Hmmm. This is now the fifth J S Fletcher I’ve read, and I don’t know whether I’ve just read too many of them in quick succession, but I wasn’t as impressed with this one. Partly because it is suffering from a big case of recycling (or the previous ones I’ve read have been recycled from this) and also because the ending and solution were just rubbish, after all the complexity and building up, to finish like that…hmm. It did feel a times as though it was dragging as they kept throwing even more ...more

Another enjoyable mystery from Fletcher...all things considered. Written almost one hundred years ago, but threaded with humor and colorful characters. I think I have enjoyed about three of these "oldies" and abandoned a couple of them as too archaic for me. Free from amazon, so all the better to try.

The Herapath Property, written almost 100 years ago, is a complex British murder mystery, peopled with colorful characters. But the ending was somewhat of a letdown, especially after having enjoyed several other of Fletcher's much more intriguing endings. I listened to this as a free audio book, downloaded from

Joseph Smith Fletcher was a British journalist, writer, and fellow of the Royal Historical Society. He studied law before turning to journalism.

His literary career spanned approximately 200 books on a wide variety of subjects including fiction, non-fiction, histories, historical fiction, and mysteries. He was known as one of the leading writers of detective fiction in the Golden Age .
