at first blush, i didn't like this book b/c i totally do not agree with the "manifestation" belief system so prevalent today. it is a very small god, made in our own self-serving image, who can be made to do the bidding of our petty desires: the gimmee-gimmee god.

however, i do believe in grace and in being open to grace and goodness; and i certainly believe in right behavior, esp. as zen buddhism defines it.

this book, on first blush, seemed to focus totally on More...

I read this book recently as it was a gift from a friend and found I enjoyed it very much. It was written in the 1920s and yet it still has a lot of relevance today. I believe its philosophy, though I don't entirely agree with it, is positive and helpful to many who may have found themselves in a rut or a negative state of mind. One thing that struck me about this book was how similar it was to a more recent self-help book -- 'The Secret.' After reading this book, it's pretty obvious that 'The S More...

My Mom originally found this book at a random restaurant. She fell in love with and gave a copy to many people. Fifteen years later life was kicking me in the pants and I saw the book on her shelf and read it for the first time. For me this book is life transforming. I continue to read it as I need to and I have memorized specific mediations. I hope this book will bring the same peace to you as it brought to me.

Another important book to keep by your side. Important yet potent reminders about what you think you get.

Written in the 1940's it is just as relevant today as it was when written back then.

Easy to read - no nonsense.

Read and re-read to keep on and stay on track.

It gives me the ideas how to live in hope and peace that also open my mind to step back and look at situations with calmness. However, in order to make a long term life transformation, I must stick with and keep reminding myself with these ideas everyday.

I loved the simple and direct language of the book, as well as her many vivid anecdotes. Florence Scovel Shinn was a talented artist and a highly intelligent woman, and her kindly, yet pragmatic wisdom shines through this volume.

Repeat after me “I will do wonderful work for wonderful pay.” And within just a few weeks of saying and believing this, you will get a big fat raise. This is the divine right.

If only it was that easy.

A good example of the genre with a lot of real-life examples a la Catherine Ponder, and more of a scripture-based approach. I recently re-read it, I'm sure I read it at some point in my 20s, because I internalized some of it.

A book of affirmations i found browsing te book shelves, it as a quick read that left a profound effect. You are what you think you are, think well and so it will be. Loved it, gave it away whenever I met someone...

Received this as a gift from a teacher many years ago. A good lesson in affirmations and faith in God. I've given many copies away and continue to read it again when I'm feeling low or want to stay positive.

Mixed fealings on this one. Written in 1920s. Some of the same ideas as in the more recent "The Secret". Liked thoughts on the power of words and the subconscious. Seemed a bit fixated on money. I didn't like quite a bit of the terminology, for example "demanding" things.

Although written so long ago, this little ditty contains such wisdom that can be applied to our lives today. It certainly is a "Prosperity Classic." I loved it and would highly recommend it.

I love the message in this book. Considering the time it was written, I'm very impressed. However, the author cites many vague, contrived sounding examples, that lost me a little.

Life lessons to consider, copyrighted in 1925. A bent toward a religious presentation, but not out of the realm for consciousness realization.

Written nearly 90 years ago this classic from Florence Scovel Shinn has sure sold its fair share of copies over the years! The author shares valuable information on the law of attraction, which was recently covered fairly well in the movie and book ‘The Secret’.

The book is a hit and miss. On one hand it provides good information and many examples of the law of attraction at work. New readers on this topic are sure to find it interesting. Though on the other hand the book becomes very More...

Like a shot of espresso, Shinn's book is a wonderful pick-me-up ingested in a few quick sips. A good reminder it's YOUR OWN ATTITUDE that makes the difference in life.

This was a short little book written back in the 1920s/30s. Parts of it where very cool, like thinking positively about things instead of living in the negative and succumbing to fear. Other parts were a little strange, as if the author is saying that there are no accidents. Everything happens because we make it happen - good or bad. I don't know if I believe all of that or if I believe in the author's telling me to spend money like I'm rich and then soon I will be rich. She has a religious back More...

I was recommended this book at a time in my life when everything seemed out of control. I would never have imagined that a book this old (from 1925) would be so timelessly relevant. It changed the way I think about everything. Instead of defining my life by what I don't want/don't like I learned how to define what I want, making sure I'm allowing it to come to me and how to see signs that God's all-loving universe is sending it to me. It taught me that God wants an abundance of money, love More...

Although written in 1925, Florence Scovel Shinn's prosperity wisdom still has relevance today. Her message is simple--bless others and ask for what you want from the abundance of the Universe. The key, as always, is putting her guidance into practice.

It sounds silly, and the book can be a bit basic, but I am telling you there is priceless info in this book. I read it when I was very young. It tells you how to manipulate the physical plane through the understanding of metaphysical and universal laws. If you know what I mean, and if you believe in that. This changed some things in my life that you wouldn't even believe if I told you ;)
