Recommends it for: Stalwart readers dedicated to chivalry
This was a fabulous little duo! The only hang up being that I don't know my Scottish/English history enough to fill in some of the details that Scott assumed were and would be general knowledge (which was true for his original audience).

The first book The Monastery is set in the mid 1500's, during the reign of Mary Stuart and, I think, at the beginning of her struggles with her step-brother James Stewart who wanted the throne.

It is also at the beginnings of the reign of Elizabeth in England and
