This book was really incredible. I loved the fast paced feel of it along with the need to solve the world problem. It really got me thinking about how our country is ran and how much goes on without us ever knowing about it. On page 190-191 the President is talking and saying how the next person to take office will be shocked at how much they did not know and what dangers are out there people are just trying to keep at bay. This book was great I would put it up there with The Da Vinci Code. Ther...more

After saving a man from a car bomb outside of a Paris cafe, Scot Harvath gets pulled back into the web of political intrigue. Scholars have uncovered the fabled last revelation of Mohammed, a revelation so shocking that it will shake radical Islam to its core. Can Harvath protect the scholars involved when a former CIA assassin turned Islam convert is gunning for them?

The Last Patriot was a lot better than the other Brad Thor book I got for my birthday. The tying of Thomas Jeffers...more

This is my first Brad Thor book. I was really hoping for a 5 star read. I at least wanted to be able give this book 4 stars, but I couldn't. I liked it, but I can't say I REALLY liked it (I had hoped I could). Was it a good book? Yes, it was. It was much to quick a read though. Done and over in less than a week of evening reading. There were points I didn't want to/couldn't put the book down, which may be why I got through it so quickly. In the end, however, I felt...let down.

The reason I give The Last Patriot 5 stars isn't just for the story, although improbable it is fast paced and edgy and keeps the reader totally engaged, I give also award 5 stars for shining a bright light into the reality of Islam in America and the danger of being politically correct. It is rather like Nero mythically fiddling while Rome burned after he had the fires set. Thor holds up a light in a dark room of denial. There are domestic terrorists in the United States just like there a...more

This has been an excellent book so far! I saw a review of this book & decided to give it a try. I think I may have found another author to add to my list of favorites which means I now have a source of books which I have not read yet!

Addendum:

I enjoyed this book for a variety of reasons. The author has experience in the field which he wrote about so the plot felt authentic. It did leave me a little flat in the end though. I'm not sure but there may be a continui...more

Brad Thor is the bomb! Every time I read one of his novels I get all excited and happy. I guess its probably that the good guy (Scot Harvath) always walks away having done damage to the bad guys (usually terrorists of some ilk). However you cut it, if you feel like you are a patriotic American, then you'll love Brad Thor's books in general and this one in particular.

In this particular novel, Thor mixes a more mature and complex Harvath with both a number of new characters as well as s...more

I have now discovered Brad Thor. This is the first book I read by him, yet after some really superficial research I have found that he has made quite a name for himself as a writer of what the book cover proclaims is a "thriller". I have also discovered that this particular book has landed Mr. Thor in a rather Thorny (no pun intended) controversy. And I can see why.

Let me be clear about a couple of things. First, I would be dishonest if I said this book did not keep me tur...more

This novel is packed with action and suspense. Fans who enjoyed Jason Bourne on the screen and in Robert Ludlum's books will enjoy this novel.
As other reviewers have noted, it combines the character of prior Brad Thor thrillers with the puzzle solving of "The Da Vinci Code."
The plot centers on the discovery of the final revellation given to Muhammed. It contains a strong rejection of Islimists who embrace violence to meet their objectives.
Scot Horvath, the counterterr...more

Such a promising premise for a book. How do you destroy fundamentalist, militant Islam? The best way, likely the only way, according to author Brad Thor, is for a moderate movement within the religion to have a final say regarding the revelations of Mohammed. Citing the islamic principle of abrogation, which posits that later revelations to the prophet supersede previous divine directives, Brad Thor constructs a compelling scenario: a final, hidden revelation exists with the potential to perm...more

Yay! Another Scott Harvath novel. Pretty basic intrigue. CIA wetwork operative gone bad whose attempted hit sucks Scott Harvath back into the game of anti-terrorism. There are a couple of things that make this book rather relevant. First, the fact the the Us has decided (some will agree and disagree with me here) that fire can only be fought with fire. Terrorist do not follow the Marquis of Queensbury rules and we are doomed to fail in our fight if we attempt to extend the protection of our la...more

This is my second Brad Thor book. I enjoyed it. The book is a fast read and very similar to Vince Flynn. So if you like Vince Flynn you will probably like Brad Thor. This book reminds me a little of Da Vinci Code. They are trying to fit a lost history together. I don't know much about Thomas Jefferson or the pirates on the Barbary coast or the reasons why the US Government set the marines to that area during that time. It is an interesting story, especially if the US government was paying of...more

Good action thriller!

This was my first book by author Brad Thor. I came across the book randomnly and was instantly intrigued by the cover story.

The book reminded me at times of the National Treasure movies, but on a much larger scale!

This being my first Thor novel, I wasn't familiar with the main character of all his books, Scot Harvath, but grew to love him. He's smart, tough and virtually unbeatable!

The historical side of the book, being the...more

I looked this book up to put it on my ‘currently-trying-to-read’ list and noticed following the title: (Scot Harvath, #7). Number SEVEN? There are six more with this character? Shit. I am already hating this one and probably won’t make it to the end. Maybe the author wrote a few good books and then burned out on this one. It is poorly written, the characters are completely uninteresting, the American Government is trying to destroy the Muslim religion (oh, give me a break please) and Thomas Jeff...more

Ex-Navy Seal Scot Harvath is at it again. Though Scot wants to stay away from the "business" (Black Ops) he is drug back into the saving America from Isalmists while on vacation. The antagonist's of the story (Islamists) are out to destroy the profit Mohammads last testament which is believed to turn the Koran's beliefs upside down. As every muslim knows disobeying and questioning the Koran means one thing... death. Join Harvath and on this epic quest to discover the secret device that...more

While this is not my "typical" read, I really, really enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down. It is what I would classify as a "guy book", lots of action, military/secret agent based plot. I was constantly looking for time to read. It reminds me a little of Da Vinci Code or Angles & Demons, lots of little sub-plots that all start to come together while your left guessing how the puzzle fits. It also draws a lot of correct historical truths into the book whi...more

This thriller, which I read in two days (one of which was a 6hr bus ride back from Manhattan!) is another in the Scot Harvath series. Starting with two quick and intriguing murders, the reader (and Scot) are plunged into a giant conspiracy that has spanned thousands of years and could potentially change the face of one of the world’s major religions – and all current events as we know them. Reacting quickly, Scot is able to perform a heroic duty to his country, but the theoretical “lost revela...more

98 out of 100 for 2010

A really interesting novel; kind of a cross between Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp series and Dan Brown's DaVinci code. Scott Harvath has tried to get out of the spy business and live life on his own terms; he's in Paris with his girl friend when he sees a bombing about to happen. He saves the intended victim, who is, of all things, a Jefferson scholar, and is soon drawn into a web of international terrorism.

Lest this sound contrived, at the heart of this is...more

This was one of the better ones in the series so far. It picks up right where the last one did with Scot Harvath trying to get away from his dealings with the President after he was labeled a traitor. Instead, Harvath is put right in the middle of something that many think is true, other don't. Is the Koran truly complete and total? According to this book, perhaps it isn't. While pure fiction, this book does tie a lot of great ideas like Islam and how the United States had its first "war"...more

I am reading this on my Sony eReader, so I can't give you the accurate page number to compare to a traditional copy. But I am a quarter of the way into the story and really loving it. This is a great adventure story with political intrigue rolled in as well. I love political novels, but some of them can get a bit too testosterone-heavy for my taste. This is not one of those novels. This is good, old-fashioned adventure fun! Some readers have compared it to a Dan Brown novel, and while that...more

This is my first Brad Thor book, but the 7th in the series. It's a lot like the Jack Ryan books by Tom Clancy, it's not so much a series, but each book does build off of the previous books. Because I hadn't read the previous books there was a lot I didn't know about the characters nor did I feel as connected to them. But the story was still very interesting. It was like a cross between a Clancy book and a Dan Brown book.

I enjoyed the fact that the bad guys were unashamedly Muslim extre...more

Thor's Last Patriot follows the story of Scot Harvath, former Navy SEAL turned operative for Homeland Security...but frustrated by events in previous assignment. He disappears with the love interest and 'accidentally' saves a man in Paris from a car bomb. Conspiracy by Muslim fundamentalists to suppress information on a lost surah of the Quaran which would be the last revelation of Mohammed abrogating the violent ones before. The source was sought by Jefferson. Its discovery could change the mil...more

I found this book at the departure lounge in LAX. I'm now pretty certain as to why it was left behind. I can deal with tacky spy novel writing but this book was oozing with so much patriotic Americanism that it was pretty hard to stomach.

I've read a couple of recent-ish spy novels lately and it's been very interesting to me. I used to read this genre a lot more but that was 15 years ago. As a Canadian who has experienced this gap in spy/thriller novels, I have recognized a

Some very interesting historical perspectives, tied in to events as current as tonights news. Brad Thor gives us a pretty intense look behind the scenes of what the war against terrorism might actually look like.
I found myself wishing there was a little more of that side of the story. There was a lot of research into the real origins of Islamic fundamentalism, and their plan for the rest of us. But there was also a lot of backstory, and how Scot Harvath was trying not to get involve...more

The great thing about Brad Thor and especially this book is that he not only bring accuracy and detail in the description of weapons used by characters in the book, but he reveals little known historical events. For example, "the shores of Tripoli" in the Marine hymm was referencing when the Marines went to battle to fight the piracy of the Barbary Coast. I had no idea that the US used to pay essentially a ransom to allow maritime commerce ships to freely traverse the Mediterreanean....more

Story with an interesting premise; a little of the conspiracy theory thrown in. Kept me intrigued.

Learned about Jefferson's retreat home, Poplar Forest, something we missed when we visited Monticello several years ago. Also increased my knowledge of Jefferson's wide-ranging research interests and areas of expertise if what the book implies is correct.

The story dragged on occasion; got bogged down in the mundane or philosophical musings. The story begins with a major coincidence and keeps rol

I got this for Bob for vacation but I've been zipping through books so fast I needed to read his. This was a fast-paced thriller that weaves a search for a lost, last prophecy by Mohammad to murder and mayhem with an agent who wants to quit stumbling across a would be victim and saving him. But the bad guys are still after him.

This reminds me of all the fast-paced thriller out there. PG rating, which is nice, and I didn't realize that this is the author's 7th in a series with this pr...more

This was in the same line as the last jihad...different twist, - a little less blowing things up, but had to do with Thomas Jefferson and the beginnings of the conflict between Islam and the West. He does have a list of "embellishments and inventions" at the end - but it does make me want to find out much more about the Barbary Coast pirates and what all went on back there. Pirates! Can you imagine in this day and age? Oh WAIT, we DO have pirates...sounds like the same bunch too! Co...more

“There are many lay people and scholars alike, both with and without the Muslim community, who feel that the pure orthodox Islam of the fundamentalists could never survive outside the context of its seventh-century Arabian origins. Apply twenty-first-century science, logic, or humanistic reasoning to it and it falls apart.
They believe this is why Islam has always relied so heavily on the threat of death. Question Islam, malign Islam, or leave Islam and you will be killed. It is a totalitarian modus operandi that silences all dissent and examination, thereby protecting the faith from ever having to defend itself.”
