This is a book told by four characters, a la Spoon River Anthology, whose lives intersect on one dark, fateful night. Laurie is excited because high school sexpot Quin asked her out on a date. Analise’s parents and boyfriend are only worried to find out who did this, but as time goes on the leads begin to go cold. Meanwhile, Laurie is confused when she hears about the accident because she believes she might know something about what happened. The problem is that she has to decide if she should come forward with what she supposedly knows or use it to improve her own life by blackmailing someone.
The title of this book is called Hit and Run written by Lurlene McDaniel. This novel is about four teens that are in high school. One day at school in the cafeteria Quin had asked Laurie to a date, on the big date they had so much fun until Quin hits something and his mother's car has a huge damage to the front. When Laurie gets out of the car Quin tells her to get back in, Quin just managed to tell her that he hit a deer. While Laurie gets back into the car Quin is putting branches over the something he hit. Back at Jeremy's house he was sleeping when he gets a phone call from Sonya and Jack. They were asking him if he knew where Analise was. Jeremy had no clue where she could be, as fast as he was able to drive he went to Analise's home where he saw Sonya and Jack crying so Jeremy tried to comfort them. Jeremy, Sonya and Jack took off searching for Analise in Jeremy's car. They called the babysitting couple, her friends to see if they knew where Analise might be. While they were searching Quin was driving Laurie home and had warned her not to tell anyone of what had happened. The next day Quin's dad Spence Palmer was asking Quin on what had happened to the car. But Quin had trouble telling his father but finally he told his father. The next couple of months the police are still investing and finally they find Analise's body. They call Jeremy and told Jeremy to tell Sonya and Jack the three of them rush to the hospital Analise is still alive, the doctor tells them she has to be in the ICU and has to go through a lot of operations. Laurie finds herself feeling guilty so she tells Amy that she and Quin were driving and they might have hit Analise. After hearing this news Amy told the police so the police arrested Spence Palmer because he was a person in interest and they also arrested Quin Palmer for doing the crime. Analise couldn't survive and ended dying. The genre of this novel is realistic fiction.
Hit and Run is an extraordinary novel that shows how high school students do anything just to be popular. I would recommend this novel to teenagers around the age of 14-18 because I feel like that age group can maybe relate to this in fact adults can relate to this too. I felt like the book was coming to life when I read it that was what honestly kept me reading, it was like watching a movie while reading. It was a nice experience reading this novel.

Such a tough story.

One party, a few too many drinks, a chance bike ride, a chance date and leaving the party early. All of these pieces come together to create the perfect setting for a horrible accident.

This story is just heartbreaking. Because you can see how easy it would be. It's told through 4 people - the girl on the date & her date. The girl who is hit and her boyfriend. Through them, you can see all of the pieces of how this perfect storm can create such chaos and devastation.

As I read the opening, which were the thoughts of Analise I thought of two people. First was a boyfriend I had in my senior year. He was injured in a motorcycle accident and his parents were told he didn't understand anything going on. I wrote letters of encouragement to him and his parents read them to him and placed them under his pillow. He came out of his coma four months later and his mom called and said he'd asked for me because of my letters. He'd heard them. The second person was my cousin who'd had an accident and she also lay in a coma for several months. She talked about being able to hear what people said and understanding them but at the same time she was unable to communicate back with them. My final connection was with Analise's parents. Three weeks before my sons fifth birthday, while he and two of his cousins played in the front yard a truck ran off of the road into our yard and hit my son. What made this so heinous was the driver kept on going, making a delivery and telling his customer he thought he'd hit a kid. The only reason he was brought back was because a man making a delivery across from our house chased him down and brought him back to await the police. The cold heartedness of this man I equated with pure evil. He claimed he had not hit my son, my son hit his truck. My son lived, just by the grace of God, and outside of a permanent back injury is well enough to be in the military.

This was an excellent book. One that I could not put down. Quin is an athlete pushed by his father to let nothing stand in the way of his athletic career, not a girl and not a hit and run accident. Laurie is the girl who is so pushed to fit in with the "in" crowd by her mother that she will throw out what she knows is right to get what she wants. What she wants is Quin. Analise is the victim of a hit and run accident. She is locked inside her body unable to communicate with those she loves. Her boyfriend Jeremy proves he loves her by staying by her side all the way through the book. This is a hard look at right and wrong. Something I know teens can relate to. I loved this book and before I take it back to school I will lend it to my daughter who first introduced me to Lurlene McDaniel's books. Sorry I made her wait so long.

I gave this book four stars because I enjoyed reading this book. However, I was really disappointed with the conflict of the book. The characters are portrayed very well, you can see how the characters really act with the tragedy of losing this girl. The climax is building as you are going on with the book. Examples of the climax building would be when Laurie sent Quin a text,and she figured she would gain their popularity status as a freshman. Also another climax builder was when Laurie tried to cover her tracks and make it seem like Quin did it when really she did it. I really enjoyed the way the author gave me an emotional feel to what happened after Annalise woke up from her coma. I was really touched with how well it was great acting. Everything after that really grabbed my attention because I really was curious about what was gonna happen to Annalise when she woke up. This is a great novel to read. The author really shows her essence through those characters. I also like how the author gave the format of the book, like a journal entry. I love when authors do that. I love the fact that authors try something different and not the same old same old formatting of a book.I really can connect with this book in several ways and I think that everyone should read this book. Hopefully this story isn't real. However, if it was a real true story, I would say that it was kind of great because that is where the author probably got her inspiration from in order to write this book. Good plot line. Bad characters. Hanging ending.

Maybe the ending was like the way it was on purpose, but all I can say was that I was extremely disappointed about how Analise just suddenly turned away from Jeremy, away from Laurie, away from everyone. First, I need to point out that I love Lurlene McDaniel. I own most of her books and keep adding to the collection.

Sadly, this is not a stellar addition to the collection.

Quin, Laurie, and Annalise were well-written (Laurie the best of them). Jeremy, not so much.

It is an interesting take on a tragedy (as her books often are), focusing on the question of what is moral and looking at how people respond to things that happen in their lives.

Laurie didn't feel like it was right but did was Judie said. Afraid and hurt if the police found out that the incident might ruin his future as an athlete and reputation and his father expected him to get a scholarship, Quin accepts and pretends to be Laurie's boyfriend. A few days later, Jeremy receives a call from Analise's mother informing him that Analise is dead. Guilty of her actions, Laurie emails Analise's friend, Amy the evidence that proved Quin's car he was driving hit Analise. When Analise was pronouced dead, in Analise's point of view, her spirit floats our of her body and outside the building of the hospital. She passes by on her way to the light to show that she is crossing over to heaven.
At the end of the book, Jeremy is the one who creates Analise's coffin with his beautiful wood carving skills. With now the evidence that proved that Quin was the one who hit Analise, consequence was taken again Quin. At the end, Jeremy says his farewells to Analise. I like this book because this book, Hit and Run sorts of gives us a story that can happen in the now today in the real world. There is a lot of intense and dramatic scenes in this book that gives me a visual image of the book also, like how Laurie threaten Quin or when Laurie told the truth. This book i would rate 3/5 stars because this book was too short and it felt that the book could be longer. (less)

I really did LOVE this book.
when I first saw it, I was in a bookstore, and I as in there until closing reading that book.
but cursing my slow reading skills, I only finished half of it.

I was have a great summer vacation, but school was right around the corner, and I NEEDED to read a book!
so I went BACK to that bookstore a bought it.

In this book Analise a senior in high school was going for a bike ride one night when suddenly she went missing for two days. The cops found her lying on the side of the mountain road. Laurie a freshman got asked out on a date with the coolest senior in her school Quin. Quin took her to a party on top of the mountain, when he tried to convince Laurie to get in the back of his truck she refused and said to take her home. On their way home Quin was driving while he was drunk, and said he hit a deer. Laurie figured it was just a deer so she never thought about it, but when she heard that Analise was found on the side of the mountain she began to wonder if Quin really did hit a deer.
The main theme of this book is to always tell the truth no matter how much it might hurt you or your friends. In the book Laurie realized that Quin hit Analise and because of that she was in a coma for six months. If Laurie wouldn’t have come clean in the end of the story Analise’s family and boyfriend would have never known who would have killed their little angel. Jeremy was so devastated when he thought he would never know who hurt his girl. They planned on getting married and having kids together but because of Quin that could never happen. Jeremy said the next time he saw Quin walking through the halls he was going to walk up to him and punch him as hard as he could in the face. As Analise was floating up to heaven she said she could see into houses as if they were all just glass walls. She wished she could tell them she is happier now because she is in no pain and she can finally feel free and she will be with them again someday.
Jeremy who is Analise’s boyfriend had to build a desk for Quin’s dad Spencer. Laurie told Quin she knew he didn’t really hit a deer, he his Analise and she said if he didn’t go out with her she was going to tell the cops it was him and all of his baseball scholarship would be gone. Quin decided he could handle dating her for six months. He thought it wouldn’t be that long, but Quin thought Laurie was just so annoying. One day they were at Quin’s house and he got mad so he left, Laurie looked through his dad’s desk and there she found all of the documents of him getting the car fixed. She found all the information she needed pictured, documents, tire marks, and a serial number on the car. Laurie made the right choice and turned him in. She felt awful and she didn’t care who would hate her after, but she felt that she did the right thing and that’s all the matters. I was telling all my friends about this book because I thought it was just so amazing. Almost all of them said that they would want to read this book. I have read another book by this author before. Both of her books were very good but there is something about this book that just caught my interest. I Read half of this book in one day because I didn’t want to set by book down. While I read this book I shed a lot of laughs and some tears but all in all this book was absolutely amazing and I already have my next quarter book picked out and ready to read by the same author.
Jeremy carved,” I will miss you my little angle, I will be with you again someday and I promise you I will never love someone as much as I loved you.” Page 182. I chose this quote because when I read this I started to cry. It just makes me think that if this ever happened to me I would want someone to love me as much and Jeremy loves Analise. This book was just incredible, the author gave you many different emotions about what was going on and you felt that sometime you wanted Quin to get in trouble, and others you wanted no one to find out what happened. This book was full of suspense and just the words the author used amazed me! I want to read many more of her books because now I have read two of them I really love Lurlene McDaniel.
If I had to relate this book to me I would say that I lied to a friend once and I almost lost them as a friend because of it. I have learned that telling the truth and letting it out it much better and easier than trying to hide lies inside of you. I have learned from my friends and this book that lying is never the solution. It never solves anything, it just your problems even worse. This book has really touched me. It means a lot to me that Analise had such good friends and just everything she went through Jeremy still loved her and she seemed like a good person so people still loved her no matter how she look now. Everyone remember the good times they have spent with her, and if I ever pass away at a young age I want my friends, teachers, and family to remember me as a good student, and good person, and someone that they could always talk to. This is why I never want anybody to ever be mad at me, because even if I did nothing wrong there is guilt that hides inside of you and it feels like you are just dying from the inside out. I have to say I loved to book, and I normally will never admit that about a book. I actually do not like to read, but with this book it didn’t seem like I was reading it felt like I was just a person watching everything happen. So yes, I did enjoy this book because it just got me thinking. I want people to remember me for being a good person not bad and mean. After reading this story I’ve really been looking at myself with a bigger picture and I see and OK person but I want everyone to love me, so I am really striding to be as perfect as possible.

This book was okay but I'm not really into the depressing endings. This young girl is coming home from babysitting and these high school kids coming home from a party. On the way the high school kids hit the girl biking home which he thinks was just a deer. When the girl with the guy who were at the party discover what they really hit, she black mails him to date her so she can become popular. You figure this our pretty early so its not spoiling the ending but it's a pretty good book if you like...more
