This romantic read was extremely hard to put down. The plot flowed nicely from moment to moment that I managed to finish it easily within a day due to it's short chapters which just had me thinking 'okay, just one more' constantly.

I love the flirty, cheesy but romantic way Jane has wrote all the books of hers I have read so far and the embarrasing moments which brings the story back to reality instead of it being some sort of fairytale. I adored all the characters and how they were portrayed as...more

The Nearly-Weds was a wonderful romantic read that I thoroughly enjoyed. It was a fun take on starting over with great characters and a plot that rolled along smoothly straight through to the end. My Review

Zoe is heading to America as a live in nanny after being left at the alter by her would be husband. She is devastated but ready to move on after months of silence and no explanation from her would be hubby. She meets the employer from hell, he is dismissive, arrogant and utterly gorgeous but a nightmare to live with and the house is a dump however his two children are beautiful and well she isn't there for him anyway.

Oh how Zoe made me laugh out loud reading this. You go on a roller coaster journey of laughs, tears and oh my Gods. She reminded me of Bridget Jones only more of a liability. It isn't my usual kind of book and definitely chick lit, perfect for a holiday read or something to get you over readers block.

Some of it was a bit predictable but that didn't detract from the enjoyment really (although I did find myself saying really?!?!? a few times). I read it almost in one sitting and it got me through my flight really quickly with a few laughs and hair raising moments so 4/5 for me. My first encounter with this author and I would read her again.(less)

The Nearly-weds is the second book of Jane Costello's that I have both read and fallen in love with.

After you have read one book, there is always a fear when you read another by the same author that it won't be as good. Nothing could be further from the truth in this case. While the writing style is clearly the same, with cheeky charm and a flirty feel, the characters and settings are very much part of their own world.

I liked it a lot, I didn't love it though...

It was a great, fun read. Simple, to the point, cheesy and mushy all at the same time. I enjoyed the characters, Ryan sounds like a hottie, and the kids are adorable. The nanny clan were hilarious, and Zoe a sweetheart, although the part where she goes back to her ex after he jilted her annoyed me to no end. But hey, it's the way the story goes!

I object to both the image on the cover of this book and the title, neither of which really represented what the book is about. A fun and charming read.

I found Zoe character is too good too be true, it's nearly unreal for someone to be that kind-heart, incredibly patient and wise. Working as a governess for a family with no mother and careless father, she's amazing with the kids. Another book of Jane Costello that was just a real pleasure and fun to read!
As always - the main character is just superb, a person that I'd like to be a friend with. So human and so normal, so funny and so clumsy, and all the "bad" things, there were actually so funny, happened to her, which made her so, so real. I picked up The Nearly-Weds straight after reading another Jane Costello book, My Single Friend, because I loved that book so much. And I am surprised to say that I loved The Nearly-Weds even more! You really feel for Zoe right from the beginning of the book. She has been left at the altar by a man that she loves and wants to spend the rest of her life with. She feels as though she can’t cope with the humiliation and speculation any longer so she hops on a plane to America where she becomes a na...more I picked up The Nearly-Weds straight after reading another Jane Costello book, My Single Friend, because I loved that book so much. And I am surprised to say that I loved The Nearly-Weds even more! You really feel for Zoe right from the beginning of the book. She has been left at the altar by a man that she loves and wants to spend the rest of her life with. She feels as though she can’t cope with the humiliation and speculation any longer so she hops on a plane to America where she becomes a nanny to two young children. The way that she copes with the rejection, and with the move to another country shows just how strong a character she really is. She has a real caring side to her nature, which is shown through her interactions with Ryan and his children.

Ryan is another character that I loved. Although at the beginning of the book he comes across as a bad father, and as a bad person, it is easy to see that this is only because he is still grieving for his wife. I love the way that the relationship between Ryan and Zoe progresses through the story, with each of them having to come to terms with their own pain and grief before they can move on with their lives.
Once again, Costello provides the reader with a great cast of supporting characters. Trudie, Amber and Felicity, the other British nannies living in the area, give Zoe a sense of belonging when she moves to a new country, and they all quickly become good friends. They support each other through all the troubles in their professional and personal lives as well as providing a lot of laughs along the way. The only character I did not like was Jason, the man who left Zoe at the altar. He comes across as cowardly and selfish and there were a couple of times that I felt as though he deserved a good, hard slap from Zoe.

Although there are still lots of funny moments that I have come to expect from Costello’s writing, for me The Nearly-Weds also covered a few heavy subjects as well, something that perhaps had been lacking from her other novels. These subjects include death and mourning, infertility, betrayal, and most importantly, the effect of losing a mother on two young children. This added a new depth to the writing and I think it was the balance between these painful subjects and the feeling of hope that comes across in the story that made me love this book so much.

I am a huge fan of Jane Costello, and although I loved both of her other books, Bridesmaidsand My Single Friend, the book that really stands out for me is The Nearly-Weds. It made me laugh and cry and I just can’t wait until her next book is released!(less)

I haven’t read Jane Costello’s debut novel, Bridesmaids, but after reading The Nearly-Weds I’ll be trying my best to get my hands on it. The Nearly-Weds takes a well-worn plot: being jilted on your wedding day and turns it into a fabulous and funny read.

It’s told entirely from Zoe’s point-of-view and Zoe is an immensely enjoyable character. Zoe reminded me of Paige Toon’s female characters; being funny and ultimately quite clumsy. The writing is also similar to Paige’s – it’s simple to get into and has very funny moments interspersed with more serious moments. For example, Zoe shoots Ryan in the eye with a toy bow and arrow (hilarious!) but a few pages later, Samuel has a bit of an incident which was quite scary! Jane’s writing captured me immediately and I was hooked, the book really was easy to follow and I just couldn’t wait to get through it to see what happened with Zoe and the Millers.

I thought Zoe was the perfect character to carry the story. She was witty but she was also human. She acknowledged her flaws which made her much more likeable. She seemed happy in her own skin and I just loved her. I thought Ryan and the kids were also great. Ryan came across a bit moody and distant but after a while he began to thaw and we saw who Ryan really was. Ruby and Samuel were great child characters. I love reading about children in books particualrly when they are written so well as Ruby and Samuel were. For me, the best part of the book was reading of Zoe and Ryan’s changing relationship. Jane did that fantastically well and I had no idea what would happen next with those two. It was like being on a very enjoyable, but very topsy-turvy, rollercoaster.

I also loved the inclusion of Zoe’s British nanny-friends: Trudie, Amber and Felicity. They made quite a group. Trudie was by far the most involved and I thought she was brilliant. She also had hidden depths which surprised me. Amber amused me with all of her strange ways, I have to say. We’re meant to think something is up with Felicity and I admit I had an inkling of what it was. The only other main characters were Jason, of course!, whom I disliked and Zoe’s parents whom I loved. I could feel why Zoe’s mum Helen was worried about her as any parent would. I also hoped that whatever it was that was wrong with Helen wasn’t anything serious.

The book is an incredibly easy read, with short, snappy chapters which move the book along well. There’s hardly a chapter goes by without something stupid/funny happening. I loved that Jane decided to set the book in Boston rather than New York or LA as most authors do. I probably would have liked a few more descriptions of Boston itself though, but since Zoe was there to be a nanny it’s to be expected she wouldn’t venture too far away from the Miller household.

I thought it was an incredibly enjoyable read. Yes, some might say predictable especially with what happens in the last 30 or so pages of the book but I was fine with it, and knew that ultimately Zoe would make the right decision! Sometimes predictability is a good thing and the fact is Jane writes so well it’s easy to forget how predictable it may or may not be. This is well worth a read as it’s immensely enjoyable. I just wish I had Bridesmaids so I could start it right now.(less)

I really liked the story. I found lots of things laugh out loud funny and it was a definite page turner. But, on the other hand, after I was done reading there were some things that I didn't like about it. I didn't like the transition from men at all. It wasn't subtle, it just happened. One minute "he's" all she can think about, the next it's the other guy. That doesn't matter too much to me, though. What I like is a good read, and this is it.

WOW.... seriously this is one of those books that will have you buckled over with laughter.. its soo.. hmm FUNNY!.. and the main characters are just so easy to mesh with and understand and when she goes back to Jason you don't just read it but you know that her love for him is not the same.
seriously a light hearted good read!
ohh and its one of those books that have sex in it but not graphically described.

a perfect book for a three hours train ride. It's an easy writting and keeps your smile on your lips. It's the story of a british baby-sitter who founds love in the USA after her fiance leaves her on their wedding day. Zoe`s sadness evolves into happiness. One scene that made me laugh is when she falls down at a fancy reception, showing her Wonder Woman panties under her evening gown :)).

A book that teaches many important things.
When life goes tits up with a man run for the hills, or at least to the other side of the world.
And if life went tits up with a man then it went wrong for a reason, just because you harking after the sweet and lovely times it doesn't mean you have to start it again because there a change of mind....
A funny chilled summer read that had me giggling away.

i was disappointed when i finished this book. I heard that jane costello is like second Sophie Kinsella, but i disagree with that. Sophie's books are much better. The Nearly-weds is a nice read however. The worst part of the book is the ending, because it is so expected and i got the feeling like Costello forgot about other complications mentioned before in the book. Maybe there will be a second book? i don't know :)

This is the first book that I have read by Jane Costella but it is not going to be the last.

I loved this book and could not put it down, it is a real page turner and had me laughing out loud at times.

This book is a chick lit that needs to be read so go and pick up a copy and im sure that you will enjoy it as much as i did :)

I read a few Costello's books and this one is the best one by far. I am a fan of Brit humor and the book did not disappoint. It's a story about English woman who got stud up at the wedding so, to put some distance between them, she takes a babysitting job in US. The problem arise the moment she comes out of the plane-the agency changed the family she was suppose to go to. Of course, her new family is a bit different.
