Not going on my favorite shelf, but still a really good read. I meant to only read a few pages, but ended up staying up until 5 a.m. to finish it off! The world created by Jessa Slade is rich, along with her vocabulary. I almost wanted to go searching for my dictionary with some of the terms used, but it only added to the story. Angels and Demons at war, strange creatures from the underworld, and magical powers. I can't wait for the second book, but I'm going to pass the first on to another frie

*sigh* This book mostly just reminded me of why I don't typically read books labeled as romances.
Basic plot: Sera gets possessed by a demon who wants to atone for being naughty, joins up with a network of similarly infected humans, and ends up saving the world from Hell on earth.
Complaint #1- formulaic plot. Normal chick inducted into weird brotherhood and is different from anything they've ever seen, never seen that one before... Look, they're having lifesaving sex; look, More...

All in all, this was a lot more enjoyable than I expected - don't get me wrong, there's minimal humor and lots of angst - but as a fast-moving romantic adventure story, it really hit the spot.
After losing her mother to suicide as a child, her father to dementia, and now her job after a car accident that left her emotionally and physically broken, Sera Littlejohn unwittingly succumbs to temptation in the form of a demon - damning herself to a semi-immortal life waging an unending war ag More...

Seduced by Shadows was a book I got at a book club book swap. It looked interesting enough and when I began the book, I was pleasantly surprised with the writing and especially the world. I really liked the not quite black and white view of good and evil. The whole setting was done very well and I liked the situations that it put the characters into. The characters were what made the book hard to read. I liked Sera’s spunk. Come on, a girl like her who has been through a traumatizing, near

Seduced by Shadows suprised me in how much I enjoyed the style of writing and characters despite some of the scene to scene action not quite making sense for me.
A counselor to the dying gets posessed by a demon (reformed demon called a teshuva), joins a group of demon-possessed guys fighting bad demons (called djinn), and finds new ways to destroy the bad guys through her bond with one of the hunky demon hunters.

This is the first book in the Marked Souls series and a début by author Jessa Slade. It follows a similar pattern to that of many other Paranormal Romance series: A group of immortal men, one of whom is featured in each book, and meets his destined female and they all live happily ever after. For readers of this genre, this set-up will feel nice and familiar, and that's not a criticism. Obviously we like the formula or else why are we here again starting yet another new series? I know I already

I presume you know what the book is about. I'm letting you know what I liked or disliked about it.
The author is equal amounts of wicked smart and funny. I really enjoyed reading her work, learning about the characters and what eventually unfolded as a story BUT I didn't like the writing.
Maybe 2/3's of the way through the book I realized I wasn't really ever going to get comfortable in the read. I'm not sure if this will come across clearly or not but I'm going to try a More...

Sera Littlejohn is a thanatologist - she sits with dying hospital patients and helps them in their last hours - but ever since she was hit by a drunk-driver her world has become one of pain medication, physiotherapy and struggle. But it's not her physical scars that draw a demon to her from beyond the veil but guilt over her mother. Either way, she's the first female in countless centuries to be possessed by a demon.

This book is about people who are possessed by demons because they had a whole in their soul. Once the demon ascends they become the Marked Souls and they fight until they die, then their soul can be redeemed.
The main character in this book is Archer. He is a two hundred year old possesed man. He has lost everything in his life and believes that the world is damned because of the people who live in it.

I think this was a great first book! The storyline was interesting and unique. People being possessed by demons, either good or bad, and they are fighting one another to protect the innocent people in the world. That's just to sum up what's going on. The only issue I had with it, it was a little detail oriented and there was a lot of description. It could be that it was the first book and had to set up the world and the premise, but also it's not enough of a problem that I wouldn't want to conti

This was a good read, but it didn't really hook me. I found it easy to put down, and might not have finished it if it hadn't been my beach read this last week. I'm not sure what was missing. I loved Slade's take on demon possession, and I really liked Archer. Maybe Sera didn't appeal to me enough?
Actually, I think that might be it. I remember thinking the post-demon-ascending-Sera was completely different from the Sera in the first chapter or two. In the beginning, she had a shadow o More...

First things first: this book is exceptionally well written. It's very lyrical and poetic, which might explain why it took me forever to read. I had to stop to look up words or admire a particularly evocative passage. Lovely, lovely prose. Having said that, the same stunning writing confused me numerous times while I was reading. The action became murky at times, and I had a difficult time figuring out what was happening. I also had some issues with the romance between the characters -- it never

It isn't often that a new author grabs me as this one did. Seduced by Shadows was a book I didn't want to put down. That is very unusual. I found myself sneeking in a few pages every chance I got.
Sera and Ferris are a great couple, once they get past the obvious issues, but it was the premise that pulled me in. There are all sorts of demon series out there, but this premise of a repenent demon taking over a human body in order to make amends is different.

This is the toughest review I have ever done. Usually, I read a book every two days, three max, depending on my work schedule. This one took me ten days to drag myself through. Most times, I can't wait to get back to whatever story I am reading, but in this case I read when I had nothing else to do. The problem is, just when I decided that I had had enough, the thing got interesting.

This one disappointed me. Awesome premise, great worldbuilding, but the characterization didn't hold up. The lead heroine is a disabled thanatologist who ministers to the dying... which seemed really cool to me, but the character fell flat for me; it's hard to describe, but it lacks that "spark" that brings characters to life. The lead hero, Ferris Archer, only seems to exist to serve as her romantic interest, but the romance has no real spark either. The author makes the mistake of co

"Seduced by Shadows" is an amazing story! Jessa Slade has introduced her Marked Souls with style, wit, and takes the reader into a vibrant tapestry of worlds that compelled me into turning page after page - through meals and late into the night.
The cast of characters is powerful and unique, the burdens they carry and trials they face are intense. The twists and turns as the story unfolds is truly addictive.

I thought this book was just ok. There was a lot of setting the rules that seemed to mire down the book. Archer wasn't a sympathetic charcter, he just seemed to feel sorry for himself and really couldn't get past it. I did enjoy some of the other guys in the book as they were much more fun and broody. Sera seemed to accept things at face value much too quickly for me. I did like her friends Becky and Nanette and can see where they have the potential to play a larger part in the series.

Sera Littlejohn was in an accident that left her crippled and in constant pain. On the walk home one cold Chicago night, Sera encounters a handsome imposing man who is a bit frighting. Later that evening she dreams of the same man and he promises her a life without pain and answers to her most burning questions. What she doesn't realize is that she has just agreed to let a teshuva (a demon that seeks redemption) posses her. What I really admired about Sera was tha More...

Seduced by Shadows was a tense, dark and multifaceted love story centered around the talyans, humans who carrying teshuva demons, fallen angels who have repented, in their souls in hopes for personal redemption when they die in battle. The talyans are the disregarded fodder for the holy war between angels and djinn demons, the fallen angels who have not repented, and they have pretty much given up hope for winning the holy war until Sera Littlejohn comes along.

Ferris Archer knows Sera Littlejohn is about to get possessed by a demon. Unfortunately, the woman doesn't believe him, also because she would be the first female to be possessed in a very, very, very long time.

Wow! This book will break your heart. It is extremely dark and very INTENSE. The story draws you into a dank, gray, cold world and keeps you there. I almost don't know how to describe it. Ms. Slade paints these characters with such a vivid brush that you become enmeshed in their story. There are very few lighthearted exchanges in this book, but lest you think this is a criticism, they would have been grossly out of place. There is an HEA and I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

I'm sorry but I have to give up on this one. As I'm listening to as an audiobook, I can't decide if it's the narrator or the writing I'm not getting on with. But it feels very cumbersome. The language and description is over constructed and I find myself getting very frustrated with it. I can't quote directly as I do not have a physical copy to quote from - but I remember one phrase something along the lines of - my words falling of his broad shoulders like raindrops - as I say not an totally ac

2.5 stars. The writing is good. The story is good, but not very original - it's what' you expect when you pick up paranormal romance. And that's not a slam, I'm just saying the story is what you expect. Why it's not 3 stars - theology. Too much of it. Too heavy for paranormal romance. I will read Slade again - but if I get another heave dose of theology it will probably be my last.

I did sort of enjoy this book; but I did feel that I ought to have liked it better than I did. I'm not sure whether it was because of the characters, the setting and trying to understand this new world that Jessa Slade has created with all its new terms or just the way that she wrote.
I'm going to continue with the series and maybe as I get more into the series I'll start to enjoy it more. I'll see.

I have to say after seeing the cover of this book I was in love. Who could pass up a hot guy? After reading this I could. I'm sorry to say that I didn't care for this book. It was hard to get into and felt like it went no where. Even after reading the whole thing I'm not totally sure of the plot. I won't be getting this author again.

I have to lower my earlier 4 stars to three. The concept was good. Repenting demons possessing peoples with a hole in their soul (from being hurt in one way or another) fighting against evil demons who just wants to rule the world.
I did find the main characters a bit squarish. They were angry all the time, at each other, at them self´s.
But, as I said, I liked the concept so I will definitely read the next book in the series.

I hate to say this about any book, but this was a tough read for me. Usually I finish a book within 2to 3 days, this book took me a week. I was going between 2and 3 stars for awhile before I settled on 3. The writing itself was great, Slade has a wonderful style. However, the characters did not seem to match, at times it was hard to believe that a romantic relationship could exist between them. Also, the heroine seemed to change personalities after her possession. There were times when I found
