The Renegade Hunter (Argeneau #12)
by
Lynsay Sands
Nicholas Argeneau was once a successful hunter who went after rogue vampires who break the immortal law. Except no one has mentioned his name in the last fifty years, not since he turned into a rogue himself. But once a hunter, always a hunter. When Nicholas sees a bloodthirsty sucker terrifying a woman, it’s second nature for him to come to her rescue. He had no idea he w...more

Now this was a fantastic read!
While the first two books in the Rogue Hunters series were good, i didn't feel they were in the same level as the Argeneau's. Now i can see why the stories didn't seem to have much "meat". They were actually building up to this book, which to me looks like the catalyst to the series.

I thought I knew all the direct members of the Argeneau family but it seems that the author forgot to mention, the renegade hunter Nicholas Argeneau. Nicholas Argeneau, a member of the elite Atlantean (immortal) family, was formerly an enforcer who hunted immortals who broke the rules of the council, but fifty years ago he became the hunted after his cousin Decker Argeneau Pimms (allegedly his best friend) discovered him with blood in his mouth holding the dead body of a pregnant woman. The only...more
Sam and Mortimer (from previous book the Rogue Hunter) have thrown a party inviting all of their Immortal friends. The reason for this party? To find Sam's sisters Jo and Alex lifemates so that Sam can tell her sisters the big secret and turn. Unknown to them all Nicholas Argeneau (from the previous book the Immortal Hunter) is keeping a close eye on the party, watching for any sign of Rogues and it's a good thing he was.

Copied from my blog:
While it's classified simply as "fiction" on the cover, this book really should be "paranormal romance" (or at least "urban fantasy") to make it easier for fans to find. There are vampires and there is romance, and most readers of "general fiction" probably won't be all that interested. That said, it's a decent entry in the "para-rom" genre. The writing is competent, though not inspired, and doesn't get in the way of the...more
You would think after 12 of these books that I would grow tired of them. While they do have a very similar plot point, immortal finds lifemate, etc, each book and characters are very different and somehow each book ends up being fresh and fun.
I really enjoyed this installment in the Argeneau series. Jo and Nicholas were both great characters. I really loved Jo, she was so sassy and funny and smart. She kept Nicholas on his toes, and that's hard to do with someone who is centuries...more

I have always been fan of Lynsay Sands The Argeneau series, I have been following this series since I discovered this author and that has been while ago. I do not know what it is about these books but I always get excited about reading them. I mean I have my favourites and then I have my not so favourites, but that is how it goes with all series.

1.5 stars - It had moments, but the unsatisfying ending left me frustrated
Renegade Hunter has a good hero in Nicholas Argenau, a rogue hunter gone rogue, now hunted by his fellow hunters - but still noble and still on the job hunting down bad rogue vampires- and a decent heroine in Jo Willin (,sister to Sam from Immortal Hunter) who is feisty and who is insightful enough to question the circumstance which made Nicholas a rogue even though all the other hunters were willing to a...more

since we moved to the rogue hunter part of the series the writing has taken on a much ore serious tone and lost a lot of the humor and playfulness that was in the argeneau series. this book featured an argeneau, nicholas, and so it did have some of the usual suspects from the family show up. they brought in some laughs as well as small updates on how their lives were going.

Spoilers ahead:
I waited a VERY long time for this book to come out. It was the story of Nicholas who "turned rogue" and was banished in a way from seeing his family. He was constantly on the run to avoid being executed. Kicker is, he's not guilty of the crime, and it takes a spunky woman named Jo (short for Josephine) to help him discover this. When she asks him point blank if he killed the mortal he was accused of killing (framed more like it), he keeps saying I "apparently"...more

This is book 12 in the Argeneau Family series, and book 3 in the Rogue Hunter series. Our hero this time out is Nicholas, who we learned in the previous book is a rogue immortal. Fifty years ago he was a rogue hunter himself, but after his wife was killed in a freak accident, he murdered a pregnant woman who resembled her. He’s been on the run as a rogue since that time.

This book was horrible and I hardly ever say that about a book expecialy if it has vampires and romance. This book though was such a let down. the first thing I got really tired of was all the meaningless explaining of everyday things. The author was constantly interupting the action with stupid detials. Jo had to do this and then this and then this some more when it had nothing to do with what was going on with the story!!! The concept of the nanos was pretty cool but "nofangers" just...more
I have enjoyed all of the Lynsay's Sands books they are fast paced, humorous, enjoyable, and a fun read. If you are looking for vampiric angst, dark fantasy or shocking horror you won’t find it here but this light-hearted romance. The Argeneau vampires are not traditional vampires, they call themselves Immortals and the only traits that they share with vampires are longevity, strength, mind control abilities and a hunger for blood. They are not undead, they can go out in the day, eat garlic, hav...more
I strongly recommend reading a few of the series that directly preceed this one. I have read the first 3 or 4, then #10, then this one and I found myself slightly confused at who certain people are and what their stories were. Most importantly the new 'big bad' and 'no-fanger'. It was 3/4ths into the book before I learned both who and what it was. The mystery that is in the background for the entire novel make you want to keep reading and, while it is not solved in this novel, it is solved in th...more
Another great one by Sands. This book is about Nicholas Argeneau who was considered a Rogue vampire for over 50 years. He used to be an enforcer until the day he was found holding a dead woman with blood all over him. For over 50 years he has been running and hiding. During those years he continues his enforcer role on his own by helping others without being caught by his former employers.

This series is fairly predictable, but what keeps me reading is the fun of life mates finding each other and the craziness that ensues. This book was no different. In a previous book Sam found her life mate and now wants to find ones for her sisters. The whole party and the guys coming up to her sisters cracked me up, especially later when Jo starts calling the look the men give to see if they can read the girls the "penis eye stare." How funny is that!! While this book did have a...more

Since this novel is going to be released in January '12 in Germany, I won't review it in German right now. I might do it later, since I'll probably read the German copy for the LYX-reading-Challenge, but well.. ;)
This was certainly one of the better Argeneau novels. It appears that Nick's popular – Many other reviews on Goodreads are more positive compared to the reviewers' other Argeneau-ratings.

Third in the Rogue Hunter series by Lynsay Sands, but also 12th in the Argeneau series. Confusing? Nah. It's a sub-plot based in the same world with overlapping characters. The Hunter books are a little bit less silly fun, a little bit more action. They still have great characters that I can't help but like. I liked this one a little bit more than the other 2 Hunter books. Nickolas is super-appealing, sort of a bad boy, still a hero. I also enjoyed Jo's smart mouth, especially when she was calli...more

Good read, much better than the previous book [Immortal Hunter:]. Nicholas [introduced in the previous book:] was a good hero and Jo was a more 'together' heroine than some of the others in this series. Unfortunately, to create the situations where our hero comes to her rescue the other Hunters have to appear pretty incompetent. [Let's just say I wouldn't want to rely on them to protect MY body from hungry bad guys...:] And then there's another semi-cliffhanger ending which apparently is qui...more

With each of these books I get more attached to the characters! I have not been reading this series in the correct order - read Rogue Hunter #2, then #1 and this one is #3...but there are a bunch of books on either side of these books as well, so I've got a nice long list and will now go back to the first book of the 'big' series. One of my favorite characters is Justin and hope to come across a book of his own at some point - he just makes me laugh!! And speaking of laughing - there are some se...more
The renegade hunter is a funny, sassy book full of mischief. I found the scene when everybody is thinking of rhyme so Lucian doesn’t find out Nicholas is back quiet ridiculously funny. Yet again there is another rogue that needs catching and it’s the renegade hunter at hand, but he loses his balance when he meets jo. Jo who happens to be damsel in distress can Nicholas safe her? – Of course he can! 50 years on the run for something he didn’t even commit – know that’s ironic. Believing th...more

I had been looking forward to Nicholas' story, and I wasn't disappointed. I absolutely loved Nicholas, he was so sweet and I just knew there would be a big, misunderstood explanation around his past. You couldn't help but feel sorry for him, he had been through so much heartache and really through no fault of his own! As for Jo, what a really great character, she was so sassy and really stood up for what she believed in. I did think she seemed to accept everyt...more

WORTHLESS - FRUSTRATING - NO ENDING
I loved this books until the very end. in fact as I got near the end I was thinking I could not think of anything wrong with it and would probably rate it 5 of 5 stars (something I rarely do). And then it ended ABRUPTLY.
Silly me, when i pay $7.99 for a mass market paperback I expect to get a complete story. (okay I hate cliff hangers and actively avoid the urban fantasy genre, because of cliff hangers) But Hello! This was a romance genre...more

The Argeneau vampire series is one I've been reading and loving for the last few years; this instalment marks the third book in a trilogy within the series, that should be read in order (a lot of the earlier books I read completely out of order and it didn't make much difference, but lately they're more tied together). Even so, each book deals with a different hero and heroine and is their own complete story, despite continuing plot lines.

AND WE'RE BACK.
I knew I would like this one better than the first two in the Rogue Hunter off-shoot. Jo/Nicholas was a better pairing than Sam/Mortimer or Decker/Dani (so much so that Decker/Dani weren't even in this book. haha.)
Jo is one feisty chick. I adored her take on Nicholas' past, and the scene where she threw the glass of wine on him.

I was born in 1142 which is why my first love is historicals. I’ll let you guess why I love stories of immortals…er…well, vampires to you people. When I first started writing the family history, everyone was up in arms, afraid I was revealing too much, but I explained they were being published as fiction and I wouldn’t use real names. Of course, that was before I found I just couldn’t write the st...more
