frier's disquisition is emphatic and meticulous, though will only be of interest to an already revering student of saramago's works. academic in composition, the book explores common thematical elements prevalent throughout the senhor's novels, including privilege, exclusion, resistance, alienation, socioeconomic relations, power, permanence, change, negation, escape, transformation, death, and love. while it would be impossible (and certainly not desirable) to fully assess so formidable a body ...more
