This was one of my favorites so far in the Bishop/Special Crimes Unit books by Kay Hooper. I've enjoyed the series extremely. Unfortunately in my research to find more on this author, I think I have read these books out of chronological order. I hate when I do that, but it does explain some of the inconsistencies I encountered.

More about Bishop is revealed including his past and his abilities. Sheriff Miranda Knight is introduced in this installment and she is quite the paranormal. H More...

Having read the first two in the Shadows series by Kay Hooper, I was really disappointed when I'd finished reading Out of the Shadows. This novel was nowhere near the same standard of writing as the first or second. Sheriff Miranda Knight is psychic and has escaped to a small town in America, where she has changed her name to escape her past.

Miranda's past is referred to throughout the book, however the complete story came far too late and after waiting so long to find out, it was almo More...

The final book in the first trilogy of the Bishop / CSI series brings back Noah Bishop, this time as the main character.
Ever since the first book, Bishop has intrigued me. In the first book we realize he had a troubled past and that he is looking for someone, in the second book there is very little of him, only enough to keeps us in suspense. In this third book, we finally find who he was looking for and we find out what happened in the past.

Miranda Knight is the sherif More...

This was a very interesting books with mystery, supernatural and some spookiness. Ms. Hooper is from Rutherfordon where my husband works. I wish I had not read this one first as it is the 3rd in a series of "Shadows" books by her. I probably will not go back and read 1 and 2 since I've read 3. Instead I will chose another first from her various series. I enjoyed her writing and stayed up late to finish this one. I am proud to say that NC has many excellent authors and I am looking More...

Synopsis: A picture-perfect Tennessee town has just become a monster's hunting ground. Two bodies are found tortured to death. A third person goes missing. What little evidence is left behind defies all explanation. Is the terror just beginning? Or have the good citizens of Gladstone harbored a dark secret for a long time? Sheriff Miranda Knight is determined to make her small town safe once more.

And she does what she swore she would never do: involve FBI profiler Noah Bishop. He's t More...

SHORT VERSION: AVOID THIS BOOK, AVOID THIS AUTHOR

okay, this is trash reading, but, jeez, i expected better. kay hooper is a ny times bestselling author and after reading this book i couldn't tell you why.

i only gave the book two stars because i at least finished it. let me tell you why i despised it, even for light reading.

the book is a mystery, but practically every character has some "special ability"--they are psychic, they are mediums, they h More...

Miranda Knight is a small town sheriff running from her past with FBI Special Agent Noah Bishop. However, a series of murders brings them back together. As they work out the deep problems with their relationship and the protection of Miranda's adept sister, the murders start piling up. Using a combination of their special skills, the murderer is finally brought to justice, but the cost seems very high. Good suspense.

I really enjoyed this book once I figured out the author had intentionally written it to leave the reader up in the air about what was going on with the main characters (Bishop and Melinda.) For the first half of the book I was really confused. I thought I must have missed something in the first two books, or even missed a prequel somewhere. I went so far as to look up her book list and read the summaries. Once the relationship "mystery" started to unfold, however, I could relax and en More...

I am truly mesmerized by Hooper's novels. This one was stirring, scary and the pace just flies. The suspense never lets up. I was so sure the killer was one of the deputies, then I thought it was Marsh, then I didn't know what to think. I even thought there for awhile it might even have been Liz! As always, Hooper kept me guessing til the end and I was utterly stunned.

Can't wait for my eyes to read those first few words of the next novel!!

Though part of a series this book was interesting to read. All I could think of was this story was the TV show Criminal Minds with a psychic twist way out there sort of TV shows The Mentalist, Medium and Ghost Whisperer all rolled up into one. Some of the story was a little gory for my taste but all in all I liked this book.

Sort of a cross between a paranormal and psychological thriller. The plot reminded me vaguely of a Dean Koontz novel in that it has enough weird twists and turns that I didn't mind recognizing the chief villian within the first third of the story. The author has (many, many) other novels that I'll be searching out.

The only thing this series has in common is FBI agent Noah Bishop and various other people with psychic abilities. While Bishop does not have a starring role in the first two books in this series, he is one of the main characters in this novel, the third book in the Shadows trilogy. I found this book the most unbelievable of the three, too many characters with psychic abilities, too few skeptics. However, the premise of story and the crimes committed were more chilling in this book. Also, the me More...

Bishop story is in this book and it was and still is one of my favorites in this series. It always nice to read a little more about Ms. Bishop since he is after all the "Big Gun" in this unit. Definately read this book in this series!

Very good story...lots of paranormal twists and there is no way I will ever mess with a Ouija board after reading this book.

I hope Kay Hooper features these characters in her other books. I really enjoyed their story.

Liked this one really well. It was my second Kay Hooper and even though I usually don't like my Feds to go paranormal this one delivered it pretty nicely. Yes, that it was a sexy Fed helped quite a bit ;-)

A great ending to the Shadows trilogy. Hooper once again throws in a great twist at the end. Tons of suspense, plus there's Miranda and Bishop.

This is a a great thriller by Kay Hooper, the third in the series, which has a lot of twists. A serial killer is praying on teenagers and making them his victims in a small town in Tennessee. It's up to Sheriff Miranda Knight to figure out why, and then later, later to bring in the FBI. And that includes her former lover, Agent Noah Bishop, along with his team, to profile the killer. Meanwhile an evil spirit is after her sister Bonnie. This has plenty of suspense to keep you guessing to the end More...
