In his own inimitable style, Spinrad examines in four stunning novellas one of his most compelling obsessions--the possible "futures" of America. Written with the biting wit and penetrating insight that are his trademarks, this new collection is exciting and essential reading.

Shelves: sci-fi
I'm not the best at writing reviews, but since no one else has for this book, I feel I must.

First of all, it a collection of 4 novellas about different futures that could exist for America. America affected by overpopulation, or environmental destruction, or strong censorship. One is a fairly normal America though.

The novellas are:
Street Meat
The Lost Continent
World War Last
La Vie Continue

Only one of them deserves 5 stars in my opinion (World War Last) and the rest are either 3 or 4 stars.

Novellas arent my piece of cakes, but i actually liked these. The first one,"Meat street" felt right, but was a bit too was a short, all right,so maybe that was the issue for me.
The second and third ones were the ones that sealed the deal for me.Lost country?Atomic and radiation poisoning?Dystopic worlds?GIMME GIMME MORE!
The last one was actually the cherry on top.It was a novella and,the plot was actually intriguing enough to make me "twirl" a couple of time in my seat.

Picked this up on a whim; took forever to read it; loved every second when I finally got around to it. Appropriately enough, have a desperate desire to see the last novella ("La Vie Continue") made into a movie. Has that been made into a movie? Because that movie would be amazing.

O colectie de povestiri despre viitorul Americii. Unele triste, altele vesele, cele mai multe foarte reusite. Preferata mea ramane cea in care soarta lumii sta in mainile unei momai rusesti si a unui obsedat sexual american. Ambii presedinti de stat. E chiar SF asta?

Street meat alone is Worth reading, three great novels and one weird one I am not sure what to think of. Spindrad is fantastic and underrated in my opinion.
