Set in a second grade classroom, this book describes Mrs. Pidgeon's classes work with fables. Gooney Bird Greene comes up with the idea of each student writing a fable about an animal that has the same letter as their name. Some find this more difficult than others. In the end, that students learn a lot about each other and themselves.

Gooney Bird Greene and the second grade class at Watertower Elementary School are studying fables. Gooney Bird comes up with a great idea for everyone in the class to make up his or her own fable starring an animal that starts with the first letter of each child's name. The whole class is excited and can't wait to share their fables. Gooney Bird is put in charge of the project and helps out Nicholas with his big problem. And everyone has to help Malcolm stop saying everything three times (might More...

It's about Gooney bird. Gooney Bird and his class all have to tell a fable. I like Tyrone a lot 'cause he raps every second. It's just hilarious! I love him! He's my favorite character!

Gooney teaches her classmates about fables. Love the vocabulary and her enchanting ways, but (although still worth reading) this one wasn't quite as good as the last one.

Another favorite Gooney book has her class create fables about themselves, but Gooney cant be happy unless everyone is happy.

Okay, so it's not long on plot. But the characters are real and hilarious, and it's exactly what beginning readers need. Thank you, Lois Lowry.

Gooney Bird is such a fun character. I loved Malcolm, who has recently developed the habit of saying things three times each and poor Nicholas, who has a big problem that takes a good deal of creativity to solve. Fun stuff, and the teacher reminds me so much of the second grade teacher I worked with during my time with C. These books make me miss that year a great deal.

Even more fun than the first one! Gently didactic and easily adapted for classroom use when teaching fables, story construction, alphabetization, animal study, fiction vs. nonfiction and lots more. I'm going to have to find a way to either use it or suggest a 2nd grade teacher read all three in the course of a year.

Gooney is cute. A little obnoxious, but these books are a fun quick read for Junie B Fans - who already appreciate obnoxiousness!

I love Gooney (and am a huge fan of Lois Lowry), and enjoyed this one, though not quite as much as the first two.
