We went on a bit of a Mo Willems binge tonight, reading 3 of his newer books. We found a couple of Elephant and Piggie books we hadn't read as well as this reading primer and we just had to read them all at once. Our girls had a friend sleeping over and we all had fun taking turns reading these books and playing the different parts. I like that it emphasizes the saying that "Where there's a will, there's a way."

This is a book for just beginning readers. Very few words with lots of repetition and illustrative action to help the reader along. Willems signature style in his pictures (which I think is cute). Not really a plot in this, but still something the young readers can follow along and relate to. Cute twist at the end.
Now my dilemma is if I'm able to add this to the books for beginners collection--there are no Easy Picture books there!

Mo Willems has a talent for making children laugh out loud. His newest series with Cat is no exception. The bold, legible fonts and balloon dialog box are great for children’s print awareness. The narrative is exploratory and funny. Simple and amazing!

I love the Mo Willems books! These Cat the Cat books though are right up there with Elephant & Piggie. Especially for younger children.
These books are great for infants to age 3, or I would also recommend them to children with developmental disabilities that are older.
Cat the Cat is friendly and funny! A real joy!

Mo Willems' new series about Cat the Cat is perfect for the very earliest readers who are still sounding out words and appreciate repetition. For the same reason, these books may appeal to toddlers. There's not much plot here, but Willems' illustrations add fun to the mix and make the story move.

This asks children to identify which animals are capable of flying. It's done tongue-in-cheek but isn't as amusing as some of Willem's other books-- but is better than most boring-tastic beginning readers. Elephant and Piggie might be funnier, but Cat the Cat is more practical for learning to read.

When Cat the Cat asks her friends Bee the bee, Bird the bird, and Bat the bat if they can fly, each one demonstrates his ability for her. As they wonder who else can fly, they come across Rhino the rhino. Surely he cannot fly? Mo Willems' latest series is a gem for early readers, who only have to read a mere sixteen different words to master this book. Although the vocabulary is extremely simple, the story is still delightful for young children, as are Mo's illustrations. Kids will excitedly poi

I know this is a forbidden word, but I can't help it: Cat the Cat is (gasp!) CUTE!!! She just is. And I had a nice giggle about the ending. Another nice book for the little ones or those working towards independence.

Another instant classic, for the youngest readers, from the funniest genius of the new century. Love the inclusion of Pigeon for the sharp-eyed - I'm tempted to see if he's in all the Cat the Cat books.

the "cat the cat" books are good early readers, not as good as Willems' "piggie & elephant" books, but Bug likes them just as much. this one has a funny little twist with rhinoceros, and it's always fun for Bug to find Pigeon hiding in the books.

Cat the Cat has many friends who can fly, like Bat the Bat and Bee the Bee. But what about Rhino the Rhino?
Another fun one from Mo Willems. Thumbs up!

I love Mo Willems young reader books. This series and Elephant & Piggie are excellent books for beginning readers. Cat from the Cat the Cat series is an enthusiastic, energized cat who makes the reader excited to read about Cat. Students will join along Cat as she introduces the reader to her friends.

Enjoyable for kids...an easy reader that doesn't read as dull as paint drying. Bright illustrations and fun characters add to appeal.

A very simple early reader, with repetitive text. Not quite as humorous as Elephant & Piggie, but, then again, what is?!

Eh. Still not that great, but it's better than Cat The Cat Who Is That. At least this one had a few fun illustrations.

Fabulous for very early readers. Jonas was so proud of himself for reading this. His first complete book.

I love Mo Willems, but this book was just okay. My 4-year-old daughter would give it 4 stars.

Such a cute book! I love seeing how the little cat will act when something completely random is thrown her way. The pictures are fun and bouncy, I can easily imagine the characters happily skipping across the pages as they go about their ways. This book has Mo Willem's typical sense of humor and I liked seeing the twist at the end - it made me smile. I would definitely recommend this book!
