Recommends it for: people who read spanish pretty well

This was the first novel i ever read in Spanish for my own pleasure. It's a thick book and I was a little bit daunted when a Peruvian friend recommended it to me. But as soon as i started it I fell into it as if I were reading in english not spanish. Echenique is hilarious and his character is constantly suprising the reader as well as himself. It's kind of like a big farcical comedy except that it's also kind of sad and sweet.

I read this book when I was going to similar problems as the charatcter, so my review may be biased. To me this is Bryce's best book. In my case his books go along my personal history, it's weird...

Following the humorous style of this writer, this is one of his best novels. Relaxing
Jen
Ridiculous and glorious (or perhaps it's just my bad Spanish that made me react so.)

This is a lovely book. Bryce's humor is the main attraction of this novel.

I learned that life it's just more than 1968.

I liked the book, there are some excellent parts but I felt others kind of boring. I still think that "Un mundo para Julius", the first novel by Bryce Echenique is a much better book.
Lucía Monzón
Sin duda, mi favorita de Bryce... Muy divertida

some excelent moments, some boring ones, an overall interesting reading, even though it could be shorter
