How To Disappear Completely wasn't all that interesting a story in my opinion, but Bowick makes it a blast to read. I was laughing out loud within the first minute of reading it.
After proposing to his girlfriend and being reject, the main character, Josh, is left to figure out what he really wants out of life. He quickly meets another woman and experiences quite the series of adventures before the story ends, but as I said before, it's the writing that makes this story truly entert...more

This book was not as described in the description when I got it off line for my e-book. I did enjoy the first 100 pages but then the story just started going down hill. I will give the author credit that even though the story was going down he is a good enough author that keeps you reading. He does a very good job at describing things in a unique way that seem very strange but yet very appropriate to the situation. For example.

Despite the impression the title may give you, this book isn't about how to disappear, rather it is about how to reappear after life's twisted ways punch you in the gut a few times after getting off a roller-coaster, and to get through it standing. I enjoyed the way David Bowick told josh's story, and i was surprised when i remembered the story only walks you through a few days of his life. this book made me want to have a better relationship with my shower, and visit boston and walk the streets...more
I started this book not knowing exactly what I was reading thinking it was comedy. By the time I realised what I got into, It too late, This bastard tricked my into reading Romance. The first few chapters did have their funny moments then the story slowly started to take a slightly different direction.
The Author teased us a bit with what fact Josh seemed to be able to see into the future (dreaming about things before they happen). This was a bit out of place for the type of story this...more

My favorite thing about books is that, regardless of genre, at some point in the story, I learn something that helps me understand life. (yes, dramatic, I know... hehe!)
This is my favorite quote from David's book.
"We can only just try to control our own lives, that because our lives are so hopelessly entangled in the choices of others, we can never have full control over our destiny or fate or purpose or whatever you want to call it."

Really easy to read - in fact the story is simple enough that, reading it on my iPod whenever I found myself with nothing else to do, I never lost track of the storyline and what had happened the last time I picked up my iPod for a short 10-minute read.
Although it was admittedly predictable towards the middle of the book, I still read on simply because Bowick made a story as simple as this so much fun to read! At times it was completely hillarious. I loved the satire in the book.

How To Disappear Completely initially garnered my attention--as I'm sure it does many--by the title. So let's just clarify that this is a fictional story about a cynical yet slightly charming guy named Josh, awash in a cruel mix of fate and largely self-imposed mediocrity. No forged documents, identity theft, underground black markets.. absolutely nothing of the sort. The title is actually a reference to the song of the same name by Radiohead, track number 4 off the Kid A album.

The title of this book is what enticed me to read it and having just finished; I question whether the author’s choice suited the story as it doesn’t seem to correspond significantly enough, in my opinion.
Though the plot isn’t mind blowing, the writer’s comical style and interesting ways of presenting things, I thoroughly enjoyed. For me, the book filled its purpose: that was to have a light, relaxing read after having just finished a book which I found fairly taxing on the concentra...more

I just finished this book after a quick read and I really liked it. There is a lot here in these reviews that I could echo, but mostly that David Bowick made this a really enjoyable read. He takes you into the world of a seemingly average, everyday 20-something male who works at Starbucks and draws you in so that you WANT to know what happens to him. It's an average story with an above average way of telling it.
It was a very enjoyable reading, untill it got boring after page 66 and I simply scrolled through the rest just to satisfy my curiosity as to what happened to the engagement ring. The first part of it was easy to read with all the well-known brand names popping up here and there. Then all of a sudden it turned into BH 90210 drama and the vivid fresh off the streets language didn't alleviate the dullness of it.
Nevertheless, the small volume took me in for a few hours.

This book had plenty of interesting twists and turns, but it sometimes didn't flow very well, causing some confusion as to what was going on. Also, the formatting didn't work on my Nook, which means that words were cut in half or thirds, and sentences mashed together... which also made it difficult to read. However, formatting and flow aside, once I got the hang of reading the story it was a funny read!
It's rare, somehow, that I hear a voice in a book as being real enough that I can imagine meeting the person attached to it, but I am doing just that in this book. I find myself slowing down my reading to make the book last just a little bit longer. I enjoyed it, but the target audience is probably younger people more likely to have lives and feelings similar to the protagonist.
I must learn the lesson of not judging books by their covers or titles. I thought this was going to be much better than it actually was. I disliked the main character and his arrogance, and I disliked much of what happened in the book. Throughout the book I was planning on rating it one star, but the ending kind of redeemed it and so here I am, rating it two stars. Bravo.

Recommends it for:
people tired of chick lit and want something real to read about relationships
This book was really good. I really felt for the characters and the story. It was real, something that actually happens all the time and the author got it down to a T. I read it as an ebook and aside from the very few misspellings I really really enjoyed it. Everyone needs to read this book and find others like it that are not so mainstream style stories. You'll be in for a real surprise.
This was a good little book. I downloaded it from Feedbooks for my ipod and it's a quick read with a weird yet sweet love story. I think it is by a young author who has a good sense of suspense and storytelling. I also feel this author has a lot of potential and I'd like to check out his future work.
Great story told from the man's POV -- unusual (in my reading tastes) for me.
One of the BEST opening lines of any book I've ever read -- it set the tone for the story. I laughed, cringed, and shook my head along with the MMC and totally want to name my next dog Satan.

The story is not really good nor particulary interesting, but David's style is cunning, caustic and very original.
It's not often that I like a book almost only because of its author's style, so take it as a compliment: it's a pretty good book !

I found this book incredibly entertaining.
You read the whole book to understand the first scenes he describes in the first chapter. His sarcastic style is amazing and makes you live the story as if you were there...

I think unless Mr. Tolstoy comes up with something better than this scruffy "War and Peace" attempt, he doesn't have much of a future as an author.

There was nothing really stand out about this book. I did enjoy it but it was kind of like a window into someones day to day life, no action or drama really to be had.
The book was excellent! Being a bit cliche in my explanation, but it did shed some light on the small stuff that can really change our interactions with people we think we know.
I was chuckling at the immediate start of the book and was surprised at how fast the read was! I will be purchasing a hard copy because i think this is one for the bookshelf!

Well-written, simple, entertaining modern love story. Perfect length for reading a few pages here and there as time permits. (Read in e-book format)
This book was amazing. I love the writing style and how the book basically had a "soundtrack". Loved it! :)
I don't really know how I feel about the story, but the writing was excellent and kept me reading till it was done.
I really enjoyed this! It was a quick read and a well-told story, nice and easy to digest.
I picked up the book to just read before bed time, thinking I probably would get bored and then get sleepy. And then I could not put it down. I felt as though I was listening to a male friend of mine telling me about his rather messy love life, with a touch of humor when he gets obsessed with some details. And I wanted to find out more. I grew a care for him because he is like your best friend who is in a bit of trouble. Not much, just a bit. And he is definitely not perfect.

Not a genre I usually read, but an entertaining romance tale from the male perspective.
Time-pass, the book to read if u got a couple of hours to kill on a boring Monday!
