This book picks up with the whole family now in on the demon hunting. It was fun to see Stuart join in and battle. He always seemed like such a suit that I never really thought he could handle getting dirty like this.

As always there is craziness in Kate's life and it just doesn't stop. Allie really seemed to step up and grow up a lot in this book, she really faced some situations that even knowing about demons, she shouldn't have to face. In the end she made the right decisions.

Laura really step...more

First let me mention that although this series started almost as a teen read, the series is now located on the adult shelves at my library, mainly because of the sex theme running in the background. Well - usually in the background. However, the love is that - love - and not just there to fill more pages, so it works.

Our heroine, Kate, is running ragged because of her family and her demon hunting, which they are all, except the baby, involved in. Her teen daughter has some skills with the whole...more

I picked this up because I was waiting for AAA to come tow my car, in short, I had time to kill. That's a pretty good assessment of this book, a good way to pass the time. It's not something I stayed up all night to finish and immediately went out to find the other books in the series.

Kate Connor is a Vatican sanctioned demon slayer. Not the cool kind but a suburban mom to a 2 yr. old with a penchant for destruction and a 14 yr. old daughter who's eager to follow in her mom's footsteps.

One elem...more

Julie Kenner is one of my favorite authors, even though I admittedly haven't read a ton by her. The Kate Connor series is fun. The description is dead on. Wife, mother... demon hunter. It's like a chick-lit with demons. Buffy the vampire slayer as an adult. If Mercy Thompson from the Patricia Briggs Series is a girls I'd like to go hang out with a drinks beers with. Kate Connor is the girl I've been friends with for years. We got older together, she got married and had kids and now when we get t...more

I was a little disappointed in this book. This is the first one I have read rather than listened to. Allie's 15th birthday is approaching, Stuart has taken the demon hunting to heart and wants to go out patroling and Eric has a demon growing in him, a demon that's been with him from birth and that he has always known about. Kate is very torn. She loves Stuart dearly and knows that he is her husband now, but she isn't going to let a demon kill Eric. The plot was interesting, the prose well writte...more

Seriously? How can it end like that?

I didn't like this one as much as the others, and I can't put my finger on why. Maybe it's just getting too repetitive? I love the plot and characters, but these demons are starting to get annoying. Each one of them talk like they're from a bad horror movie and how many of these "unstoppable demons" are there? This is book 5 and each one has had a revelation of "Oh they can't be killed, unless you find this magical weapon!" How is Kate still surprised by this...more

I am only a few chapters in, but this is really not any good so far. The main character is not terribly likable, and her weird love triangle seems contrived. Perhaps it is because I have not read the previous novels, but I think it's just kind of a lame book based on a tired premise. It is not funny enough (though it clearly attempts to be clever), and the language seems very forced... I personally have no issues with profanity and an f-bomb here and there in a book if it seems to suit the chara...more

I was disappointed in this book. Now, that might be partly because I haven't read the whole series, but I'm finding that more and more often these days you can step into series (especially urban fantasy types of series) mid-way.

I expected the book to be fun, witty, and exciting. That was what made me read the whole thing...I keep expecting. I never got. I guess I was imagining urban fantasy butt-kicking while keeping track of a toddler -- well, because that's what the cover and back copy promise...more

What if Buffy the Vampire Slayer grew up and became a stay-at-home mom?

This book is the latest in the Kate Connor Demon Hunter series. She has her hands full juggling her toddler son plus her teenage daughter who is a Demon Hunter-in-training. She finally confessed her secret Demon Hunter life to her current husband but is more worried about how to exorcise the demon who is entwined with her returned-from-the-dead first husband's soul.

Obviously, this book doesn't strive to be high minded, liter...more

After reading several rather lengthy books, I needed something lighter so I picked up this one. Of course, it's not all puppies and chocolate as there is a lot of serious business going on in this book, but it's told in a much more lighthearted manner than my previous reading, so it was a nice break. My memory was a bit fuzzy on some of the earlier action in this series, but I think I picked up the important points. And this one actually ended at a point where the series could easily continue or...more

June 2010:
It’s become tradition for me to read one (or two) books in this series to kick off my summer reading. It's like what would happen if Buffy grew up, moved to the suburbs, had kids, and then got called back into the fray for supernatural baddie-killing duty. Overall, it’s light fair with a cast of comely characters I’ve come to adore and care about. There’s Kate, soccer mom with a side job as a Vatican-sanctioned demon-hunter; budding hunter protégée, Allie, her daughter with her first h...more

Julie Kenner tells an excellent tale that grabs you from page one and doesn't let you go. This is book 5 of her Kate Connor, Demon Hunter series, and I loved every minute of it. If you're curious to know how a mother of two (one teen and one toddler) manages car pooling, a dead-but-now-back-in-another-body ex-husband, a current husband (who's trying hard to understand), and hunts demons in her spare (!) time, this is the series for you.

When I started this series, it was pure accident. But after gobbling up the first installment, I couldn't get my hands on the next ones fast enough. Sure in the first two installments, the writing was raw, but Kenner soon found her voice and boy did it sing!

I love Kate. I adore Allie and Eric? Yum. But...I'm dying for the next one.

If you want an easy read, a funny read or just a relaxing read, this series is for you.

I feel like the main character of this book, is a friend of mine. When I'm readin a Kate Conner book, it feels like a friend has come to stay w/ me for a week or so. Its great that Kate's family is now in the Demon huntin business w/ her. It had a couple of things I wasn't expectin, which is always good, cuz its not good if its too predictable. I love Julie Kenner's writin style.
Tara
This book was just as action filled as the other books in the series. I liked the fact that the other characters were more explored in this book. Allie is becoming more independent as a hunter, we finally learn what is going on with David/Eric. Eddie is more helpful rather than abrasive, and now I see the Stuart that she loves and why.
Lots of story lines were tied up, but it still left a little room for another book if she wants to write one.

Another fun entry in the Kate Connor, Demon Hunter series. I enjoyed it muchly, and I dearly hope that this isn't the last book. Normally, I read these in the mass market paperback, so by the time that I read it, next year's book is already on the shelves as a trade paperback. This year, I couldn't wait, and so now I'm waiting impatiently . . .

Kate Connor is a married mother of two. She's also a demon hunter. It's basically what would happen if Buffy got married and had kids and then had to resume slaying vampires.

(Kate actually kills demons and occasionally zombies, not vampires, but you get the idea.)

I love this series. :) It's really funny and Kate kicks ass.

I wanted to love this as much as I liked the previous books in the series but there was just something that annoyed about the characters, Kate especially. I found it very distracting that the only exclamation anyone ever said was "dear god" and Kate seemed to find herself with tears streaming down her face at least once a chapter. I didn't mind the story, though I still don't understand the thing with Eric at the end -- I guess that's the deus ex machina at work. I just found that some of the wr...more

This was a pretty good installment of the Demon-Hunter series. I enjoyed the story over all, even though Kate's stubbornness was more than a little infuriating at times. I do have the same complaint (rushed action(s) & explanation(s)) about this one as I had with the previous books, but it was all worth it in the end. I'm wondering if there will be a book 6? The ending of Ex Machina would be a fitting end to the series, but is also open enough to have another story.

If you enjoyed previous installments in this series you won't be disappointed. These are action packed books. And while there's no deep mean of life in them, they are enjoyable reads with lots of action, lots of laughs and a reliable happy ending. Good to read when you want something fun and satisfying.

My memory of the last few books in the series is a bit blurry, but I am fairly sure this one is my favorite. Allie is growing up, Timmy is a toddler, lots of conflict in all shapes and sizes. A fun, easy read. Our heroine was left in a good place, but I`d love to read more. Adventures in Rome, perhaps?
Angela
The series seems to be spinning a little out of control--pretty soon they will have revealed the secret to everyone in town! I wish the reincarnated ex-husband would just die---that drama doesn't do it for me. I'll try one more of these to see if things get back on track.
Michele
I don't like any other books with a fantasy element, not vampires, werewolves or any of that genre that are currently very popular, but for some reason I love the demon hunter series by Julie Kenner. This one again was hard to put down and very satisfying.
Susan
This series is basically chick lit with demons. Think Buffy, if she were in her 30's with a husband and children.

This one wasn't quite as slap stick at the others have been, which is an improvement but the romance aspect was lacking, which I missed.
Karina
The cover caught my eye in the library and the praise listed on the back. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be. It was okay, but some things were off... I didn't like how powerful the demons were, and the way they took away freedom of will.
Meredith Kaupp
I really enjoy this series, about Kate Conner, a Vatican trained demon hunter who tries to keep her double life secret from her family. This is the 5th book, and a lot of storylines were tied up while creating new ones for future books (I hope).

It was OK. I think it was the weakest of the books, and they aren't exactly high literature, but this one was more boring, and I cared less about the characters than in the other books. But, if you have time to kill, it works for that.
Kieraanne
Eh. I liked it better when she was pretending to be normal 'cuz her husband didn't know she hunted demons. Now it was just all demons all the time practically. At one point she suddenly didnt' have her toddler with her and went and did a bunch of stuff and you just had to assume she dropped him off at daycare or something. That's something else I liked about these books was that she always had to worry about where her kids were, which I could totally relate to. So I really didn't like it that th...more
