I am currently reading Killer Pizza by Greg Taylor.I'm at the part were a guy from the Echo 8-Plex movie theater is about to leave but a monster stings him and makes him faint. I think the author dose a good job of putting a lot of details like the place was at a dead end and it hodgepodge of business. I think me and Toby have things in common like we both like comics and we both see things like shadows and creatures. Each time I open up this book and imagine the Killer Pizza restaurant I...more

Enjoyable and brisk. Clearly written for the MG crowd - macabre things are happening in town, though the book stops short of going all the way (death/horrific events toned down for the kiddies). I am not a gore-lover by any means, but even though the book is called "Killer Pizza" and features supernatural blood-suckers, the book is more action than horror. I would have liked it more if it was scarier/the least bit tense - then again, I am an adult, so whereas I shrug my shoulders perhaps a ten-y...more
Positive Points
The main character's voice was great. Toby is an average kid with a passion for cooking nobody knows about. I could relate with him in many ways. His growth from an insecure kid to a bold, courageous monster fighter is gradual and realistic. I found myself cheering for him and celebrating his success.
The Guttata is a unique kind of monster I didn't know about. So refreshing! Makes a change from werewolves and vampires. I did a quick Google search, thinking it may be a mythical cre...more

reluctant teen readers of horror or action
This book has a fun premise: three teens are hired by a local pizza delivery place, only to discover that it's a front for an international monster-hunting organization, and their jobs were just a pretext for recruiting them into the group. The (probably) main character, Toby, is sort of a drifter in his own life: he starts things, then gives up before he gets very far, mainly because there isn't anything he really cares about...except cooking, which he's too shy about to admit to anyone. Workin...more
Killer Pizza by Greg Taylor follows Toby a boy who is thrilled to start his new job at Killer Pizza. He starts work with his co-workers Strobe and Anabelle and everything is going well when his boss Harvey tells them that the pizza shop is a front for an organization that hunts and kills monsters to keep the human population safe. Toby and his friends start their training while also dealing with an infestation of Gruttatas, a disgusting monster that bites and transforms humans.

This was one of those silly books that I just saw and thought "I have got to read that!" This book was better than I expected, not quite as silly, and more interesting.
Toby is kind of your typical geek; and with his best friend out of town for the summer, he feels like the best thing to do with his time is get a job. Well he gets one at Killer Pizza. When he shows up for his first day of training he is surprised to find that the most popular girl in the school, Anabel, is also working there...as...more

Toby is a fourteen year old kid in small town Ohio with a dream to be a chef some day. So in his efforts to find a summer job he lands one, at Killer Pizza, the new joint in town, which just happens to be a front for a monster extermination service that recruits kids his age to be trained to get rid of the baddies.
The baddies in what I guess is just the introductory book in a series is the Guttata, a gargoyle like creature that is like werewolves and vamps in that if you get bit, you turn into...more

Toby McGill doesn't ask for much. He'd like to get a summer job. After all, he's 14, he doesn't have many friends and he's very bored. However, Toby has plans of becoming a celebrity chef, so he just needs some practice. Enter Killer Pizza. It's the only place to hire Toby, where he works with Annabel (a beautiful, smart and rich classmate) and Strobe (an angry older boy).
However, all is not as it seems at Killer Pizza. Instead of a pizza place with a monster theme, it's actually a front for a m...more

I picked up the book yesterday while taking my class to the library. I have to admit to being attracted to the title and the cover. I checked Amazon which said it was a fun light read and was endorsed by RL Stine. I have never read any Stine books but I'm familiar with the genre.
I read the entire book in one sitting while waiting at the doctor's office.
It's cute. It's not in any way deep. It's actually a pretty good beach read. The librarian marked it with a reading level of 4.4 (4th grade, 4th...more

Some kids find out they are really a wizard with magical powers. Some kids find out their dad is a Greek God. Other kids work at a pizza shop.
But wait, Killer Pizza isn’t just any pizza shop. Sure it puts out tasty, cheesy pies, but Killer Pizza is much more. Killer Pizza is the front for a top-secret monster fighting organization that recruits and trains top notch monster hunters.

Okay so I didn't know this book existed until I about 2 weeks ago. I was in class and was supposed to be reading but I left my novel at home and didn't really want to skim threw any of the poor selection of books we have in my classroom at the back. Since my friend had two books with him. Killer Pizza being one of them and The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan the other. He wanted to read The Red Pyramid and I'd already read it anyways (really good book by the way)so I decided to read Killer Pizza no...more

I chose this book because of the title killer pizza that really caught my eye. This sounded like a entertaining book. The book is about a boy named Toby he is 14 years old boy and during the summer he works at a pizza place named killer pizza. While working there with his two other co workers they quickly find out that it is a cover up for a monster catching orginization. Now Toby and his friends basically train to catch these monsters that roam there town. The problem is that the monsters can...more
Killer Pizza is a fun book that both upper and lower level YAs will love. It has a paranormal/supernatural component, since the kids are fighting monsters, but it's a bit more light than most YA paranormal/supernatural books. It's a fun read, and the pizzeria setting makes it even more fun. Boys and girls will both like this one. I held a "Books and Pizza" Night at the Library for the Young Adults. I let everyone bring in either their favorite book or the book they're currently reading. Each chi...more

Killer Pizza was an interesting book that Iread a couple of weeks ago. The main character Toby, lands a job at Killer pizza, which was a pizza shop best know for their "pizzas to die for." He loves being part of the team and he really likes his job because he dreams of becoming a chef. Hs co workers were cool, and he thought his summer job was perfect. What he later finds out is that killer pizaa is really the hiding place for a monster hunting organization! He is trained and carefully set out o...more
Hahaha. . .this was a cute book! Loved the references to FoodNetwork! The cooking aspect of Toby made him all the more interesting and I loved the interplay between the three MCOs. The owner of Killer Pizza makes you laugh when you find out who he is! So funny that. . . no I will not give anything away. . .
I felt the the monsters were a little over the top (an Alpha who secreates saliva for his minions? Really?) but they were definitely strange and new (no vampires or werewolves here!)

I read a book named Killer Pizza by Greg Taylor. Killer Pizza is about a boy named Toby who likes to cook and reveals it by joining a restaurant called Killer Pizza and soon discovers that it is an elite monster hunter group that is set out to defeat a monster called the guttata that have been killing people in the area. As Toby progresses through the Monster Training he develops skills of fighting. All goes well, until someone is kidnapped, and held for death... I liked Strobe, he is one of Tob...more
Toby Magill is a 14 year old who just wants a summer job to earn some money and avert boredom. He also is a closet afficionado of the Food Channel. Then Toby finds out that the pizza shop is a front for the serious business of protecting mankind from the monsters among us, namely the guttata who are planning a Gathering in Hidden Hills,...more

I'm reading the book Killer Pizza and I'm on page 223. Toby says goodbye to Strobe while Toby is in the intersection and a BMW honked the horn and drived by Toby. Toby decided to go home and experiment with new Killer Pizza Flavors to calm him down. Later, Toby decides to watch TV and Chris Child (a Guttata) appears with his head popping out from behind the TV and tries to attack Toby.

Decent writing and characters are marred by a plot that is a poorly conceived variation on the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Men In Black." (And other stories of paranormal monster hunter squads.) In this case, however, there's little new or innovative to recommend the story - the change of venue from a high school library to a pizza parlor doesn't create any real changed or improved dynamic. And some noticeable technical errors - calling a rifle scope a "viewfinder" and a laser sight a "laser...more
This book was recommended to me by a couple of my classmates, and boy do they got so awsome taste! I thought the story was well put together, but a flaw for me was the characterization. It sucked. Toby should have been a little more in shape, and reading comics everyday doesn't fit in right with the non-stop action. Another flaw is a draggy part in the middle, but we don't want to give anything away, do we? Other than those to things, the story was magnificent, and the action was wicked. Because...more
