I thought this book was fabulous. I would recommend this book for fifth graders and up. The story takes place in England, 2010, and revolves around four children, ages 11-13. Ben and Rachel discover an underground vault buried in their back garden. With lots of curiosity and a tiny bit of trepidation the two children explore the vault discover two children, Polly and Freddy, in chronic suspension since 1956. Once Polly and Freddy have been “awoken” the adventure and mystery begins. I loved the c...more
I read this book to my 10 year old boy. It took him quite a while to get into it - I enjoyed the 1950s language and the references to different cultures but that all went over his head but he enjoyed the action in the last few chapters of the book and couldn't wait for me to finish it. I don't think he would want me to read it again though and I don't think it is the sort of book he would have stuck with if he was reading it himself. I would say reading level is age 10+ but I think quite a bit w...more

In 1956, a brother and sister were cryonically frozen. Discovered and revived by another pair of siblings in 2010, they are forced to come to terms with a modern world while trying to discover what has happened to their scientist father.
Frozen in Time successfully combines the characterization of a classic Enid Blyton-style children's thriller from the middle of the last century with a more contemporary thriller. As a result, we get a great deal of humor from the difference in attitudes, while s...more

When Ben and Rachel’s parents went on their summer tour with their magic act, the two young teenagers are left with their Uncle Jerome, the scientist. In their exploration of the yard they discover a bomb shelter from the 1950s and in the bomb shelter are two cryogenically frozen children – the aunt and uncle of their Uncle Jerome. The children’s father had disappeared fifty years before and was suspected of defecting to the Russians and the children are embroiled in a mystery involving spies an...more
I loved this book mainly because it took ME back in time. References to goods of the 1950s made me smile. Although it's a book for older children, I think perhaps some help may be needed for a child of today to fully appreciate the humour of the 'dated' items. It would be good for using as a class novel(read to whole class)over the duration of a project/ topic work on the 1950s( if that still happens in schools). Its very 'Britishness' is the essence of the humour. Very easy to read, and a refre...more
Frozen in Time is wrote by Ali Sparkes and was award the blue Peter Book of the Year 2010. Frozen in Time is all about a boy and girl called Freddy and Polly. Freddy and Polly were told by their father that they would only be frozen for a couple of minutes in 1956 but instead they were frozen for 51 years and were woken up by Ben and Rachel in 2009. Then they find out what happened and why were they frozen for 51 years instead of few minutes.

18.05.2010. I just got it today! That's early. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow. Tonite, will start reading and can't wait for it as I've read some good reviews on it.
19.05.2010. I decided to postpone reading this as I've received some more new books. Not because I find this book uninteresting. On the contrary, I'm saving the best for last.
27.05.2010. Finished this book after restarting it yesterday.

I loved this book. There was a perfect amount of action, suspense, longing and thrill to it. I enjoyed the worry for Freddy after he started to show the symptoms of something/or/other that could kill you. It made me VERY nervous. I liked the action when the cleanup cars came. It was cool to not really know who was on which side, because of major treachery. I really enjoyed this book, and I hope you do too, because you WILL read it. Right?

This may be a junior book, but my daughter, my mother and myself read it and enjoyed!
We all want this book to be made into a film that a family can enjoy together, no matter the age.
It is so full of history crossed with present times and really made for a good read and conversation topic within my family.

I really enjoyed this one. It was a nice, reasonably paced adventure where kids use their own wits to save themselves. I really got to know the characters, especially Freddy and Polly, and I was rooting for them till the very end. It may be aimed at the younger teen market, but it still had me hooked.
Ms. Patterson: I was completely drawn into this sci-fi book from the get go. Ben and Rachael uncover a bomb shelter in their backyard and dig up two cryogenically frozen kids from 1956. There's a lot of mystery involved, and a lot of fun as the kids get to know the best bits of each others' times. Takes place in England, so there might be some vocabulary challenges, but I can't wait to share this with some kids!

I read this for a book group that I'm doing with fourth grade students. It was a first choice for many of them and I think they will like it. It has the science fiction element of cryogenic freezing, but it also has a good dose of mystery and adventure. I think the kids will be asking to read more than what was assigned each week...

Good science fiction, funny in parts, great for comparing 1950s w/ 2010s.

“Good plan," Freddy was saying. "Let's get some decent sleep. Tomorrow we can shake our gravy asses into town and do some sluething.”
