Smart Couples Finish Rich is one of about six titles in the David Bach personal finance series which also includes a collection of workbooks to help people reach their financial goals. Bach also gives lectures and workshops on the subject. All he needs now is a show on CNBC...

A financial book getting 4/5 starts? WTF? It surprises even me. And I think it's safe to say that five years ago I would NEVER have dreamed of picking this book up. But now that I'm in my mid-twenties, married for more than three years, and have a career, I'm suddenly very interested in not living so dirt poor.
But still I don't care a great deal about finances. At least, not enough to read most financial books. But Bach does a nice job of keeping the information light and relevant. An...more

I was leery of this book since it sounded suspiciously like a self help book. However, it actually helped me immensely. My family is weird about money and so I had a lot of hangups about it when my husband and I first got married. Reading this book honestly changed my life because it made me assess some of my values regarding finances and it helped me understand where our money was going and how we should be saving it. I'm really glad I read it when I was only 22. As a result I encouraged my hus...more

Obviously this book is directed towards couples. Yes you can read it as an individual. Great read IMO. It really details what the next step in life will entail. The pitfalls/successes of both the author and readers are shared. IF anything you will understand how important it is to be patient involving someone else in your new found togetherness. You may learn more than your willing to accept about your partner as well. Lol The only thing it is lacking is the instructions to get your part...more

David Bach's approach to finance management is both sensible and sage. I enjoyed reading this book and appreciated that he put in stories to make it go easier. So many self-help books can be dry and un-entertaining, but this was wasn't. I would highly recommend this to any couples seeking help getting finances, insurance, etc in order. I would imagine Bach's other books are also good--a friend of mine attended one of his "Smart Women Finish Rich" seminars and really enjoyed it.

This was a great book for helping us to get all of our financial stuff in order and to know what was important to keep and what wasn't. I liked the other David Bach books I read as well. Easy to read and so informative. I liked the style it was written in and I didn't feel like he was busy trying to sell me on the way he did things the whole time I was reading. (I've felt that way with other financial books that I've read.)

This book really made a huge difference in how Jason and I manager our finances. It's all about creating a financial plan that's consistent with your top values (rather than just the "stuff" you want), and then how to work together to achieve your goals. It also doesn't make you feel like a loser if your finances are screwed up. The basic message is that it's never too late to get your finances in order!!

We read this book shortly after we got married and it proved to be a really useful road map for us. It has taken us years to implement some of the things on the "must-do" list that we created after reading the book, but it gave us great direction and goals to work toward. I find myself returning to the book every time I have questions about what we're doing with our finances (which is quite often).

I only gave this two stars, because my husband loved it. He wrote notes from it and did all the exercises. I couldn't really get into it. I just kind of skimmed it. It was written for people with little investing/savings experience, and although we were newlyweds and just merging our finances, it wasn't where we were starting from, so I found it boring and oversimplified.

I wish I had read this book when I first got married. I gave this five stars because the time I read it was a critical financial time for my husband and me. He read it too, and it has really helped us understand what our financial goals should be and how we can achieve them. It was a very understandable book. The author is widely known and has recently been on Oprah.

There is some crucial information in the middle of this book which all couples must read, understand and follow. I'd give this book a higher rating but over a third of this book is repeat. The repeat is necessary if the reader isn't familiar with Bach's Automatic Millionaire, so if you want to read this and haven't read A.M. go do so first then come back to this.

This book is very easy to read.
I read this book in 2005 and learned so much about different ways to handle my money and prioritize what I need and what I want. I let my sister borrow it; she took notes.
I flip through it every once and a while. The hardest part is taking action.Making the appointment to met with a financial planner is the hardest part.

wow. I read a self-help financial book. and you CAN TOO! just kidding. I give it 4 stars because the book did pay for itself with its advice on checking accounts. I don't have comparisons to other financial books, but this seemed to give the basics, wasn't hard to understand. Gives some hope, or at least perspective, on ever retiring.

Yes, the title sounds hokey but it's one of the most practical money inspirational books I've ever read! Very easy to read and offers immediately useful tips (like how to organize your financial filing cabinet). I actually enjoyed reading this book and I plan to reread and reread as I get myself organized and more serious about my finances.

This book was great. One page alone helped me significantly- how to organize your financial paperwork. Everything else was great- this book is not a "how to get rich" book, but rather how to manage your finances in order to live in accordance with your values. Even if you are not a "couple", you can greatly benefit from this book.

any young couple who cares about what happens to their money
Lots of great info - I had to take notes as I was going through. Somethings might be impossible if you are already a thrifty person - if you aren't buying a latte everyday, its impossible to eliminate that from your spending - but there was definitely details on types of investments that would be worthwhile to everyone.

I love these books - they aren't difficult to read. They have great steps that really organize you and make sense when you are trying to put it all together. They don't expect you to do the impossible. They ask you to do what you can do. It will stretch you, but it's a great book and one to be followed!

Bach has some great advice about managing your financial future. His organizational tips alone are worth the price of the book. I would highly recommend any of his "blah blahs finish rich" series - the advice is basically the same in all of them, so you can read whatever version best appeals to you.

This book helped put things in perspective. Its totally not about getting rich quick, its about retiring with enough money to be comfortable, about planning your finances around what you consider to be important, and about getting the finances in order. Simple to read, easy to apply. Very good book.
