I love this book!

One for the Money, as great as this series is, really didn’t show you the potential of laughter to come.

Two for the Dough changes everything! The relationship between Stephanie and Morelli will leave you smiling. All of the wonderful little things in a relationship that bugs you, you’ll find in theirs. The awkward moments to the pitter patter wonder moments.

Grandma Mazur really steps on stage with her need to pay her respects to the dead. Skipping her feet to help her granddaugh...more

I enjoyed One for the Money. The plot was entertaining, the setting was familiar in its otherness, and the characters were likable, well drawn and relatable. Furthermore, Stephanie Plum, the heroine, was rather humorous when remarking on the going’s on of the Berg and her family, and made me giggle at the situations she managed to find herself in. The pace was perfect for turning pages quickly, and before I knew it, I had completed the book. Naturally I wanted to keep reading, though I admit, I...more

I finished the second book of the Stephanie Plum series in about 3 days. Evanovich really knows how to make a reader keep turning the pages!

This book was just as good as the first one. Evanovich still had me chuckling.

I must say I was VERY excited to see that Joe Morelli was also in book 2. I thought he was going to be gone when book 1 finished. I was very happy to see he is a part of the cast of characters that is going to be sticking around. He is a great character, mysterious, sexy character...more

NOTE: I am know I am one of the last people ever to start reading this series but better late than never right? It is as fun (so far) as people said. Stephanie Plum is one hot mess :)

Audio Review: C.J. Critt actually did a wonderful job with the narration. My problem was with the long pauses between chapters. I am guessing that it is because the book may have been recorded for cassette tape rendering.

This is lightweight stuff -- modestly funny and easy to read. It struck me that there was no particular reason for this one to end. It felt as if Evanovich had decided that she had written enough pages and it was time to wrap it up. Had she desired, she could have had Stephanie continue to chase and be chased by the bad guy for several more chapters.

However, we all know that there are another 15 or so episodes to read, so that's a minor complaint.

I read these first two in the series because folk...more

Stephanie is back and she is treading deep waters as her assignments get more hairy and dangerous. Catching drunks and senile ladies who live at the train station is one thing but it's a whole other animal when Stephanie is in charge of apprehending Kenny Mancuso, a man with a very sick sense of humor and lust for chopping off people's body parts. Most of the parts come from the nearby funeral home that he's terrorizing and Stephanie sees this as the perfect opportunity to bring her wake loving...more

It’s a world I am unfamiliar with—the world of Chic Lit (or, if you are over 18, I refer to as Clit Lit). Even though Janet Evanovich’s books take up at least three shelves at the local Barnes & Noble, I have never noticed. Probably because they are in the Mystery section which I pass through on my way to the Science Fiction wall. I don’t look to either side for fear of turning into a pillar of salt. But—(there is always a but) I am in a strange land under strange circumstances these days an...more

Now Stephanie's back, armed with attitude -- not to mention stun guns, defense sprays, killer flashlights, and her trusty .38, Stephanie is after a new bail jumper, Kenny Mancuso, a boy from Trenton's burg. He's fresh out of the army, suspiciously wealthy, and he's just shot his best friend.

With her bounty hunter pal Ranger stepping in occasionally to advise her, Stephanie staggers kneedeep in corpses and caskets as she traipses through back streets, dark alleys, and funeral parlors.

And nobody k...more

From a blog post I wrote in 2005:

Tamyra told me I should read Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series because Stephanie and I have something in common - things just "seem" to happen to us. Maria and I were talking about books and she said her Dad was reading them and sent her the first four which she loaned me. She also said they made her laugh out loud. Then, I was talking to Norene and she said she and her daughters have read all of the books.

OK, so I'm coming late to the party. But, I'm very...more

Personally driving a '53 Buick doesn't sound bad to me, and Steph manages to to end up in it a lot. She seems to destroy every car but this one. The best thing about these books is that they can be "fun". In this book Steph and her Grandma manage to to spend a lot of time in their Trenton neighborhood's primary social gathering place, Stiva's Funeral Home.

I'd say more but that would require a spoiler warning and you know how I hate those. (RIGHT)

Another book I listened to in my truck while at wo...more

Cute story overall, nice, easy read--although I put the book down for a few days and half forgot everything that had happened up to that point. Luckily, Stephanie Plum is quick to remind you of Morelli's drool-worthy physique and any random body parts that show up in her apartment. Evanovich has a great sense of humor and has some very creative ways to torture the unsuspecting guy (who totally deserves what's coming to him at the exact moment). I'm curious to see when Stephanie and Morelli are g...more

"Two for the Dough" is the sequel to "One for the Money. Stephanie Plum returns as the inexperienced bounty hunter who works for her cousin Vinnie’s bail bond office. This time she’s after Kenny Mancuso who shot his best friend. He also happens to be a distant cousin of the vice cop Joe Morelli who is both a scourge and a blessing to Stephanie.

Kenny is supposed to be an easy catch, but as it turns out there’s much more involved. Caskets go missing from Stiva’s funeral home, and then stolen ammun...more

Evanovich is on a roll and her sequel to One for the Money, is Two for the Dough (guess what the third in the series is titled). It continues Stephanie’s career as a bounty hunter and is again populated with the same great characters. Joe Morelli, now back on the police force, is the old friend who keeps an eye on her, is probably in love with her, and can’t wait to check out her lingerie (the scene where she leaves him stranded in the middle of the street with no shorts on, then returns to give...more

I can't quite put my finger on what I don't like about this series... I has mystery, it has some sort of romance, it has humor... But I still don't like it! I think it may be that the mystery is dumb, romance is not quite there, humor is not really funny! Overall, the book seems to have a serious plot, which then seems to be mocked the whole time by silly characters and their unbelievable antics! How am I supposed to get engrossed into a supposed thriller, when the main character (and her grandm...more

Stephanie Plum is back in action. She hasn’t found a “normal” job yet, so back to her cousin Vinnie’s bail bonds office she goes. A girl’s gotta pay the rent somehow, right?

Joe Morelli is back on the right side of the law this time, but his cousin is now the one that Stephanie is after. Since Joe comes from a large extended (and stereotypical) Italian family, Joe is also trying to track him down on his family’s behalf.

Thus Stephanie and Joe are now working towards the same goal. Sometimes, the t...more

"You have a knack for running into people you're looking for, though completely inept at taking them down."

I just finished reading Two for theDough by Janet Evanovich, and let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed! What a great second edition to the Stephanie Plum series!

Stephanie is back and still doing her best as a bounty hunter in Trenton, New Jersey. She's got her tough guy pal, Ranger, a total pro at the job, and super sexy Joe Morelli, helping her out whether she wants it or not!

It's Stephanie Plum, New Jersey's "fugitive apprehension" agent (aka bounty hunter), introduced to the world by Janet Evanovich in the award-winning novel One for the Money.

For me, this one was much better than the first book mainly because Stephanie's grandma gets involved and I love her character. Stephanie once again gets involved with a complicated criminal that she has to bring in with her bounty hunting duties. As I think is becoming usual it's more complicated than it first seems and there are three friends caught up in a gum smuggling scheme. Similar to the first book some of the criminals are into sick and twisted things throughout the book. That is probab...more

Like the first book in the series, I just could not put this book down. The only reason I rated it 4 stars is because I felt that the flow and the timing of the book was a little off. The book took so long for Stephanie to finally get her guy that it felt like one giant game of cat and mouse with a few interesting Morelli/Stephanie tidbits in-between. It was also one of those books where you feel embarrassed for the characters in the book because of something that is happening to them. There are...more

I am so enjoying the Stephanie Plum books, I love her character, her family and the other minority characters in the story. I had finished The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz and thought hmmm.. what to read next that's similar and somebody said "you might like Stephanie Plum" and I am now up to Book #3.
In Two for the Dough, we notice that Stephanie has a close relationship with her Nana and I have to say I love Grandma Plum, she is such a hoot for an old lady- in a way she reminds me a cross betwee...more

A while back I read and loved the first Stephanie Plum book "One for the Money" by Janet Evanovich and LOVED it! I thought it was funny, brilliant, fast paced, and just a good time. So, in the mood for something light I picked up the second book in the series, "Two for the Dough".

In "Two for the Dough" Stephanie Plum, Jersey's bounty hunting gal in training, tries to track down Kenny: a sick scumbag who is smuggling goverment issued weaponry. Along with Stephanie's funeral-happy grandma, ex-pros...more

What happens when you are offered $10000 to search for coffins? Well you take it, duh! This is exactly what happens to our great Plum in the second installment of the Stephanie Plum series, Two for the Dough. Plum is still getting the hang of the bounty hunting thing searching for a man who shot a friend of his. But by chance, due to crazy Grandma Mazur’s obsession with funerals, Plum is offe...more

My review: Two for the Dough is the second in the Stephanie Plum series and proved that this entire series will be a good listen! I can’t wait to pick up the third audiobook after this one kept me laughing.

Stephanie, a bounty hunter, is on the trail of Kenny Mancuso who had just shot his best friend. Some best friend, huh? This guy is a real piece of work and keeps Stephanie and cop Joe Morelli reeling through his gam...more

Oops, didn't add this to my "currently reading" list when I got it from the library. More good times from Stephanie Plum, Vinne, Joe Morelli, Grandma, and even Lula (the large Black prostitute-turned-awesome-file-clerk, I kid you not), as well as other characters (a theft of a number of cheapo caskets from a local funeral home leads Stephanie on a search for missing military weapons and a checkered background from several characters, including the funeral-home proprietor. Joe Morelli's cousin is...more

Just so we're clear, I don't (well now I guess it's changed to "didn't") like series. They suck you in and make you keep reading their sequels. Darn you Janet for writing Stephanie Plum! Darn you!! Guess what I'll be reading next? Yes, the third book! Ugh.

It's hard not to like Stephanie. I imagine if I were a bounty hunter, I'd probably behave the same way she did and make the same mistakes she did. I didn't like this one as much as the first one, but I still really liked it. It was nice seeing...more

Sometimes the second book in a series is a letdown. In my case I had to warm to the first book and with this one I was on fire with laughter right off the bat.

Stephanie Plum breaks all the rules and is the least likely bounty hunter of all time. She is down-to-earth and gets herself into hilarious situations as she just plods ahead not really knowing what she is doing.

Do you remember Vicki Lawrence as "Mama" from the Carol Burnett show? In this book Stephanie enlists Grandma Mazur to help her se...more
