There were some pretty big hurdles to get over in this book. First off, Caleb pretty much calls Willow a whore ("fancy lady") throughout the first half of the book. So, that grates. Then, there's the whole dichotomy of Caleb wanting revenge on Reno for seducing and abandoning his virgin sister, while Caleb himself is...seducing and planning to abandon Reno's virgin sister. You can argue the points that he doesn't think she's a virgin, he doesn't know she's his sister (she says she's Re More...

Let's talk Elizabeth Lowell Old West romance!

Willow Moran is heading west in search of her missing brother Matt, last heard from on his way to a gold mine--and she gets her Asshole Repellent on by telling everybody that her brother is actually her "husband", which is all very well and good until she hires gunfighter Caleb Black to escort her into the wild territory where her brother's rumored to be. See, Caleb's in a mood for vengeance, 'cause he thinks Matt "Reno" More...

A book I read and carried around with me until a ruthless purge of my romance novels. Elizabeth Lowell remains one of my favorite authors but I definitely like her older stuff better. This is one of the good ones. First in the "Only" series, it introduces us to the Moran family. Willow was from a comfortable Northern family but the Civil War left her family plantations ravaged. Her five brothers had already left before the war started so she's trying to track down the only one whose lo More...

I just finished rereading this about 15 years after I read it before. I remembered it as one of my favorites, in fact one of a few books that survived a big purge of books. (Big Mistake!) The reread lived up to my memories of the book I am happy to say. The hero, Caleb Black, was an "old testament type of man" out to avenged his sister's death. Willow, the heroine, was an innocent looking for her brother while posing as his wife. Set in the Rocky Mountains after the Civil War with bea More...

In the wake of the Civil War, Willow Moran hires Caleb Black to cross the Colorado Rockies in search of her brother. For her own protection, Willow tells Caleb that she is searching for her husband. Caleb accepts the mission because he has his own agenda for wanting to find Willow's 'husband' - revenge. Much adventure and reluctant passion ensues.

This is the second book of Lowell's I've read where the initial writing was awkward and unpromising. It's also the second one I've read More...

Elizabeth Lowell is an all time favorite with me, I also collect some of her work. I love her older work and the "only" series was one of my favorites of her older works. Ms. Lowell can do contemporary, historical and paranormall and she is exceptional in all of them.
Only His, I picked out because it was one I re-read the most and it is still and all time favorite. Ms. Lowell's newer works are fabulous, and you just cannot go wrong buying an Elizabeth Lowell book for a GREAT

I love 'adventure in the wilderness' theme. Many reviewer said that Caleb Black is fierce/ruthless Hero, but I don't see it. Actually I expecting him to be more ruthless so the story will be more romantic. After first love-scene I feel the story degrading. Not too fierce anymore. But still a great keeper.

Audio Book #3
I guess I didn't realzie this when I picked it up at the library, but it takes place right after the civil war. It was pretty decent. As Ron and I seem to always do after listening to audio books - several of the "finer" dialogue points keep coming up in conversation.

A heartwarming Old West romance set in the Colorado mountians. It is a road romance, where the hero and heroine spend most of their time together traveling the wilderness and keeping ahead of outlaws stalking them for the prize Arabian horses that Willow is moving from her family's West Virginia farm, ravaged by the civil war, to her brother's camp in the mountians. The relationship that developes between Caleb and Willow is steamy, their first kiss alone is hotter than the average sex scene in More...

The book was interesting, kept my attention, and was very steamy. Not very "deep" as story lines go, but it was very entertaining and reading it brightened my day.

there wasn't enough action in this story, it was the same for 80% of the book, hero and heroine traveling together. It was boring for the most part

Pretty good book, good hero and heroine. Big, gigantic, insurmountable obstacles.

I don't know how these people made it to the end of the book alive.

I really enjoyed this book. The descriptions of the mountains and horses were done well. She really painted a picture of the travel over the Rocky Mountains. I'm glad I am not a woman living in the old west.
I read Only Mine first and reading this gave me much more background for it. I am now going back and reading Only Mine with a new perspective.

I know this gets a bad rap because of the 'cruel' hero but I enjoy the uber Alpha hero. Since this does take place in the 19th Century American West one can't expect 21st Century mores or sensibilities. Love this one, its a keeper!

If you like to read romance, this book is definitely worth your while. I first read it eons ago and have reread it too many times to count. It's a western, so it's got a juicy, saddle riding, gunslinging aspect to it that made me fall in love with the Marlboro man when I was a teenager. It's got 3 sequels (all the good stories do), but I'd say the last in the series titled "Only Love" was the second best.

When you're in the mood for a good, steamy, old-fashioned bodice-ripping romance, you can't beat Elizabeth Lowell. Sometimes her books have a mystery edge to them; this one did not. I thought some of the plot devices she used were a little contrived, but that didn't stop me from staying up until 2 in the morning to finish it.

This was just okay for me. I'm not sure if I like the frontier setting, it just may not be for me.

The h/h were okay the steam good but overall a forgettable book.

I'm going with 3 stars for the fact that it was not bad just not for me.

I liked this series. This one was about Willow and Caleb Black. She hired him to find her brother Reno. The setting is the San Juans in Colorado.
