"Happy Birthday to You!" by Dr. Seuss is typical of the more mediocre Seuss books, "Wacky" and endlessly droning, tedious to read.
You're going to the birthday party of a 4 year old you don't know really well, but you know he likes books and his parents are nerds. This seems like a great gift, right? That's how we received it. My four year old stopped opening presents to lavish attention on several books he received and had to be prodded gently to return to what he was doing. After present openin...more

1. This book is about a city called Katroo, where birthdays are very special and celebrated differently. The birthday bird comes in and escorts the little boy out for his birthday celebration. It is a fantasy and fiction book where amazing adventure are waiting for you.
2. Even though it is quite wordy, I think this is a great book to read to a class. It shows rhymes and I think it instills creativity in a child. Students can try to write out rhymes of their own, and it can be silly words that a...more

Picture Book 8: I loved dr. seuss when I was little and still love his books! I really don't think that their are any dr. seuss books out there that I don't like. This book in particular I liked because it teaches kids to love their birthdays. Also, I thought it was funny that when dr.seuss wanted to rhyme he just made up a word. I would recommend any dr.seuss books to any little kid they are very enjoyable and entertaining to read!

I gave Happy Birthday to You! a two because the story is not one that is likely to engage young readers. The illustrations are very colorful and they help to move the text along. And the rhyming pattern throughout the book is very predictable which is good for young readers. The pages don't have more than ten lines of words. As an early reader it fits the criteria of a good book. But the content is so specific that I do...more

With all of the typical zaniness of his usual writing style, Dr. Seuss has turned the spotlight on the single day of the year that belongs to oneself more than any other: One's birthday.
Energetic and fun, Happy Birthday to You! is, more than anything else, about appreciating the uniqueness of oneself and being content with what that means. As it is put in one of the final lines of the book, "There is no one alive who is you-er than you!"

I am very fond of traditions. Every Saturday morning was pancake morning at my house and every Thanksgiving my family shared things we were thankful for before feasting the night away. Creating classroom traditions are just as important as the ones we share with our loved ones at home. On each students' birthday, I want to read this book! Each student should know how important they are to our class family. While I read this book, the other students will prepare a kind statement for the Birthday...more

I had to give this book a two at the most. The beginning of book, sure it catches your attention with all the colorful pictures. However, I am not sure it can keep the attention of a young reader as you continue to read the book. After reading all the rhymes it has, as a reader, I lost my train of thought. I completely forgot as to what the point of the book was. Dr. Seuss has written some amazing books, but I have to say this is not his best work.
This is a typically zany Dr. Seuss - with the topic this time being birthdays (your's in particular!).
As always love the rhyme, rhythm and illustrations.
I'm conflicted about this book..
On the one hand it is extremely self-affirming.
On the other it reinforces the 'prince/princess for a day' extremely excessive birthday parties.

Oh, what could be more wonderful than a birthday??? This darling little Seuss book is perfect for any child old enough to sit through this many pages...especially when their birthday is near! Oh, the joy! (This is, however, one of the Seuss books that contains humans, and...sigh!...yes, the star of the birthday is white. But it's still a great book.)
Remember...there is no one, no, NO one who's you-er than you!

My boy got this book for his birthday and I have really enjoyed reading it to him every day since. It's about a magical place where birthday celebrations last all day, cost several thousand dollars and are carried out by the birthday bird. It's a bit long, but I'm all about expanding the kids' attention span. We have yet to read this without giggling.

Definitely a read aloud, particularly at the end of the year to celebrate all birthdays, maybe have a party for the entire class. It will engage all students because we all have birthdays! The illustrations are very vivid which also helps keep them engaged. This story can also be used to show students rhyming patterns in text. It can be an easy read a loud or story for beginning readers because of the repetition in Dr. Seuss books children love. throughout the book is very predictable which is g...more
I hears this book when a mother came in and read the book to the class for her sons birthday and dr. Suess's birthday. I think this would be a great book to read on every students birthday becaue it can make them feel special. And also that reading books over and over again helps students learn words and writing so re reading this book would improve childrens vocabulary and writing.
This book was a gift to me on my 2nd birthday. As a military brat, I have frequently moved through the years so the chances of still holding something from my childhood grow slimmer by the years. I treasure this book and am proud to have it on my shelf. I read it every birthday and glee with the same joy as I did in my childhood. It is still the same treasure.
This is a great book. I love the rhymes, they are so much fun to read, you can really get a kick out of their wackiness. The illustrations are pretty comical as well. And since it is a Dr. Seuss book, it is pretty zany. I'd definitely recommend this book.

This is a fun Dr. Suess book that I would like to keep handy in my classroom for when my students have birthdays. I would keep in on special birthday reserve and allow students to take it to their desk and read it on their birthday. It is very fun and exciting with great illustrations! It also makes the one with the birthday feel very special!
This wonderful Dr. Seuss books includes innovative vocabulary (as most Dr. Seuss books ) and rhyming patters. There are about 2-6 sentence paragraphs per two opened pages. The story explains what happens in Katoo when it is your birthday. It is very cute and could be read to make children feel really special on thier special day.
"Today you are you! that is truer than true! there is no one alive who is you-er than you! shout loud, i am lucky to be what i am! Thank goodness i'm not just a clam or a ham or a dusty old jar of sour gooseberry jam! I am what i am! that's a great thing to be! If i say so myself, happy birthday to me!"
In the land of Katroo on your birthday a one-of-a-kind Birthday Bird comes and takes you away for an all out celebration! A great gift book for birthdays.
Red flag: there are two pictures in which a boy's backside is shown naked or partially naked.

This would be a great book to read for each student on their birthday to make them feel special. Awesome self to text book to help students see that everyone has birthdays and they should be celebrated. Nice to use for k-3.
