It's hard not to gush, but I just loved this fantastic book, and the whole series so far. I never realized before what a terrific story-teller Susan Mallery is, even though I've read quite a few of her books. This one was my favorite of the still running series (Lone Star Sisters), and I'm wondering if she'll be able to top it. Her characters are so expertly drawn, you feel like you've known them all your life. The pace was fast, fast, fast...I had a hard time finding a place to stop when I need ...more

3.5 stars. An explosion cost Izzy Titan most of her eyesight and almost all of her interest in life. When she refuses to even consider the surgery that would almost certainly restore her sight, her desperate sisters hire Nick Hollister to drag her off to his ranch. Through tough love from Nick and his staff, Izzy begins to deal with her situation, face her fears about the surgery, and fall in love. But she has no idea that Nick’s hire was no accident -- his oldest, closest friend is Garth, the m ...more

I definitely liked this one better than the 2nd book in the series, but I also thought it could have been a lot stronger. There was an area or two where I thought the story was a little weak. Aside from that, fairly decent book. It was about on the same level as the first book, for me.

Series Note: this is the second book in Susan Mallery's Lone Star Sisters series. These books should be read in order because they are heavily intertwined.

Summary:
Izzy Titan is the wild and reckless

This one was my favorite of the series so far. I was surprised by that as I didn't really love Izzy in either of the first two books. I was a bit worried because she does start out whiny and full of self pity but it hadn't been that long since the explosion and I've certainly wallowed in self pity for a lot less than being blinded so I cut her a break. I think that Aaron as the FGF (fabulous gay friend) helped bring out a lot of the positives about Izzy, like her humor and caring side. That even ...more

Probably my favorite of the series so far, which is surprising because I haven't loved Izzy in the previous books and didn't much care for the preview we got in the last book. Nick's story is probably a bit over the top but Mallery focused on just the parts that explained how he was relating to Izzy and everyone else so that helped. Plus, I get the sense that part of the story was more about setting the stage for the next book than it was giving Nick an outrageous backstory. Either way the book ...more

"Straight From the Hip" is the third book in the Lone Star Sisters series by Susan Mallery. This is Izzy's story. Although I really liked this book, I didn't like it as much as the first two, so I rated it a little lower. It follows the story of the Titan Sisters and the half brother who is trying to destroy them. This is the story of Izzy's rehabilitation from the explosion she went through in book #2. Her hero, Nick, like all Susan Mallery's heroes is sexy, strong, yet flawed and vulnerable. A ...more

Isadora (Izzy) Titan suffered 70% blindness from an oil rig explosion leaving her feeling sorry for herself. Being blind changed her from the once fiery, quick-tempered, independent woman to a docile, dependent woman. Her sisters, Skye and Lexi turned to Nick Hollister and his survival training retreat to prepare Izzy for her new way of life if she continued to refuse to have the surgery that would return 90% of her vision. Izzy was fearful of the 10% chance of total blindness, no amount of pers ...more

N ...more

This has been a great series so far. I was anxious to get to this installment because I've been attracted to Izzy Titan since the beginning of the series, and I was not disappointed. We pick up the story after her accident when she is brought to a ranch to heal and to relearn how to live. There (of course) she becomes attracted to Nick, the ranch owner, who has lots of secrets and issues of his own. There's a surprise twist connecting a prominent person in previous books to Nick, allowing us to ...more

Aaron you are the bestttt :D Bayıldım, bayıldım sana.

Fabulous! And I absolutely loved Aaron. Mallery really did a great job with an intense storyline and extremely likable characters. I'm really looking forward to seeing how she redeems Grant.

Very much a strong 3.75 - close to 4 stars. Easy to read and a story that hung together well. Was good (and would be a good beach read) :)

Ben kitab ...more

The storylines are finally coming to a end. The conclusion from all the Garth drama is coming to a crest. This is the third book in the Lone Star Sisters series by Susan Mallery. This was Izzys story and a continuance from the previous two. Izzys story follows along with her accident in the last book. She has to find strength she didn't know she had, we get introduced to beautiful new characters, while catching up with old ones. It's a truly inspiring story. One of the best.

After finishing the second book in the series, Lip Service, I decided to move right on to the third of the Titan sisters books, Straight from the Hip. Straight from the Hip picks up right where Lip Service ended with Izzy. She had been in an explosion on an oil rig and was left blind.

Lexi and Skye are concerned about Izzy not "living" her life, so they arrange for her to go to a ranch with Nick Hollister who owns and runs a ranch for corporate retreats and troubled kids (both are not

Susan Mallery has another rock solid success with Straight from the Hip (SFTH), the third book in the Lone Star Sisters series, and the story of Izzy Titan and Nick Hollister. As fans of the series are aware, at the end of Lip Service, Book 2, Izzy had been in a explosion on an offshore oil rig that left her with only thirty percent of her vision. At the beginning of SFTH, after refusing to leave her room from over a month, Izzy's sisters, Lexi and Skye Titan, arrange to have Izzy kidnapped by N ...more

Izzy is a spitfire, and this one didn't disappoint. Nick was a great guy. I totally understood that he couldn't just automatically believe what the Titan sisters said about Garth (though admittedly, as far as he knew, they wouldn't know about the connection). But I loved how he stood up to Garth once he found out the truth AND realized Garth had used him as well.

And wow, Garth does have a conscience! At first, I was really wondering because it appeared he'd lost his soul somewhere along the way

I'd really give this book 4.5 stars! But sadly Goodreads don't do half rating's so I've gone for 4 stars.

I really fell in love with Izzy in this book. In the previous two books I felt she was a very spoilt younger sibling who was used to getting her own way and felt that she needed to do some much growning up and she really did that in Straight from the Hip.

I really felt for Izzy when she lost her sight and could only see blurry images and how she overcame her fears and tried to live her life.

STRIAGHT FROM THE HIP was another great book. I am a sure Susan Mallery fan now! I can’t wait to read more of her books.

Overall, STRAIGHT FROM THE HIP was more about finding and forgiving yourself than it was about romance. Now, I know not all the books can start off like LIP SERVICE with sex in the first chapter, but Nick Hollister and Izzy Titan, they both had a lot of soul searching to do.

The sisters decided to send Izzy to Nick and his ranch where he specializes on bri

I knew Izzy would be tough, and at the beginning she reminded me of Mitch in the last book. I wasn't sure that she'd have to hit rock bottom like he did, but I knew it would be a struggle and things wouldn't go smoothly. While I thought some of her reactions were extreme I knew that eventually she would get over it.

Nick was a tough nut to crack. I couldn't figure out what had happened to him, and some of his behavior made me almost think he was ex-military. Izzy and Nick were perfect for one an
