There are only 90 pages more to go, but I can't bring myself to finish this. This book just annoys me too much.

First of all the prerequisites of the story. Seventeen-years-old Ariel Jane Ashe and Ryan Fraser have been together for five happy months. They are very much in love, but A.J.'s mom and Ryan's dad, who have been dating four of these five months, decided to marry in a hurry in order to end this thing between A.J. and Ryan in the earlier stages of their relationship. First of all the prerequisites of the story. Seventeen-years-old Ariel Jane Ashe and Ryan Fraser have been together for five happy months. They are very much in love, but A.J.'s mom and Ryan's dad, who have been dating four of these five months, decided to marry in a hurry in order to end this thing between A.J. and Ryan in the earlier stages of their relationship. So it hurts less. "You will meet lots of other boys" A.J.'s mom, who is said to be more of a friend to her daughter than a mother, says to her daughter. "You can't be together with your brother." What kind of crap is that? Maybe she also could have met a lot of other men apart from her daughter's boyfriend's father? And who says you cannot date the son of your mom's husband? Marriage does not change your genes. And what mother - who is your friend - just forbids you to date the boy you like without discussion? Another one of her points is that A.J. needs to learn self-control anyway, because she is a vampire. The situation is the perfect training material: Just abstain from the boy you love and you will be a reliable vampire when you grow up! Also this my mother-is-my-friend-mom concealed very important facts about her daughter's genetic heritage from her, which results in her determination to find out more by herself.

Later on said mom does not believe A.J., when the teachers (unbelievable characters anyway), who tried to do A.J. in for a long time, fake a test in A.J.'s name with supposedly copied answers - although the handwriting is not A.J.'s and although she knows that her former husband, A.J.s dad, belonged to an evil vampire clan, whose members might try to hurt her daughter through unusual means.

The second thing I cannot stand is, that you know who the evil guys of the story are almost from the moment they are introduced. You say: Well Ariel, here you go. Don't trust this teacher. Don't listen to your mysteriously turned up former best-friend, please question the house-keeper's motivation and so on. But certainly A.J. never heeds your advice. This method of creating suspense is a common one and sometimes I even appreciate being cleverer that the first-person-narrator. But I get pretty annoyed and exhausted, when it is almost the only one.

A third tiny detail also made me growl: Apparently is is better for A.J. to keep her virginity as long as possible. The reason is, that vampires tend to be so very fertile. And we don't want to tempt fate, do we? In a side-sentence it is said, that heightend fertility aside it would certainly better for every girl to put off losing her virginity as long as possible. I hate these disguised lessons in chastity and I hate these useless tips, which leave girls completely unprepared and thus in danger of unwanted pregnancies. If Ms. Francis wants to preach, she should do it properly using comprehensible statements.

So. If you still want to read this vampiric "love-story", you might want to know that there is a sequel in the making: "Love sucks". Yes, well. Melissa Francis might do without love. I might surely do without the novel. (less)

I really enjoyed this book and pretty much flew through it. Francis' debut is full of romance/forbidden love (but not the usual!), mystery, wrongful accusing, and a fresh take on vampires. I loved AJ's sarcasm and snarkiness and her personality and life was so interesting to read about. This book pulls you in and keeps you turning pages, wanting to know more and more of how she'll deal with everything that comes up. This book had many twists and turns and I loved it. When I found out that Mr. Charles was telling Noah what to do. I was so surprised. I don’t understand why AJ would trust Mr. Charles in the first place. He was a creepy character to begin with and if I was her I would have never even asked for his help since being a vampire is a huge secret and she made it obvious. Another thing is that I don’t get why AJ didn’t learn to control her powers since she was little. It is such a big part of her life and it can do wonders. The thing that made me go crazy was the fact that her parents forced her and Ryan to break up. How could any parent do that? Aren’t you supposed to do what’s best for your child? The worst part is that AJ and Ryan met before their parents did. It was basically torture. Melissa Francis made it seem like Ryan was an amazing person. I didn’t like the fact that they couldn’t be with each other.

What surprised me the most was that the Fraser boys all had powers of their own. After Ryan saved AJ from Mr. Charles, using his warlock magic, my jaw dropped. I couldn’t believe it because I didn’t suspect a thing throughout the whole book. Aunt Doreen also surprised me because she knew that AJ was a Serpentine the whole time. I liked the fact that the author made the vampires in this book totally different from those in Twilight and she didn’t include any werewolves. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes action, romance, and mystery.

I really like the whole idea about AJ (Ariel Jane) being a vampire but who is just like a teenage girl. She encounters these problems, boy problems, and some family issues. Bite Me is a wonderful debut from an author I'll be keeping my eye on, Melissa Francis. The witty dialogue and compelling plot she has produced prove that she knows what she's doing.

Melissa Francis has gained a new fan! Bite Me! was a cute, short, and fun read. It wasn't spectacular writing or that the characters were out of this world, no it was the simplest thing of all. I really liked Bite Me! but I didn't quite love it. I was glued to the pages and found it difficult to stop reading, but there were a few elements that I really didn't enjoy.

If thinking she turned someone into a vampire, AJ also has to deal with the fact that the fate of humankind may lay in her hands. Who knew so much could happen in the first week of school?

What I thought
I loved, loved, loved the fact that AJ was such a normal teenager. She was born a vampire so has no choice in what she is and that's something that she has problems with. All AJ wants is to be a normal teenager, have a normal boyfriend and get on with her school work. Tough luck sweetie, adolescence is a bitch! I think the fact that AJ's humanity shows so much is what I liked about her and what made her extremely easy to relate to.

I'm still not sure what I thought about AJ's relationship with Ryan. I did feel really sorry for both of them because there was nothing they could do to change the fact that their parents were getting married. I'm sure having to deal with that must be extremely hard for anyone and especially teens. The emotions, especially AJ's, were described really well and I could feel the jealousy and anger coming out of her. My only real problem with their relationship is what happens at the end of the book and how AJ and Ryan appear to be dealing with things.

Bite Me! was really funny in places and this was because of how well the characters were written. AJ and her friends are typical teenage girls in some places and the conversations they have were just like some I used to have with my friends. Some parts of Bite Me! had me laughing out loud which was a nice surprise. This book has a lighter feel to it compared to other vampire books which will make it more suitable for teens but also good for adults.

One of the things that I like most about reading books with mythical creatures is the history and mythology behind them. Melissa Francis really out-does herself in this department. Although everything isn't explained, enough was to keep me very happy and excited for the sequel, 'Love Sucks'. A lot of books in this genre always seem to throw werewolves in the mix or something along those lines but Francis adds in something completely different which was a total shocker for me and something that makes me want to read the second book.

I'm really liking all of the new authors that I am discovering who can write a book where I don't guess who the bad guy is. I really thought that I had this one all figured out but then I was completely wrong. One of the best parts of this book for me was figuring out exactly what is going on. There is a lot of mystery throughout concerning who is doing what and why but there are also some twists that really made me re-think my bad guy options.

Bite Me! is a well rounded YA novel that was so much better than I had originally thought it would be. I think Melissa Francis is going to be staying on my to be read list for a long time. I can't wait for Love Sucks to be released on July 27th.

Now her boyfriend is going to be her stepbrother and their house is soon bustling with a variety of people. Like the Brady Bunch, the Ashe girls are soon joined by the Fraser boys and their nanny-like Aunt D. There is a lot of excitement in the first week of the marriage and move, and this is where the plot really starts to twist and turn.

The plot was very original because not only did AJ have to promise to break things off with Ryan, she had to hide the fact that she, her mother, and sisters are vampires. The vampire angle is unlike any I have ever read about. Steeped in history and intrigue, AJ's vampire background is interesting and different.

There are a variety of plot twists and turns in the novel and AJ is becoming overwhelmed with all she has to deal with. Family problems, friend problems, and vampire problems. She doesn't know who she can trust and some of the characters are revealed to be very different than I originally thought. Meanwhile, AJ is also trying to figure out more about her vampire background. I loved reading about the history surrounding her kind and how it tied into AJ and her family today.

Suspense, romance, intrigue, and history all combine to make this a fantastic debut novel. The characters are well developed and the dialogue is fun and interesting. Throughout the novel you will be wondering what will happen next; all leading up to a surprising ending! I'm so glad I have the sequel, Love Sucks! so I can start it next!

Naturally I'm going to give my own book 5 stars. I mean, if I didn't think it was awesome, why should you buy it?

I'll tell you what I like most about BITE ME! The heroine is a teenage vampire. But she struggles with that part of her identity. She just wants to be 'normal.' So she has spent a good deal of her 17 years ignoring her vampire side and now that some really bad stuff is going down, she's kinda starting to regret it.

Bite Me By Melissa Francis was an amazing read. She has a way of drawing you into her writing. I could not put the book down, I read the book in one day. It may be a shorter read, but you will not be disappointed to were the writing will take you.

The best way I can describe Bite Me! is that it is the love child between FAIRY TALE and I Kissed A Zombie, And I Liked It - snappy-happy with just enough snark and a little bit of sparkly. The sucky part was the disaster between AJ and Ryan which had delicious and heart-wrenching tension that seems to have no hope whatsoever.

Melissa Francis’ Bite Me! is not just another vampire story. I mean it is a vampire story, but she creates a clever and intricate history which AJ Ashe must discover. I liked AJ, but I loved Ryan. This was a fun, quick read about a teenage vampire girl and her new blended family.
I enjoyed the voice of Ariel. She's sarcastic and funny and at times heartbreaking.
There is lots of mystery running througout this story and some big surprises along the way. I enjoy when I don't know exactly where the story is going or who's the villain.
I liked what the author did with vampire lore here, making it new and different, bringing in some of their history.

This book was incredible! It's mostly incredible because of all of the drama. The author really knows how to keep her readers on the end of their seats. I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. My favorite character is AJ Ashe. This book is awesome! It really is. It's tragic that Ryan had to become her stepbrother when they were so in love. I guess I would feel like AJ if that happened to me.
Anyway, I thought that Mrs. Crandall would be the one who's been setting her up. I was wrong. BY a longshot. It had been Mr. (I forgot his name) who was up to no good. It was really unexpected.
