Who says lesbians don’t have a sense of humor? The opening pages of the The Sublime and Spirited Voyage of the Original Sin had me chortling. Failing to obtain the services of a doctor to tend their wounds, a gang of pirates makes off with his fiancé, the town seamstress. Emerging from hiding after the kidnapping, the doctor is relieved to discover the pirates didn’t take anything of real value. Not surprisingly, Celia, his fiancée, is dissatisfied with his tepid response to her peril.

This lesbian pirate novel is an erotic fantasy with just enough historical flavour to add spice. It features the clever repartee of a vintage romantic comedy and the rip-roaring action of a pirate film from the 1940s. (The author has acknowledged such “historical” sources as an influence on her writing.) Some of the banter between major characters suggests the duets in The Pirates of Penzance (nineteenth-century operetta by Gilbert and Sullivan).

It is hard to find a lesbian romance novel with a witty story line that does not borderline the criteria of an erotica. There is an equal ratio of sex, adventure, and humor to keep one well entertained and hungr...more
This book was worth reading.
-It had interesting adventures, instead of a single plot.
-The characters were entertaining with their emberrasing moments, and were also lively.
-The action was a good addition and it wasn't dull. They were simple, but not enough to be boring.
-The "mature" scenes were not so constant, but it was well balanced in the story, and the development of a relationship was great.

This one is different from all the other lesbian pirate stories out there. It’s a light, entertaining read with some great dialogue and lots of humor. The author managed not to stop the story by dumping information about the setting on us.
The only irritating thing for me was the point of view, which included head hopping and wasn’t very deep — little reflection and no deep insight into the characters’ emotion. But then again, maybe it fits the light feel and quick pace of the novel.

This was the beachiest of beach reads. The dialogue made me laugh out loud at times and the story was, well, ridiculous. But it's a lesbian pirate romance novel. Eh, what do you really expect? Normally, I'd give it 3 stars for a beach read but this was, honestly, fun to read and exactly what I needed on a day home with a miserable cold. So it gets 4, mostly for being ridiculous in a good way.
