Time itself is splintering. If the catastrophic consequences of time travel are now impossible to ignore, Lord Luxon only has eyes for its awesome possibilities. He has his sights set on no lesser prize than America. Abducted to 1763, Peter and Kate begin to understand that history has arrived at its tipping point. Adrift in time, Kate transforms into an oracle, able to se...more

3 1\2 stars. The last book in the Time Travelers trilogy. I love this series to bits and the end was very disappointing. Love\hate relationship between me and this book. I love all the characters. Except Lord Luxon. But even he is written brilliantly. The book itself is my least favorite of the series but the ending.... I hate the ending.

Hate it. The rubbish, even though well-written, made me very angry. I question why she chose to write it that way. REAL ending must have gotten lost in editing...more

Trilogies from the outset raise expectations. The reader expects the story to be so epic in scope that a mere single volume would never maintain its magnitude. It also creates anticipation for a climax that will eclipse the cliff-hanging endings of the two previous volumes. The Time Quake comes close to achieving these feats but falters in its final moments, betraying the impeccably detailed logic laid out throughout this engaging series. The resolution is a bit of an afterthought and convenient...more

This is a review for the entire trilogy.

The Gideon Trilogy is a well-told story that keeps you coming back for more. I had a hard time putting the books down, especially the first two. Buckley-Archer is compared to J.K Rowling. I wouldn't go THAT far, but it is a good, entertaining story.

The character development is decent. I read this trilogy after reading the amazing 100 Cupboards Trilogy which has phenomenal character development, so try as I may, it was hard to...more

I won't lie, I picked up The Time Travelers, part one in the Gideon trilogy, mainly because it had awesome cover art. James Jean is such a deadly awesome artist, and I was so excited that he'd illustrated a middle school book, I just had to read it.

As a first book, The Time Travelers was a bit cumbersome. The story was a lot of fun and I was digging the characters, but I found her style was a bit stilted. It was almost as if she was attributing a 7 year olds' way of reading to her 9-13 year old...more

"Apakah semua keteraturan sudah tercabut dari dunia ini?" seru Tar Man
"Apakah alam telah sakit parah?"

Apa jadinya jika anda ingin mengubah sebuah sejarah?

I’m not a big fan of time travel stories and, as a rule, I generally avoid them. Time travel is fraught with a host of problems which this book does not shy away from: There are the risks of creating multiple parallel timelines, and the possibility that time will collapse under the stress of these events. I feel that my general dislike of this type of story has resulted in what sounds like a negative revie...more

The Time Quake starts when Lord Luxon goes to modern New York and loves it. He meets an American historian who innocently tells him how to best sabotage the Revolutionary War. In europe, Anjali helps Tom recover. In 1763, Gideon refuses to accept that he and the Tar Man are brothers! He fights with the Tar Man. The first time quake happens, because time is being messed up. Then, the party storms the Tar Man's house. Gideon finally accepts that the Tar Man and he are brothers. The Tar Man injures...more

The Time Quake is the third and final book of the Gideon Trilogy, and I'm so sad that it's over. I enjoyed this series so much and I'm shocked that it wasn't more popular with the kids.

I was lucky to get my hands on the audio book version; I ended up having to request it from another library in this state. It's so good to listen to and was totally worth it!

Admittedly, this was my least favorite of the three books, only because the reader not only follows Peter and Kate, but also Lord Luxon, the...more

First off, there was so much time in between my reading of the second book and this one, that I couldn't remember everything that had previously happened. I should have re-read book 2 just prior to reading the third one. Now, having said that, I did find myself struggling to focus throughout this book. Things kept jumping around in it and there were "time warps" or jumps of train of thought, or glitches in the writing so things were unclear to me, the reader. At least that is my opinion. Maybe I...more

I liked the book, and I liked the way the story ended, with one long heartstring tug that was well done and never turned sappy. I just felt that the focus from book one was changed abruptly partway through the trilogy - probably at the same time the first book was reissued with a title change from Gideon the Cutpurse to The Time Travelers. I kept waiting for Gideon to take center stage again, and he didn't. In some ways that's a shame, because the eighteenth century is the author's forte much mo...more

Disappointing to say the least. In this book the author didn't research properly and there is a major glaring mistake about the past. Change what she did and it wouldn't work out the way she had it. I was also disappointed with the end. All the good done was lost. And there was far too much technical/scientific information which drove me nuts, when all I wanted to do was carry on with the adventure. I also have these 3 books on audio tape and won't bother reading or listening to this particular...more

I nice conclusion to the series.

I found that this book wasn't all as flashy as I had expected it to be, with the action and plot going way over the roof. It was a calm, good ending to the series

Honestly this is one of those series that I enjoyed reading but just wouldn't buy for my personal library. In my opinion it was good enough to read once, but totally not to be read more than that.
This can't even compare to Harry Potter like one of the professional reviews suggest - Harry Potter is more in...more

The final volume in this trilogy didn't grab me quite as much as the first two. Perhaps it had been so long between books that I lost the connection a bit.

But it is still a great series. Two plot twists make this one interesting: Lord Luxon's plot to undo the American Revolution and Gideon and the Tar Man being forced to work together.

I found the Time Quake aspect of the story a little thin at times, and the "science" behind the technology sometimes seems to slow the story down, but quest to get...more

Ooooh, I liked this one. It was a further continuation of the story and the implications of books one and two. Fits well in the series. Reading it as an American, I had a few gasp moments. Turns out I'm pretty loyal to my country. There were a few moments that were like the equivalent of nationalistic mom jokes, the author did a really good job with them. I can't remember the last English book I read that made me conscious of being an American. (except obviously when everyone always shouts oi!)

I liked this conclusion to the trilogy: though it had its boring moments, I found the end satisfying. I thought this series would have been better with only two books: it simply went on too long. Many of the characters were frustratingly one-dimensional (Gideon, Dr. Dyer, even Kate and Peter), and some were downright annoying (Dr. Piretti). Tom and The Tar Man were two of the more three-dimensional characters. The themes related to science, history, and time were compelling and thought provoking...more

While this book contains some truly extraordinary ideas and scenes, I found it to be a somewhat disappointing conclusion to an otherwise strong trilogy. Peter and Kate are still stuck in the 18th century, and while the Tar Man is still a major threat to their health and eventual return to the 21st century, it is Lord Luxon who serves as the super-villain this time around.

Buckley-Archer has developed a more sophisticated take on time travel in this installment, exploring both its physical and eth...more

Fiuh... Trilogi yg satu ini akhirnya berhasil ditamatkan setelah ditunda-tunda bacanya selama bertahun-tahun. Aku tdk begitu suka dgn ending-nya, soalnya (view spoiler)[tdk ada kejelasan seperti apakah hubungan antara Tar Man dan Gideon setelah semuanya kembali ke titik nol, apakah Tar Man pada akhirnya akan berbaikan dgn Gideon? Apakah Gideon akhirnya akan mengetahui b...more

What the first two novels of this series did--create an entertaining and complex while age-appropriate story about time travel--this conclusion does not. Firstly, the author creates far too many new problems to be solved satisfactorily in this one book. As a result, the ending is abrupt and too simplified for what I felt the conflicts warranted. While the conclusion does make sense, it is not satisfying and it does not ring true in light of all the complex problems that sprung from the character...more

If I could give half stars, 3.5 stars. As other reviewers have noted, I would have probably done better rereading book 2, or at least skimming it, before starting this one. At times I struggled to remember events from the previous book that would make better sense of some scenes on first read.

Lord Luxon is a less compelling bad guy than the Tar Man. The evil he does is more interesting than the man he is. He strikes me as extremely self-centered rather than having a burning vendetta that drives...more

If I could give this series 4.5 stars I would.

Unlike most series this one got better with each successive book. I am glad that I decided to read them all.

The books became less predictable as the series continued and while I was hoping for an ultimate happy ending there was no way to make it anything except bittersweet. Still, it was a satisfying conclusion and putting the book down seemed like a real shame.

This series is definitely going on the shelf in my classroom and I am going to keep a lo...more
