AJ Ashe isn't your typical seventeen-year-old vampire—as if there is such a thing! She's stuck in the middle of a huge fight between her two BFFs. Her ex-boyfriend—whom she's still totally in love with, by the way—is now her stepbrother. A former classmate—who, um, she may or may not have turned into a vampire—is stalking her. AJ Ashe, a teenage Southern belle, is hiding a secret.

Her family is descended from a long line of vampires - yep, I just said vampires. AJ has fangs and occasionally craves blood, but she has also suppressed many of her vamp instincts to fit into "normal" society.

The part that's not normal - AJ's mom is marrying her boyfriend's father.

AJ knows she can't be with Ryan, especially now that they are step-siblings. The reality of the situation doesn't make it h...more

OMG, I LOVE this book. I have so much to say (all amazingly awesome details), but I'm reserving them for the review on my blog, which will be posted on 8/19/11. For now...fantastic, totally rad and I can't wait to read Love Sucks!

There are only 90 pages more to go, but I can't bring myself to finish this. This book just annoys me too much.

First of all the prerequisites of the story. Seventeen-years-old Ariel Jane Ashe and Ryan Fraser have been together for five happy months. They are very much in love, but A.J.'s mom and Ryan's dad, who have been dating four of these five months, decided to marry in a hurry in order to end this thing between A.J. and Ryan in the earlier stages of their relationship. So it hurts less. "Yo...more

I really enjoyed this book and pretty much flew through it. Francis' debut is full of romance/forbidden love (but not the usual!), mystery, wrongful accusing, and a fresh take on vampires. I loved AJ's sarcasm and snarkiness and her personality and life was so interesting to read about. This book pulls you in and keeps you turning pages, wanting to know more and more of how she'll deal with everything that comes up. The cover makes it look like a fun, light vampire read, but don't be fooled- the...more

I really like the whole idea about AJ (Ariel Jane) being a vampire but who is just like a teenage girl. She encounters these problems, boy problems, and some family issues. The plot got a bit boring when I was in the middle of the story. I don't know but I just did, I felt like there's nothing here anymore. That was just for a short time while reading the book, but it then got better after a while. The plot was very smooth, the book went well, everything was planned well, the bits and pieces of...more

Bite Me is a wonderful debut from an author I'll be keeping my eye on, Melissa Francis. The witty dialogue and compelling plot she has produced prove that she knows what she's doing.

This novel was some-what a part of the romance genre. I liked the coupling in the novel, but didn't like the situation of it. AJ and her ex are just recently step-siblings and are still in love with each other. At first, the sibling factor added a new twist and I thought that maybe something would happen, like their...more

Melissa Francis has gained a new fan! Bite Me! was a cute, short, and fun read. It wasn't spectacular writing or that the characters were out of this world, no it was the simplest thing of all. Bite Me! was pure romantic, supernatural, action packed drama in a big ball of fun. Every now and then you need to read a book that doesn't require you to look for the hidden meaning or soul search. The characters in the book were easy to connect to despite them being supernatural beings. AJ Ashe is a rea...more

WOW! this book was so much fun to read. Despite the no-so-cute-cover, the story was a lot of fun, and seemed like your typical YA Brady-Bunch meets vampire meets witches story.

AJ's life turns into a shambles when her boyfriend, Ryan becomes her step brother. In a fit of revenge, she makes out with a guy named Noah and when things turned ugly, she later finds out Noah is dead. Now thinking she killed him, she learns her vampire heritage leads her back to an acient evil Serpentine tribe. She deci...more

I really liked Bite Me! but I didn't quite love it. I was glued to the pages and found it difficult to stop reading, but there were a few elements that I really didn't enjoy.

I thought that Bite Me! was a fresh take on vampires and I really enjoyed learning a bit about them through AJ's perspective. AJ has a fun, witty voice and she had me laughing at some of her comments! I really felt for her situation with Ryan. They had to break up with each other when their parents got married and it just di...more

17 year old AJ's mother has just gotten married. Having a new family causes quite a few problems for AJ as she has to stop seeing a guy she is insane about because he is now her brother and she also hide the fact that she's a vampire. Breaking up with Ryan was the hardest thing that AJ has ever had to do but knows it is for the best.

At the party for the last day of summer, Ryan turns up with another girl, Lindsey and AJ can't cope with it. Even though she knows she isn't supposed to (because of...more

Melissa Francis is a terrific writer and I am SO excited to find out what's next for her. Bite Me was a completely original and enjoyable novel and I finished it in a couple of days.

AJ is a head strong, independent main character who is surprisingly relatable. While she is a vampire, AJ is also dealing with regular things and living a normal life for a seventeen year old girl. I loved how down to earth AJ was and how she made readers want to be friends with her. Unfortunately things start to get...more

I really liked this book. It was a great YA vampire book. High School drama with a twist. This book kept me entertained until the end. And I have to say that I did not see the end coming.
The book starts off at AJ's mom's wedding. The kicker is that AJ's mom is marrying her ex-boyfriend's dad who she had to break up with because her mom and her ex Ryan's dad decided to get married.
You then get to hear about AJ's vampire side and what the backwards S means on her neck. Also Ryan and his family don...more

I am so glad I was able to get an early copy of this book. The story is about AJ a young teenage vampire that basically wants to be normal. Have a boyfriend,go to school, spend time with her best friends. The normal teenage stuff.

The trouble starts when her mom gets married. The love of her life is now her stepbrother. It's a heartbreaking and uncomfortable situation for them both but AJ tries to deal with it the best she can. Until other strange and tragic things start happening around her and s...more

This book was really interesting, I was deep into this book because it was heart filling. I think if you like an edgy book like this then you have to read "Bite Me" because this book is twisted with secrets, false lovers and more. I learned a lot form this book and that is never keep secrets from people that you care about because in the end you may not have that person there with you when you need them. This book is about a girl who is half vampire and half human but she feeds more for the bloo...more

A.J.'s life quite frankly...sucks.

Her boyfriend's now her step-brother now.

Great.

To top it all off, she's a vampire and has to hide the secret from her new family.

Double great.

So when she goes off into the forest with a this guy named Noah, you'd think everything would be okay.

Not.

Now dealing with a former classmate stalking her, cheating allegations, and trying to get over feelings for her stepbrother, A.J. has to learn some secrets about her own past that should've probably stayed secrets.

Nice...more

I gave this book a 4 star rating for one reason it was really written for young adults and I read it that way. I still in fact love the vampire story line and it was well written. AJ and Ryan were two kids in love with each other when their parents got married and that ended their relationship. AJ was keeping the family vampire secret from Ryan but later on things start to come to light about some secrets Ryan kept as well. This story has romance death excitement and a coming of age and learning...more

Naturally I'm going to give my own book 5 stars. I mean, if I didn't think it was awesome, why should you buy it?

I'll tell you what I like most about BITE ME! The heroine is a teenage vampire. But she struggles with that part of her identity. She just wants to be 'normal.' So she has spent a good deal of her 17 years ignoring her vampire side and now that some really bad stuff is going down, she's kinda starting to regret it.

Plus there's the whole "I'm in love with my step-brother storyline" tha...more

Bite Me By Melissa Francis was an amazing read. She has a way of drawing you into her writing. I could not put the book down, I read the book in one day. It may be a shorter read, but you will not be disappointed to were the writing will take you.

The best way I can describe Bite Me! is that it is the love child between FAIRY TALE and I Kissed A Zombie, And I Liked It - snappy-happy with just enough snark and a little bit of sparkly. The sucky part was the disaster between AJ and Ryan which had delicious and heart-wrenching tension that seems to have no hope whatsoever.

Beyond doomed relationship angle, the rest of the story was all right. It mostly stayed afloat with the tongue-in-cheek humor and mystery that surrounded AJ's family histor...more

AJ's life totally sucks. First of all - her mom is marrying her boyfriend's father - putting an end to their relationship. Unfortuantely, she's having a hard time keeping her hands off him. She tells him it's time to move on and she even picks out his future girlfriend - but she never expected him to take her advice. Now she's stuck at a party and fuming. However, there's a boy who has his eye on her. She leaves the party for a secluded makeout spot. But trouble comes calling, she leaves the are...more

Melissa Francis’ Bite Me! is not just another vampire story. I mean it is a vampire story, but she creates a clever and intricate history which AJ Ashe must discover. I liked AJ, but I loved Ryan. They like each other, but then their parents marry and well, it is a southern cliche to hook up with your sibling, right? Meanwhile, antics ensue left and right with death, lying, and crazy, prophesy-weilding scrolls. And all this in the course of a week!

I can’t wait to see the mystery continue to unf...more

Quote from WORD for Teens:

I'm not going to say I didn't enjoy this story. I love a good vampire novel as much as the next teenage girl, and this one did have some aspects that I enjoyed. I loved the whole background on the history - her Serpentine background, the potential prophecies that the sequel will hold, etc. Aunt Doreen is a fantastic character. The drama between Ryan (her boyfriend gone stepbrother) and AJ was fantastic.

On the other hand, it seemed as if there were too many plot points.....more

This was a fun, quick read about a teenage vampire girl and her new blended family.
I enjoyed the voice of Ariel. She's sarcastic and funny and at times heartbreaking.
There is lots of mystery running througout this story and some big surprises along the way. I enjoy when I don't know exactly where the story is going or who's the villain.
I liked what the author did with vampire lore here, making it new and different, bringing in some of their history.
I don't want to get into the actual details of...more

This book was incredible! It's mostly incredible because of all of the drama. The author really knows how to keep her readers on the end of their seats. I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. My favorite character is AJ Ashe. Her life is pretty jacked up because everyone thinks she is lying about everything and her teachers are so unfair. My least favorite character is Mr. Charles and Ryan. I hate the fact that Ryan cant ever make up his mind. I also thought that MR.Charles had is...more

AJ and Ryan are star-crossed lovers...not only are they now step sister and brother thanks to a "Brady Bunch" like wedding (I've included the lyrics at the bottom of this review - ha!) but they also each have a mysterious family secret they've been keeping from one another. Their new family situation tests the boundaries of love and leaves the reader painfully waiting for a sequel.

Initially, I admit that I judged this book by its cover. The image of the blond girl on the cover with a scripted t...more

This book is awesome! It really is. It's tragic that Ryan had to become her stepbrother when they were so in love. I guess I would feel like AJ if that happened to me.
Anyway, I thought that Mrs. Crandall would be the one who's been setting her up. I was wrong. BY a longshot. It had been Mr. (I forgot his name) who was up to no good. It was really unexpected. And also the news about her Mum being pregnant and Ryan's family being the Friecadaens or something was a huge shocker.

I haven't read the...more

Born and bred in Arkansas, Melissa Francis is a small town southern girl with big city dreams. (Okay, she dreams of big city shoes, but there’s nowhere to wear them ’round these parts. Plus she really is a barefoot girl at heart.) The University of Arkansas at Little Rock allowed her to graduate with an English degree, but many of her friends...more
