The New Kid is so over the top with cliches that it is up in space, orbiting the moon. I knew coming in, after reading my friend’s review, that the book would be full of cliches. However, knowing it is one thing, reading it — experiencing it — was another. It was a head-tilting-back, eyes-popping-out type of experience.

Will Hunter is no stranger to moving. He has been to five schools in three years. You might think his parents are the ones uprooting him all the time, but you'd be wrong.
Will is a demon hunter like his father and grandfather before him. He has developed a way of making enough money to support his development of new weapons while at the same time providing a cover for his mother being "transferred" wherever he needs to go next.

What. Did I just read. No. I can't even begin to write this review without sounding like a psycho path. My eyeballs are bleeding from all the similes.
Let me tell you about Will. He's the most: kick-butt, smart, good looking, stylish, humble (ha), nice, and abused sixteen year old boy around. Every girl is drawn to him, every guy hates him, and he's going to save the world.

Wow, this book was terribly cliche, I had to skim most of the middle. I am really glad I did because the ending, oh the horrible ending.
Let's meet Will Hunter the main character who is a super secret 16 year old. He is super rich, super smart, and is a super bad ass.
Will is also super humble, super nice, and super shy.
Um, what?
Yes we have a male version of the Mary Sue, is there a name for them?

What I like about this book is the plot. We have a boy who is a teenage demon hunter. How cool is that? Plus along the way he finds a very cute girl and a sidekick. Although things don't always seem what they are, he fight for what is right. Will Hunter has know since his thirteenth birthday who he is. He moves form town to town hunting down demons living up to his father's legacy. Until he finds out what that legacy.

That's really 3.5 stars. This book was fairly interesting. Will Hunter's story takes on a different view of "Demon Hunters", very different in fact from Cassandra Clare's "Shadowhunters". The action was pretty steady and exciting but i felt the love story, the connection between Will and Natalie, was lacking. I liked Will's and Rudy's, his dorky friend turned semi-sidekick, characters the best. While some parts seemed a little slow and some just moved too fast, leaving no room from build up and...more
I didn't actually expect that much from this book. Yes, the premise is strange. And yes, the cover is truly fabulous. But still, I didn't expect the "wow" factor in this book, and I was pleasantly surprised.

The synopsis of this book reminded of another one at the beggining, but there was something about this story that made me wanted to read it and see for myself it they were so alike... The New Kid took me by surprise!!! I really wasn't sure what to expect. I knew the synopsis sounded intriguing and I was looking forward to reading it but honestly didn't psych myself up about it. The first chapter down and I was hooked! I started reading at 2am this morning and finished it tonight (8:00PM).

Sometimes, moving is a good thing. Especially in Will's situation. What he does requires him to move all the time, and he's not always especially happy about it. To keep the ones he cares about the most alive, though, he has too. And that, makes for the beginning of an awesome book. Just moving in, he knows how everything goes. This book is recommended for boys aged 12 to 16 years but I think it will suit any gender between them ages. Its very fast paced and full of action. There where loads of fighting scenes, which I'm sure is entertaining to teenage boys. (I wouldn't know not being one myself). There where some very clichéd parts to this book, which I found disappointing but wasn't really expecting much from this book. Some scenes are described really good but I did find others lacking and rather pointless. It was a...more

Will Hunter is starting over at a new school again. He does it all the time, he’s used to being ‘the new kid’, but Will isn’t the average new kid. He’s got weapons, cash, a fast car, and he knows how to fight. Unfortunately he also has people who follow him around looking for a fight.

While I like the concept of Will Hunter, nothing surprised me. I wasn't diappointed, I just wasn't moved. I didn't fall in love with the character, push for his victory or want to be in his shoes, and could care less about his love interest and the frustration of the pursuit of fruition. With that said, there were very likable elements, especially the neat gadgets and fast cars. Love the video game aspect too. However, I have a sinking feeling, the commercialism is what inspired and fueled the s...more

BORING! I wanted to like it but was put off by the fact that this author feels the need to tap into what he thinks young people say and how they act. Give it up because you are so wrong. Especially that a 16 year old person is not going to call someone an a..hole. They would use the whole word. And if you have to write that to keep it a young adult book then you should just stop writing that genre. Tell it as though it would happen. Stop trying to be "hip" to the younger generation. A YA novel about a boy who is, by day, just the New Kid in school, but by night is one of the most talented demon hunters alive. He falls in love with a girl named Natalie, therefore exposing her to the dangers of his existence. When Will was young, he witnessed the Dark Lord come and take his father. Natalie's twin had also been abducted by the evil forces, so the two of them join together in a mission to rescue their loved ones. Plenty of blood, guts, gore, gas, and vomit along the way...

The New kid there has been many new kids in school and Will Hunter is not an ordinary guy. Will is a demon hunter trying to get revenge on the Dark Lord (the Devil) for killing his father at age eight. The story continues. My favorite character is Natalie because she was a great person she never gave up to look for her sister she was really nice and smart. The best part of this book was when there was action going on and the details were making a visual picture in your mind.

Okay I'll admit it: I was at the book store and I had enough for one book. I couldn't choose what to pick and didn't see anything I wanted, so... naturally I picked the book with a cute guy on the cover. Only I hadn't realized how creepy this book really would be. It was "Ok" through out most of the book, but nearing the end it started to just weird me out. I finished it, but don't plan to ever pick it up again.
I DON'T recommend this book to anyone.
Heed my warning... DON'T READ THIS BOOK

What do I think? I think I got confused somewhere. This started off rather humourous, but as I got toward the middle of the book, I just couldn't read it anymore.
What the hell was going on? This is what I understood about the plot...
Will was some Demon hunter that was after a particular Demon because said Demon kidnapped his dad...right? Right. However, this particular Demon was after some crazy weapon/device to take over the world, that Will was now in possession of...right? Right.

Just finished The New Kid by Temple Mathews which I got from Netgalley and I enjoyed it. I will say that normally paranormal isn't something that I gravitate too and this was actually the first book that I have read which dealt with demons so I didn't know what I was getting into.
Will is obviously the New Kid and has to move around a lot for his own reasons of demon hunting. His father has been taken and he wants to find him and the Dark Lord. He also meets Natalie who has had her twin sister t...more
I have to be honest and say that I truly did not have high expectations for this book. I can’t really explain why. I hadn’t (and still haven’t) read any other reviews of it, but it definitely exceeded my expectations.
It was a nice change of pace to read from a guy’s perspective. I know they’re more prevalent than they used to be, and I’ve been reading The Chronicles of Nick series, so it’s not like I’m unfamiliar with reading from a guy’s perspective, but female leads still dominate the YA genr...more
