This second volume picks up where the last story left off. Emily and Navin are trying desperately to stay ahead of the elves and to find a cure for their mom. The robots left behind by their great grandfather are doing their best to fill the kids in on the world around them and about the amulet that Emily now wears. But they can't provide much training on it. Enter Leon Redbeard, who helps the group escape the elves and meet up with the resistance...and provides Emily some much needed traini

A big improvement over the first book. Book one had too much non-stop action. It tried to make an exciting adventure out of characters we knew nothing about. There was a villain, but we didn't know who he was, what he was, or why he was chasing these kids. That's cleared up in the first few pages of Book 2. We find out he is an elven prince looking for acceptance from his father. His father is unimpressed by his achievements and has no problem threatening his own son with death. Immediately it w

This was a great addition to the Amulet series. Fans of the first book will love this one.
Emily and Navin have rescued their mother but she is dying from deadly poison. Now Emily and Nevin have to travel with the strange crew they found in the house to the city of Kanalis. There they will find more intriguing characters, hopefully find an answer to their mother's illness, and also find that more is afoot than just their small problems.

Emily and her brother Navin are on their way to find an antidote to the poison that's slowly killing their mother in this second installment of Kazu Kibuishi's Amulet series. Aided by the toys Emily's great-grandfather charged with her care and the sentient, robotic house, they make good time to the city--only to learn that the only cure is even further away, in a mountain forest, and the Elf King and his warriors are closing in fast. The stone that hangs around Emily's neck offers advice on h

Reason for Reading: Next in series. Cybils nominee
Comments: It's been awful long wait since the first book in this series that I had to sit down and think a bit before I dove into this eagerly anticipated sequel. While Book 1 was all dark and foreboding, this second in the, I assume, trilogy gets right into the action. One of my biggest pet peeves in "modern" fantasy is when characters from the "normal" world are faced with some sort of fantasy weirdness and have either little or no reaction to it. Although this volume had a lot of this weirdness, Kibuishi very gracefully evades the trap keeping Emily and Navin's reactions believable and at times funny ("lets hope that tree was bad at math").

Kazu Kibuishi's Amulet: The Stonekeeper's Curse by Kizu Kibuishi is a popular book for kids and for some teens. This book talks about a girl named Emily and her younger brother Navin who finds a bracelet for a stonekeeper. Emily accepts the amulet and is now the stonekeeper. Meanwhile, the elf king sends out Luger to go hunt Emily and her companions down and Emily needs to find a cure for her mother. Will she find a cure for her mother while escaping from Luger and the elves?

This is volume 2. I jumped right in , not having read volume 1, and it appears this one must have picked up right where vol 1 left off. It didn't take me too long to get a feel for the story. The story is good, but reminds me of Star Wars or something. More and more books nowadays seem to have a female in the role of the hero, and this book does that too. There is a really big cast of robots, talking trees, talking animals and a few elves and humans thrown in for good measure. I definitely like

Once again, a solid book, but not necessarily a really innovative one. The story seems familiar, but not to such an extent that it's not fun to read or seems like a knock-off. Nice design work, decent pacing, probably less formulaic to the intended younger audience, while still having a nice approach to the subject matter. I like that it deals with the sort of "with great power comes great responsibility" thing in a couple different ways - not just that when you can do the right thin

I thought this one was a lot better than the first. I am not a big fan of graphic novels, but this one is really good. A lot more action in this one. Cant wait for the third.

This second installment of the Amulet series follows Emily, Navin, and their friends as they continue their quest to save their mother.
As Emily continues to use the amulet, she feels like she's losing control. It's up to their new friend, Leon Redbeard, a wily fox, to help her hone her talents and fight against the temptation of the amulet. Will she be able to resist the lure of absolute power? Will she be able to save her mother? You'll have to read it to find out.

It's getting interesting. I start to enjoy the story just to remember that will be only one more book.
As a summary I will think that this book has genre just like Avatar.
It is increased in level of adventure in this book, as a sign that it almost finish. The adventure now is not only in land but it's on airship. It seems like when you play an RPG game, the level of transportation tools is increasing (Final Fantasy is best example).

This is the second book in the Amulet series. I am really enjoying the storyline and I really like the illustrations. The only thing that held this graphic novel back from being a 5 is the fact that there was one particular scene that SCREAMED Star Wars. It was the scene where Leon is trying to train Emily in the forest. This automatically made me think of Yoda training Luke. It is not a bad thing, I just have difficulty with story lines that remind me that obviously of other authors' works

Great art, even greater colouring. I read this together with my 7 year old son, and we both completely loved it. Cool blend of fantasy and steam-punk, classic fantasy themes but with a few twists to keep things fresh and surprising, and most importantly, LOTS of action. Good stuff for kids in here too (importance of family, of learning to trust others, of free will, etc.). Beautiful to look at, fresh and entertaining, morally grounded, and with compelling plot elements and plenty of action that

Am reading these books because I gave book 1 to my 10 year old cousin, and he loved it. So, this was more of the same - a girl on a quest, with the support of her younger brother. She meets allies along the way, and also enemies.
Coincidentally, this boo,km also has some fun with archtypes (evil elves!!), which I enjoy, but overall this isn't really something for kids and adults; I'd say it's pretty squarely a kids' book. Which, you know, is a valid genre, but once again one for whi More...

Excellent fantasy graphic novel that continues the story of Emily and her brother Navin, whose mother is dying from a mysterious poison. They search to find the cure to save her. Along the way they meet a mysterious cast of characters, but can Emily master the magical stone that she has inherited? And can Navin live up to his role in the prophecy?

Read my review of the first three books on Pica Reads.
These fast-paced and wonderfully illustrated graphic novels are quick reads that will keep you turning the pages and wishing for more. Since I've been writing picture books every day, I have an even deeper respect and appreciation for authors who can write graphic novels this wonderfully.

The Stonekeeper's Curse starts off with us meeting the Elf king. Prince Trellis has been ordered by the Elf King to kill Emily, the Stonekeeper. We also get to see Kanalis, a port city where Emily, Navin, and crew have traveled to try and find a doctor for their mother. They meet some of the Elf King's army while there, and a chase ensues.
The second book of the Amulet series starts off with a bang. We get to know more about Prince Trellis and the Elf King. I'm curious about Prince Tr More...

Amulet: The StonekKeeper's Curse by Kazu Kibuishi made it to the Cybils short list of the middle grades graphic novels. It was in a tight race all the way to the final vote with the winner.
I hadn't read the first book. My first impression was the artwork which seemed to be a good match to the teen winner, Gunnerkrieg Court (review coming) in terms of style not necessarily substance. The next thing that struck me was that I had come into the middle of something big and would want to g More...

Yesssss! Finally! This sequel was worth the wait -- more incredible full-color artwork and page-turning storytelling from Kazu Kibuishi. The double-page spreads which set each new scene are jaw-dropping and remain right up there with the best layouts from Miyazaki, Jeff Smith's Bone, and even Myst (the computer game!). Even some of the smallest panels have innovative compositions that do a great job depicting transitions and action scenes. Basically, I wish this book was bigger, so I could drool

I havent read other books in this series and this was left behind by someone in my art class. Amulet is obviosuly written for younger audiences, but that didn't deter from my enjoyment of it. The artwork is decent, the action scenes are easy to follow, the story isn't completely original yet remains interesting. The computerized coloring is rich and contributes to the overall product. While I didn't pay for the book, I found myself curious enough to be willing to pay for future installments.

This book doesn't really break any new ground, as it follows the "heroe's journey" mode unabashedly. If you've seen Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, you've seen this story. However, this books if filled to the brim with whimsy, imagination, and heart which makes it an absolute joy to read. Kazu can do no wrong in my eyes so far. The art he draws is just (for lack of a better term) lovely. He doesn't really fit the mold of a Marvel, DC, or Manga artists, which is a definite welcome chang

This second book in The StoneKeeper's Curse series was more plot oriented and less flash and action, and I prefer that. The colors are beautiful and the story appealing to a wide range of ages. I was paraphrasing the plot of girl stonekeeper, boy commander of the army, fighting with helper robots against bad elves in a giant robot house to a 2-yr-old and 4-yr-old and they loved the story and could follow the graphics. They also loved Leon Redbeard, the ninja fox. Who doesn't love a good ninj

An excellent second installment in the Amulet series. Though it had been a while since I read the first one, I had no difficulty in jumping right back into the action in this series. I'm more than a little put out that I'll probably have to wait at least a year for the next (and I'm assuming last) volume, but here's to hoping it's worth the wait.
Though at times this can be a pretty derivative example of the quest-in-literature trope, I'm willing to let that go, and just enjoy this at face More...

THE STONEKEEPER'S CURSE by Kazu Kibuishi
This was one even better than the first. More action, deeper into the story, and even more unique and exciting characters. This book was really enjoyable and it definitely kept me intrigued. Now I'm really interested to see how it all ends! THE STONEKEEPER'S CURSE is a really fun read whether you're in the target age group or not. I recommend it. :)

Amulet, book 2.
To save their mother from poison, Emily and Navin's travel to Kanalis to find help. Of course, this leads them deeper into danger, both from Emily's amulet and several powerful enemies.
Emily also meets an ally, Leon Redbeard, though she's not convinced that he can be trusted. They make the dangerous journey to Demon's Head Mountain to find the antidote that will cure her mother.
Lots of action and a bit more character development.
