.

Wyoming rancher Quinn McKay thought he'd only have to bide time until his levelheaded wife came to her senses and called a halt to this "trial separation." He never believed the marital rough patch would drag on for a coon's age.

Libby McKay knew when she married the gruff, laid-back cowboy that he wasn't pr...more

Strong, Silent Type is a short story about Quinn and Libby McKay, whose marriage is falling apart. I read it out of order, so I don’t know how much of the build up to the deterioration of their relationship I might have missed, but it didn’t feel as if I had missed much, if anything, at all. Reading this story out of order, if you choose to do so, shouldn't be a problem.

Quinn is one of those guys that drive us women crazy. He’s an intense man, but keeps his thoughts and emotions bottled up insid...more

I won a giveaway contest at Smexybooks and got this great freebie from Lorelei James...huge thanks to Mandi and Lorelei. Yippee! I adored the premise for this erotic story. A couple who has been together for 14 years has lost the spark in their marriage. I really like reading about older couples instead of young, horny characters all the time...especially in erotica. There is something very sexy about mature characters who have some life experience, and it makes for a more emotionally intense st...more

Quinn and Libby McKay, high school sweethearts and married for years have hit a rough spot. They've become staid in their lives, not willing to make changes as they've gotten older, and seriously taking each other for granted.

Libby decides to be pro-active. She begins to make herself happy. She loses weight and starts dressing differently. Thinking that it will force the two of them to realize what they are doing to each other, she kicks him out...more

God damn i loved this one too!! Short and Sweet my kinda book!! and the best ending!! Loved loved loved Quinn and Libby!!

I liked the story of second chances and how both characters matured after looking back. Instead of drifting apart, Libby and Quinn's relationship was strengthened after they both realized their mistakes, and I liked how Quinn tried hard to speak up about his feelings and where they both went wrong. With a Lorelei James story, the hot, spontaneous, raunchy sex is just icing on the cake.

Though this is fiction, Ms James was able to tell a story of a long-time married couple's relationship and how s...more

4 stars for this little doozy.
I'm not quite sure why they called this a short story, because I will tell you that nothing about this read was short or condensed in any way. The fact that these characters were married already, allowed the read to be shortened in length only and cut out the initial courtship, BUT I can only say that there's no denying this was a Rough Rider child and that this read was good, smokin' hot and was an important part of the Rough Riders series as a whole, that should n...more

This was truly the sweetest story. I think I really related to this one more than any, thus far. My husband is not a great communicator and is so much like Quinn. I cheered for this couple and really felt their journey. Another home run, Lorelei!

Quinn and Libby McKay's marriage is stuck in a bad place and they have been separated for 3 months. Libby kicked Quinn out. The trouble starts with their fruitless attempts to have a baby. After that it goes downhill until Quinn decides to fight for his wife and their love. Quinn wants her back and his brother advises him to woo her. It's funny how the things Libby wants from Quinn: to stake his claim on her, fight for her, reconciliation, are exactly what Quinn wants too, but they f...more

4.5 Stars. This is pretty much the perfect short-and-sexy novella, an incredibly hard sub-genre to do well. Libby and Quinn have been together for 14 years, and there's no doubting their love for each other. This is important because one of the big problems with the short form is believing that characters can really reach HEA in less than 100 pages and in just a few days. But, since Quinn and Libby have such a rich backstory, their reconciliation makes perfect sense, and their past gives everyth...more

Married couple gets back together -- heartfelt story

Quinn and Libby McKay were together a lot of years before they separated. Although they still loved each other, they weren't communicating well and drifted apart. For years, they had tried to get pregnant with no luck. Sex was scheduled by fertility charts and the romance had worn off. After losing her confidence as a woman due to the fertility problems, Libby lost weight, bought some new sexy clothes and got a new stylish haircut. When her hus...more

Just when I thought I had read all of the current books in the Rough Riders series, I stumbled upon this gem. Strong, Silent Type is Quinn's story. While he is a McKay, he is cousin to the brothers we have been reading about. Because he is already married, he didn't get a book of his own. This novella tells the story of Quinn and his wife, Libby, during a rocky patch in their marriage.

The reason I loved this story so much is because I identified so well with the feelings both Quinn and Libby we...more

Not my favorite of the Rough Riders series, although I am really glad I got it and read it as I was really wondering just what WAS up with Quinn and Libby from all the other ones. Really excellent use of the 81 pages...and the sex was extremely hot and passionate as it is with all of the other RR books. Very sweet story of reconciliation and separated spouses getting back together. Now, here's what I didn't like about it...and why it got three stars when every other RR I have read so far has got...more

Lorelei James' Rough Riders series is such a treat to read. It has that small town, close family feel while still delivering sexy, emotional relationships.

Strong, Silent Type is about an established couple, Quinn and Libby McKay. They grew up together and fell in love in their teens. It's 14 years later and they've been married for 9, but Quinn and Libby have come to a low point in their marriage. They've been going through some rough times and have drifted apart. Libby decides to shake things u...more

For some reason I am a sucker for these types of stories. Ones where it seems the marriage is done and each person can't be bothered to do anything to figure out just why it started to die in the first place. So much of the times things can't be pin pointed to one big event, just lots of little ones that happen along the way where 2 people start to take each other for granted and can't say what is on their minds. This is exactly what Libby and Quinn are going through.

I think Libby kicking him o...more

A short story about Quinn & Libby in the RR series... It was good to finally get their story since you hear about them but never really know what was happening with them. I have said it before and I'll say it again...I can never get enough of these McKay men! Thank you LJ a million times over!

I was pleasantly surprised by Strong, Silent Type. The characters are much more tame and vanilla in the beginning of the story and work themselves up into a feverpitch in a hurry.

Quinn McKay and his wife Libby are currently seperated. Quinn is being an asshat and Libby has turned herself into procreation machine. Communication breakdown has occured. Quinn is just waiting for his wife to come around because he honestly thinks he hasn't done anything wrong. Idiot man. While he is "waiting", Libby...more

I'm assigning a country song to each of these Lorelei James smutty cowboy romances.

This one is Merle Haggard's "If We're Not Back In Love By Monday." It's a marriage reconciliation story.

My favorite bit, after describing the heroine's makeover and the hero's bafflement by it:

At that point he'd begun to worry, wondering if she'd met a man she was trying to impress.

When Libby asked him how he liked the "new" her, Quinn replied honestly: He'd liked the old her just fine.

A day later he was living i

Great short story about Quinn and Libby, a husband and wife of 15 years who are on the verge of divorce. They've seemingly lost their connection despite their enduring love for one another. Life and stress (and an inability to conceive) get in the way. It takes a weekend of discovery to bring them back to who they fell in love with. This was such an uplifting HEA. I loved it! BTW, there's no crazy menage, etc in this one. Just the very real scenario of two people coming together written in a ver...more

I think this is a great short story mainly because you have already seen glimpses of these characters in the earlier books. You already know that the couple is having problems and have probably wondered what is happening with them. I think that this story will probably strike and cord with a lot of married couples. I really loved the way Ms. James worked out the problems that Quinn and Libby were facing. While this is a short story I didn't feel short changed at all. I loved this story as much a...more

I’m disappointed because this couple was only maintained passing in a couple of books and now they only get a novella to solve their problems. This was not enough for me and I want more form Quinn and Libby.

She’s sweet and a great housewife, but is unhappy with her marriage and feels like a failure because she can’t get pregnant, so the relationship is hanging by a breath. I liked Quinn but he needed to be more upfront with his feelings and desires...more

It’s going to be a sad day when Ms. James decides to end this series. She has a huge host of die-hard fans for her McKay/West series. Her characters are always so engaging, the stories always show the characters’ growth and always have this family show love and support for one another no matter what, and love scenes are some of the hottest and most sizzling to be had. Oh, and the cowboys are a huge plus too. Ms. James is one of the best at making those men walk the walk, talk the talk, and jump...more

Ever since I read Tied Up, Tied Down, I've wondered what happened with Libby and Quinn McKay. Back then, they were having major issues, fighting all the time, and I remember Libby being really upset and bitter about the fact that she couldn't get pregnant when she was trying so hard. Now, marriages go through rough patches all the time and there are fights, but I was still worried about Libby and Quinn, even if we didn't really know too much about them.

Getting to see them work out their relation...more

I immediately thought of this book when I played my Sunday in the Country playlist at work yesterday and thought of Quinn and Libby's story. The song I was listening to is "Do I" by Luke Bryan. Can a long married couple rekindle their passion after months of separation? I think so. Quinn finds his way back to Libby and Libby realizes things about her relationship with Quinn for both of them to get back together. They both mean the world to each other but just forgot how to say it to one another.

What happens after the ever-after? Well, you get that glimpse here with Quinn and Libby - still madly in love with each other but unable to communicate! I loved this story, these two are grew up and in love with each other and then took for granted the other knew everything about them and what they were thinking. To explore with them as they get to know what has been going on with each other while they weren't really connecting is absolutely endearing and lets us see why they were perfect togeth...more

I enjoy the Rough Riders Series and this book is no different. I liked how this couple got to a point where they were no longer happy with the way they were going but that they were very much still in love with other. They try to get to the heart of the problems that they have swept under the rug for some time and find out how to break down the barriers they built up and rediscover their feelings with each other with a new sense of freedom.

4.5stars -- What Do You Mean I'm Not Mrs. McKay?

The worst part of the Rough Rider series is that every story whether it is a full novel or a brief novella such as this one. It has you wondering if it is your favorite of your series. This is a peek inside Quinn & Libby McKay’s marriage as they view and work to resolve their issues differently. One area they definitely find their way back to is that old fashioned male to female communication with their bodies. The sex is hot and the issues rea...more

This was a short, hot, sweet read. I like that this was about a married couple that needed to find a way to re-connect and bring the spark back into their marriage. Oh the spark came back alright, and these two almost went up in flames. Quinn and Libby connected in every way imaginable, and it was SMOKIN HOT! This is another great addition to the Rough Riders series.

What a great read! We finally see Quinn and Libby McKay, the reasons behind their dysfunctional marriage and their eventual and beautiful reconciliation and renewal of their love.

Libby wanted children, she was determined to have them at any cost, even if it meant her husband. Quinn wanted to give her what she wanted, but he didn't want to lose himself or them in the process.

A run of bad luck, Quinn's interfering mother and several scorching love scenes and resolutions to their marital and person...more
