Kaffee Fassett's textile designs are awesome and inspiring. I borrowed this book from the library for some inspiration in planning a new quilt using his fabric. What I realized --- and not too surprised over this -- is that none of the patterns from the book would be ones I'd tackle as I'm not an accomplished quilter. But hey, I can dream and still enjoy these mouthwatering, delicious examples of quilting as art.
My favorites are "Morning Garden Quilt" (I'm planning a modified version as my first big quilt), "Little Boxes Quilt," "Bottle Pinwheel Quilt" (I'm planning a modified version for my second big quilt), and "Broken Dishes Quilt." One of the quilts in this book, Told You So Baskets Quilt, can be purchased as a kit from his website. It is among the 15 or so other quilts that are okay, but don't inspire me. The patterns are mostly traditional and pretty simple nothing new, but the quilts are gorgeous pure eye candy. Stunning vibrant quilts all photographed in beautiful European settings. I didn't buy this for the patterns just inspiration. With a nice selection of traditional patterns and clear easy to follow instructions I think this would make a great book for beginners.
