Benar-benar melesat secepat kilat membuat aku seringkali serasa tidak bernafas saat membacanya. Yang agak mengganggu menurutku ada 2 hal. I was in the mood for a thrilling adventure book, so I decided to try out Andy McDermott's "Hunt for Atlantis". Exciting and full of action? Yes. Believable? Not even close. Entertaining? Enough. Although it won't be known as a classic, it did it's job well enough.

The Hunt for Atlantis by Andy McDermott represents a genre that is one of my guilty pleasures: action/adventure novels. As Publisher's Weekly said, McDermott "raises the bar to please adventure junkies who prefer to mainline their action." And that is the reality here. The Hunt for Atlantis is a fast paced, globetrotting novel that has plenty of action. It is like a merge of Indiana Jones and 24. Really. The novel goes from one adventure plus narrow escape to another.

I have read some good things about this author. He is a former movie critic (thumbs up on that) and seems to be a well reviewed new action writer. Okay, I’ll bite. But before I spend $5.99 on a single Kindle version I will sneak over to the used bookstore (now located at the flea market, go figure) and buy his first THREE novels for $5. If I don’t like the other two novels, I can line the litter box with them (many a dreadful book has ended up as cat poop catcher).

This book reminded me heavily of something off of the SciFi channel, sort of like a movie of the week. Not in a bad way- if this book had been a SciFi movie it would've been one of the better ones- possibly even a pilot episode to a series. After I finished the book & read the short blip about the author, the comparison made a lot of sense. Andy McDermott used to be a movie critic, so it would be reasonable to think that he'd write with movies in mind.

This was my third book about in 6 months that had a story about Atlantis so I have to say that my expectations wasnt very high. I had read some very good reviews on the book and that is why I bought it. I won this book on Goodreads. It's not something that I would normally pick up, but it seemed interesting enough. The book doesn't use Nazis in the traditional way that most action books/movies do (although it mentions this), but instead uses a more modern day application of Nazi thought. Still, it seems that any action writer, when struggling for a good idea, can pick up the Nazis and use them as the meat of their plot. As my Logic professor in C More...

Unorthodoxly, I ended up reading Mc Dermotts second novel - The Tomb Of Hurcules first, and so I had a fair knowledge of how this book would play out. Fortunately this did not ruin the story, and although it wandered into the realms of fantasy a little too often, it was brought back to reality with several thrilling scenes and a fantastic ending, an absolute must for lovers of adventure.

I picked this up expecting some cliche, quirky Indiana Jones novel, and while it was this to some extent, I was pleased to find that this novel delivered what felt like a very polished adventure. From Iran, to Brazil, Tibet and beyond, this story takes us to a variety of settings and the plots at each location never get boring. The legend of Atlantis has intrigued the world for thousands of years - an ancient civilization that was far advanced for the times but vanished under mysterious circumstances and it's location still a mystery to this day. It's incredibly fertile ground for authors to explore, and in some ways, I think all of these new stories will add to the lore.

This was a great book. The cover says something to effect of "The most exciting adventure novel you'll read this year" and I have to admit it very well may be. This has a lot of great moments, including a reference to Hitchhiker's Guide, which always makes me happy as a reader.

I won this book on Goodreads. The promo blurb sounded interesting, hence my signing up to win. Unfortunately, not one of my favorite novels.

This book is the first in an action/thriller series featuring almost all of the cliches of the genre...power mad billionaire, beautiful but deadly daughter of said billionaire...plucky, intelligent, but also beautiful scientist lady...rogueishly charming ex-special forces hero...plot to destroy/save the world...global hopping scene settings...legends and myths come true...things that go boom...cool new tech toys...lots of high caliber gun play...nick of time escapes and improbable stunts.

This is a first-time author for me, and his first book. Blurbs said that it was published in 20 countries and millions of books were sold, yada yada. Well, it WAS a great story - all about the search for Atlantis - but it felt like the journalist author tried to hard to write a screenplay for a new Indiana Jones/Lara Croft blockbuster. Ceritanya seru dengan adegan baku tembak, yang dirinci dengan detail dari halaman pertama sampai terakhir, tidak pernah berhenti.
Sepertinya lebih asyik kalo lihat difilmnya saja. Karena membaca semua adegan pertarungan seperti itu secara terus menerus membuat saya capek. Jadi justru tidak ingin cepat-cepat selesai, malah menundanya.

This is every inch a thriller. Plot-driven and a real page-turner, the character depth is shallow and the action is deep. There were times I found my suspension of disbelief stretched almost to snapping point, as the hero (mostly) and the heroine escaped multiple life-threatening events that would have seen ordinary mortals well and truly dead. A new, for me, series in the vein of James Rollins & Matthew Reilly that stars Dr. Nina Wilde & ex-SAS Eddie Chase. This outing was dedicated to finding the ever elusive Atlantis. Seriously, this book reads like a Michael Bay adrenaline-retarded popcorn flick... and that's not necessarily a bad thing. I flew this book in 2 days, laughed out loud a few times, and thought on multiple occasions about how this really, really could be a wonderful fluff action flick.

I needed a book for an upcoming trip, and found this in the library. It sounded interesting enough, and light enough, for my trip.
The story was interesting, and the ideas were not new but certainly well presented. What kept me from loving the book, though, was the absence of texture in the characters. I felt that I was reading a movie script that expects the actors to flesh out the characters. Rather wooden dialogue didn't help at all.
