What a Dragon Should Know (The Dragon Kin #3)
by
G.A. Aiken
Only for those I love would I traipse into the merciless Northlands to risk life, limb, and my exquisite beauty. But do they appreciate it? Do they say, 'Gwenvael the Handsome, you are the best among us - the most loved of all dragons?' No! For centuries my family has refused to acknowledge my magnificence as well as my innate humility. Yet for them, and because I am so ch...more

G.A. Aiken’s Dragon Kin series continues to capture my heart and keep me up night after night. WHAT A DRAGON SHOULD KNOW is Gwenvael and Dagmar’s book. Dagmar is the only daughter of The Reinholdt and she is a mastermind politician who simply kicks ass. While she isn’t like my favourite warrior, Annwyl the Blood Queen, Dagmar still fits in with these fierce warriors in her own way. With her spectacles and her modesty, Gwenvael can’t believe that he is meeting The Beast of the Northlanders. Howev...more
This is my first book for my new Kindletoy. I've read What a Dragon Should Know before but I couldn't resist - especially since this version comes with the bonus short (with the grandparent's story) originally published in Everlasting Badboys.
Even though What A Dragon Should Know was a reread for me - and I very very rarely reread - it was still quite fun. I loved how the seemingly vapid Gwenvael was so scheming and manipulative under all of that self indulgent vanity. He and the scarily smart...more

If you forgive the cover, this series is one of the most well made series I've ever read about in adult fantasy genre.
This is a much better book than the last few (which is overwhelming funny) since this was appropriately a fantasy novel with blood, angst, dragons, minotaur, skyrim-worth of adventure, poltics and of course, Gwenvael - the poor dragon who always get punched by everyone in the last two books. All the thoughts of the author into this one book never cease to amaze me. The plot reall...more

The first book in this series was very enjoyable for me, but the second one was not too good, and frankly I didn't expect to like the third book, this one, because of the lead character, Gwenvael. Third in the Dragon Kin hysterically funny fantasy series about a family of dragons and those they love. The primary couple focus is on Gwenvael the Handsome (if he does say so himself) and Dagmar "The Beast" Reinholdt. Other couples whom Aiken teases us with include the continuing taunt of Éibhear and Izzy, an upcoming romance between Keita and Ragnar, and Brastias and Morfyd.

Oh my.. i passed through a roller coaster of emotions while reading this book. It is hilarious of course, with Gwenvael's self loving character and Dagmar's icy tones. The action/adventure part is not bad as well.. i enjoyed every bit of it. The drama part? ooohh that was so unexpected. I admit, i cried a bit. Its just that i really loved Annwyl's character and i never thought they'd kill her on the third book. Anyway, that scene (scenes) really made me sad and diverted my attention from the mai...more
This book and this series really crack me up. The way the author writes the main characters just makes me laugh. So often they are yelling at each other or beating on each other. The best parts are when it is the women that are doing it to each other. Part of that comes from them all being family. And it seems to be so true that no one other than your family can make you madder faster than them, and while it is ok for you to call them bad names or beat on them, no one else has that right.

As an Aiken(Shelley Laurenston) fan, I was crazy excited to review this one.... I bought the book as soon as it was released, and devoured it as fast as I could (which RL made more difficult then I'd have liked). Now that I've read the book though, I can't seem to figure out what I thought of it... I can honestly say I didn't hate it. And I'm relatively positive I didn't dislike it. The problem is that I can' decide if I actually liked it or not.

/5 stars for Gwenvael (my personal whore)! All I can say is that this book is probably the best in the series. At the moment. I have yet to read Keita the Viper and Eibhear the Blue's (my sweet baby) story. ;)
Here are some of the scenes that made me LOL, literally. If this doesn't make you want to read this, I don't know what will. Enjoy!

So much fun. I have never laughed so much reading a book! I really take these books lightly and yet so many things happen that pull at my heartstrings. I loved Gwenvael when first meeting him, from his gloden hair down to his very narcissistic personality.
Gwenvael is a in love with himself and while doing his sister in law a favor he meets Dagmar who is called The Beast. She is not his typical whore like female. She wears glasses and walks around in very plain clothes and yet he falls for her an...more

Outstanding read! The latest Dragonkin book from G.A. Aiken (Shelly Laurenston) has great characters with a twisted sense of humor, great action involving swinging swords and dragonflames, and laugh out loud dialog. All the characters from the first two books make contributions to this one but Gwenvael is the hero. The heroine is Dagmar and she takes exception to the hero throwing himself to the ground laughing when she is introduces as 'The Beast'. Much of the plot surrounds politics; politics...more
So much fun. At first glance, Dagmar and Gwenvael might appear to be shoo-ins for typical romance roles (she's bookish, he's vain, they get off on the wrong foot/talon) but they go through the story being delightfully themselves and resistant to flat characterization. I loved the ways they challenged each other without being unpleasantly combative, and I loved the ways they worked together. They had fun together, in bed and out. Also, sidenote: I rarely run into voyeurism in my romance reading (...more
What a Dragon Should Know G. A. Aiken If you are following the Dragon Kin series, this is book #3, the story of Gwenvael the Handsome and his human mate, Dagmar ‘The Beast’ Reinholt. A delightful tale full of laughter and plots, to quote Ms. Aiken, “To keep a two hundred year old dragon entertained for another six hundred years when most dragons were spent plotting and planning ‘shenanigans and ‘hijinks,’ I needed a heroine who absolutely lived for ‘shenanigans’ and ‘hijinks.’” And she delivered...more
What a treat this series about a Dragons, family, wars and warriors and romance. We met Feargous and Briec the first two sons of the Dragon Queen Rhiannon now the third son, Gwenvail the handsome. G is very vain, has a vicious wit, has bedded every available woman but he is not stupid--he is very crafty and can make trouble for anyone just for the enjoyment of seeing the chaos unfold. Annwyl the Bloody, the human Queen of the Southlands has asked G to go to the Northland and confer with "The Bea...more
So, I've skipped the second book to read this one because I had heard such good things about it.
I liked it a lot, and both Gwenvael and Dagmar are absolutely adorable and funny. I'm also kind of happy that Dagmar didn't make Gwenvael's promiscuity into a big thing, this is mostly because I'm not a big fan of dealing with past lover drama.
All this being said, I'm more of a angsty, brooding hero type of girl and that's just not this book at all. Not to say that everything is all roses, (there is p...more

None of his dragon kin took Gwenvael the Handsome seriously. Mainly because when he wasn’t staring at his reflection, he was off whoring around. He was way too preoccupied with his own pleasure to watch what he said to others or consider their feelings, which was why he was in his current predicament. After a thoughtless remark about her rapidly increasing girth due to carrying dragon twins, Gwenvael has caused the already temperamental Annwyl the Bloody to go on a hormonal crying jag, much to t...more
Excellent! Although not as sexual in nature as the first two books, there is an amazing, well told story in this one. The family dynamic continues to change as more characters are brought into this remarkable tale. A big turn of events made for some anxious, dramatic, page turning reading. Of course the author continues to give us laugh out loud moments, with humorous dialogue, crazy antics, especially when it came to Izzy. Oh how I love her!! She just makes me smile. Dagmar and Gwenvael are com...more

This third book in the Dragon Kin series is all that you expect from G A Aiken. The story jumps forward seven months, Queen Annwyl is heavily pregnant with twins and can't really do much, so asks Gwenvael to head up to the Northlands to find out what the Beast, Dragmar Reinholdt, knows about her and her babies. This is where the story of Gwenvael and Dragmar begins. Gwenvael is a very jovial character and this is represented brilliantly in the first part of the book as he does his best to impres...more
This is an amazing series and, so far, this is my favourite book. Great writing, wonderful pacing, numerous humourous quips, and a deeply emotional section that made me almost stop reading the book at that point. But trusting the author, I kept a box of tissues near by and ploughed through the section. I was amply rewarded for my faith. Never underestimate the creativity of this author, nor assume that a character is introduced just to provide a humourous aside.

I Loved this story. I was so excited for Gwenvale to finally get his HEA! and I knew his heroine would have to someone special and Dagmar really fit the bill!

In a land were woman are thought of as property, Dagmar quitely works behind the scenes, running the country and letting her father think it's all his idea! When I started this series, I wasn't sure about the vain, shallow, albeit comic Gwenvael The Whore getting his own story. Seemed the only way to make him "leading man" material would be to change his character completely. Turns out I was wrong.
Gwenvael is sent on a mission by his sister-in-law, Queen Annwyl. With the lives of both Annwyl and her unborn children on the line, Gwenvael cannot afford to fail. His mission is to gather what information the Northland "Beast" knows, and negotiate terms...more

I know i'm going to come up short describing how much I loved this book, but I will try my hardest.
What A Dragon Should Know is completely enthralling. From start to finish it is non stop entertainment either with its actions scenes, fantastically romantic love scenes or my best part - the laugh out loud sarcastic wise cracks. I am a hugh sarcastic humour fan and this whole series has been full of it.

I can say I've breezed through this series. I had an urge, a nudge in my head to give this series some reading time and I am so glad I did. I've read the first book quite some time ago, and the prequel story, and it was just not too great, it was more okay. But I'd like to congratulate myself for resuming it, because the series, as I've come to realize, had gotten so much better with every book.

What A Dragon Should Know is Gwenvael the Handsome's story. He is the third son, and fourth born to the Dragon Queen. Gwenvale is a gold dragon who can take the form of a human. He has never met a woman he could not charm and have his way with. Until he met Dagmar. She is the thirteenth child, and only daughter of The Reinholdt, the leader of the Northern Plains. He quickly learns he will need more than his good looks to deal with the petite woman the locals call "The Beast". Dagmar clearly has...more
