Picked this up in a used book store... in Bangkok! (how's that for cosmopolitian?) Anyway, I ended up enjoying this even more than I expected, and the characters and the story have stayed with me a bit. The daughter suffers from diabetes and I was most moved by the scene where she has yet again forgotten to take her insulin and doesn't want the hero to tell her mom... his response to her, and especially when he points out that she's actually lucky in that she has the option to control her diseas...more

For Grace Hart, single mother and Family and Juvenile Court judge, solving other people's problems is easier than solving her own. Her daughter Jessica has just been diagnosed with diabetes, is struggling with maintaining the disease and Jessica begins sneaking out and experimenting with alcohol and drugs as well as running with a fast crowd. When the police are called for a break in at Grace's house that coincides with one of Jessica's sneak-outs, Detective Tony Marino clashes with Grace but ev...more

One of my favorite novels by Karen Robards, about judge Grace Hart, her semi-wayward teenage daughter Jessica, and the cop, Tony Marino, who becomes involved in both their lives when he brings Jessica home after finding her in a troublesome situation. When a stalker begins focusing on the two Hart women, Grace calls on Tony. I like Karen Robards combination of romance and suspense, and this was a good one. A fast, fun read, a hot romance, and an interesting twist at the end.

It was a little predictable once you figured out Grace's secret, but knowing how it ends has never impeded my enjoyment of a good story - "It's the journey that matters, not the destination."

And honestly, I felt like the "moth" was a little out of place. The sentiment was sweet, but the manifestation was unnecessary. I don't actually believe in ghosts, so unless they're the centre of a story, I don't really see a place for them. Plus, actual moths give me the creeps...more

A slightly different twist to the usual romantic suspense that Robards writes- the woman isn't shockingly beautiful, and her teenage daughter is pushing her limits. Finally, a female lead I can relate to! I enjoyed this one as a fun summer read.
Wendy Mitchell
One of her best. Both main characters are battling severe issues and what ensues is a hilarious ride to the end. Love her books, but this one was more offbeat because of the archtypical hero and heroine.
Natasha
The joys of having a teenage daughter as a single parent. Both romantic and very suspenseful. There are twist and turns you wouldn't expect.
Alberta
An excellent weekend at the beach book. Although you have an idea of the 'bad' guy there still is a surprise.

Good mystery/romance. The romance part is a bit predictable, but I needed a light read and this provided it. I will definitely read more books by this author.

This was the first book I've ever read by Karen Robards and it was really good. The ending had a great twist that I didn't expect at all!
