The chief selling point of ‘Doctor Proctor’s Fart Powder’ is blatantly obvious. You would be hard pressed to find a child who didn’t think flatulence funny. And this isn’t normal gas. We’re talking about explosive power that makes the earwax press into your head while your eyes press out of it. Even more appealing, it’s odorless.

The good doctor, the eccentric of his sedate neighborhood, lives on the Oslo fjord, tinkering on new inventions that, like a powder intended to prevent h More...

Typically when I see a kids' book with words such as "fart" in the title I don't give them a second glance. However, this book is written by one of my favourite thriller authors and the simple fact that he had written a children's a book was enough to make me *have* to read the book, never mind what it was called or what it was about.

Surprisingly, though the book is about an invention of farting powder, there is not a great deal of "toilet humour" to be found. Perha More...

When Lisa’s best friend moves from Norway across the world, she prepares herself for an unpleasant school year. Of course, that’s before Nilly, the smallest red-headed boy she’s ever seen, moves in next door. Nilly, a courageous, outspoken boy, quickly befriends both Lisa and Doctor Proctor, a pleasantly mad scientist who lives on the other side of Nilly’s new house. Doctor Proctor, a frustrated inventor who never seems to invent anything quite useful enoug More...

In a country called Norway, young Lisa is mourning the loss of her best friend (she moved to another town), but she is in luck: a clever, interesting boy named Nilly has moved in. Nilly may be a little strange, but he and Lisa click right away, especially when they join forces with the nutty Doctor Procter, who has developed an amazing powder to create the world's biggest and best farts, sure to bring the kids in. Enemies are many, but the three musketeers are determined to prevail!

Farts are funny. This is a scientific fact. Personally I simply don't know if I could be friends and associate myself with anyone who didn't think farts were funny.

Perhaps this is childish...but then again for 99.9% of children (and those of us WITH children know this starts at the youngest of ages--when they become aware of the sound of farts even!) farts are even funnier. I would dare say even that farts beat out anything else on the juvenile funny scale.

So it's no su More...

With a title like that you would think this book was downright dumb, but you'd be wrong. Even though every chapter talks about farts and farting at least ten times, the story is clever and engaging enough to keep you interested all the way to the end.

Nilly is a very tiny little red headed boy who moves to a small town in Norway where things get out of hand the second he moves in. Although small in stature Nilly makes up for it with his big heart and his quick wit. He knows all the a More...

If you know me, you know that I've always wanted to write a children's book. So, I figured that I would read what's out there for kids to get a feel for the competition. This book is cute, and fun. I can totally see either a boy or a girl reading this and enjoying the adventure.

I can't wait to finish Doctor Proctor's Fart Powder: Bubble In The Bathtub, and read Doctor Proctor's Fart Powder: Who Cut The Cheese?

I am never going to finish this one...I checked it out because the title intrigued me, and the author has written several adult novels, so I thought it might be good. wrong. Very choppy; not much depth to the characters. I understand it's a kid's book...it most reminded me of the Stephen Hawking foray into child lit. Bloody awful.

The title kind of says it all. Dr. Proctor invents a 'fart powder' and two neighbor children help him market it to their friends. The neighborhood bullies g More...

When a friend told me about this book, and I saw the title, I had to read it. A book called Doctor Proctor's Fart Powder? A book with that title has to be entertaining. And, well, it was. It is a silly book for children about 2 kids, a slightly loony professor, 2 bullies to overcome, and some fart powder. I think was cracked me up most of all was how often farting was mentioned in the book. Overall, it was a fun little book.

This is a hilariously silly, yet simple read about a subject (farts, of course) that is inherently funny, and is made even funnier by adding a plot that includes a crazy inventor, helpful kids, and even a dash of "bad guys." I would have liked the illustrations to be a bit more detailed instead of looking like a kid drew them, but I suppose the use of basic drawn lines adds to the overall quirkiness of the read.

Tolle, schräge figuren und wunderbare illustrationen in dem buch!!!! schon allein wegen den illustartionen lohnt es sich dieses buch in die hand zu nehmen.

Title: Doctor Proctor's Fart Powder
Author: Jo Nesbø
Series: Doctor Proctor's Fart Powder
Published: 2007 (Norway); 2010 (US)

I picked up this book at work and loved it a lot! While, yes, it's about farting and childish humour it's really smartly written and quite engaging. I definitely recommend it to readers of all ages!

I read this out loud to my 8-year-old. The 11-year-old heard enough that he is reading it next.

I was going to give it 3 stars, but they demand 4. So 4 it is.

The side story of Attila, Anna Conda, and the fat little boy is quite amusing, but might bother some young kids--and others might not get it at all.

I would say definitely for 8 and up, though younger kids would enjoy the potty humor

A girl, her very small new neighbor, and a nutty inventor band together to create, test and sell a powder that has unusually powerful properties!
Daniel told me I just HAD to read this one... but I think it's better suited for young boys than their mothers :)

Funny and engaging for the middle-grade booger/fart set, without being demeaning or truly gross-out disgusting--a remarkable feat in my opinion! The set is a must-have for my next k-5 library book order. It was, incidentally, recommended to me by a student.

This book is not what you think. It really is about time travel but with immature humor, too. The main characters travel to different historical time periods to change something but end up causing disasters.

The title really says it all - this a pretty silly book for kids. What sets it apart from being just another silly book for kids is the intelligence behind all the goofiness. Nesbo, like Roddy Doyle in his Giggler stories, exposes the tricks of storytelling, and makes fun of them even while constructing a ripping yarn. The relatively intricate (and unapologetically implausible) plot where quite a few sub-plots and themes all get neatly resolved, is wonderful.
