Both stories had great promises but none of the lived up to what I was expecting. The first one by Kay Hooper was a bit better.

Kleypas' Surrender was very similar to Lions and Laces.....but the perfect amount of angst intermingled with sweetness...longing with love...and want with fulfillment. I love love loved it. Greatread :)

Holiday Spirit by Kay Hooper – Although Holiday Spirit had the well-worn romance novel cliché of a misunderstanding coupled with a lack of communication as it's main premise, there was the added uniqueness of some ghostly characters and the intrigue of the ill-fated love affair of Antonia's ancestors to help enliven the plot. Sometimes in a novella, it can be difficult for the author to fully capture the essence of their characters, but Kay Hoo

Huh!

Sesuai dengan judul ceritanya, Surrender, bercerita mengenai cara Jason membuat istri

What a wonderful way to begin your Christmas Season. I am a huge fan of Lisa Kleypas and could not believe I had never saw this book before. Let this be a lesson to others. If you have a favorite author you can never check too often to see if certain novels show up around the season. Kay Hooper is a new author for me but a very pleasant surprise. The first story begins with her but I must confess I flipped through my Kindle until I found LK's story and read hers first. LOL

It consist of two stories, the first one is Holiday Spirit by Kay Hooper. I give this 3 stars. The plot is about Antonia who still loved her former fiance, Richard, despite her calling off their engagement. Lady Ware, Antonia's grandmother, knew she still loved Richard all this time, and tried to reconcile them by inviting Richard to their private Christmas holiday in her secluded castle. Still feel for Antonia, Richard accepted her invitation and tried to seduce Antonia. Their encounter with lo ...more

I really enjoyed Hooper's story of ghosts aiding a pair of ex-lovers, but Kleypas' story was DREADFUL. If that is an alpha male hero, you can keep them.

At the start of the story the hero promises the heroine he won't hurt her again, then spends the rest of it physically and mentally abusing her any time he wants, and she takes it. She might as well have let him wipe his work-stained boots on her fancy clothes as she stomps all over her. It makes me SO MAD!

Jason and Laura are a married Boston couple who are virtual strangers with one another. Jason has married Laura because she is the perfect blue blood to his Irishman. Laura has married Jason because..well you have to just read it to find out why. One holiday season finds their worlds finally clashing as they were always meant to.

I really wished this book had been longer. I love the estranged couples/marriages in trouble that prevail in the end plot lines. I think out of anyone to fall in love wi

I chose this Christmas themed book for the Lisa Kleypas story but enjoyed the first one Holiday Spirit by Kay Hooper. The short story involved ghosts who want to help an estranged couple get together. Antonia and her mom were invited to spend Christmas in her Grandmother's castle in Wales. She didn't know that the only other party member invited was her ex fiance Richard Lyonshall. Antonia also didn't know a snowstorm would prevent them all from leaving for weeks. We find their break up occurred ...more

True love is like ghosts, which everyone talks about and few have seen.

2 Christmas stories, 1 paranormal Regency. 1 late 1800 American story.

Kay Hooper - 4 stars. A Regency paranormal with ghosts. Antonia "jilted" her fiance, a handsome Duke 2 years previous. No one knows why, least of all the Duke. Invited to her grandmother's remote castle for Christmas with both of them ensconsed in a secluded wing of the castle, they meet the ghosts. In uncovering the history of the castle & the identity of the ghosts, Antonia & the Duke finally talk about their probl

Lisa Kleypas writes a heartfelt love story of trust over prejudices in old Boston. Jason and Laura's story truly touch the season of giving...worth adding to your library just for this one alone...4 solid stars.
First time I've read Kay Hooper. Her tale is also of trust, played out in two different that is in ghostly images. I liked the hero Richard, his reactions to circumstances felt believable. But the heroine Laura did not show enuf deepth of reasoning or common sense despite
Both were extremely well written stories (face it, Lisa Kleypas can rewrite the phonebook into a masterpiece). Had issues with the characterization of the heroes in both novellas, hence the 3 star rating.

Si cewek nyebelin banget -_- (wlpn gw lmyn ska dgn cara cerita si Kay Hooper). Gw takut gw keburu melempar buku ini sebelum gw smpe ke bagian Lisa Kleypas, jd gw lompat deh (hap hap)

I only read the novel by Lisa Kleypas because that was the only one that seemed interesting to me. I didn't feel like reading the other novel but I was glad I read Kleypas's novel. It was a cute and very romantic novel. I always liked the concept where a girl learns to fall in love with her husband. It just seems so cute and realistic. I thought this story was short but the best short story I ever read. I really liked it and I would have given it 5 stars if there was an epilogue or if it was a ...more

A Holiday Spirit by Kay Hooper: 3/5 (C)

As you well know by now, I'm quite a fan of Kay Hooper... so when I saw this anthology coming out, I jumped on it. This story was nice, but there's one problem: too short. Well that was to be expected from a novella. Although I find it stupid for Antonia to have ended her engagement that way, without confronting Richard, I can understand. I didn't thought much of Antonia, but I really liked Richard :P For once, someone's that is not a rake!!! Quite refreshi

I just finished this book for the second time and I'm sure I'll be reading it again in the future. While I've read and enjoyed many romances, this is one of the few that I loved and that really stuck with me. I love the characters and plots of both stories and really have nothing negative to say about them. The historical settings were great and the progression of the couples' relationships was more realistic than in many romances where people meet and end up married like, a week later.

This was a quick re-read of these two stories. The only reason it got three stars instead of two was because it was a unique take on the romance angle. These were light-hearted stories, which you really didn’t have to think about to figure the stories out. If you want an easy read and unique take on ghosts read this book. It is very interesting to see what they did, and is worth the couple of dollars I actually spent on the book.

Two great stories that made for two great introductions to these authors that I had never heard of before. Although I find myself rereading Surrender more, Holiday Spirit sticks itself in my mind often too. I won't tell you what it's about because I'm lazy and there are others who have already written summaries but these are great reads. They both have their sad sections but they end happily...and that's all you need to know XD

I loved Kay Hoopers book it was great uplifting happy ending type and easy to understand. I loved the nosey grandma and the tricks she played. Then the second half was Lisa Kleypas book and then I couldn't figure out which book I liked more. My favorite part of this book was the attitude change of the main character. Also the snowball fight hehe. This was a great combination of 2 books.
