I read the book Sticky Fingers, By Niki Burnham. Sticky Fingers is a novel based on a teenage girls life. Her name is Jenna. She is a straight A student and was just accepted into Harvard University. Her boyfriend, Scott, applied as well but was rejected. Scott is also a straight A student and very athletic. He is a down to earth guy until he begins to pressure Jenna into premarital things. When Jenna repeatedly denis Scotts request he decides to slip a drug into her drink during a party, hopin...more

High school senior Jenna Kossarian is on the right track of life. She has a perfect long-term boyfriend Scott, an amazing best friend Courtney, and has just recently been accepted early action to Harvard. Life couldn’t be any better, in her opinion.

There’s only one thing that’s annoying her now. Scott keeps on pressuring her to have sex. They’ve been together for more than a year, he argues, and they sincerely love each other. Why not just do it? But every time the situation arises, Je...more

This book was not at all what I was expecting, and that's a good thing. I figured it would be the pretty cliched deal about a heroine whose on track for great things and then decides to start partying and chucks it all away. Jenna, and Niki Burnham, really surprised me.

Jenna was a pretty consistent character in the story. She stays strong, she stays on track, despite the fact that her friends are the ones self-destructing around her. She does make a couple bad choices, but on the...more

One of A Few Lessons to Learn

"Sticky Fingers" by Niki Burnham has been one of my top reads for 2010. Every chapter ends as a cliff hanger, and every page you read just makes you want to read even more!

As told in the point of view of 18 year old Jenna Kassarian, perfect grades, the ideal boyfriend, and her best friend, Courtney are the top things on her mind. To some girls, Jenna may be the definition of perfect, but not to herself. Jenna has a few problems with...more

I read this book because I knew what one of its core conflicts was: whether or not the main character Jenna, a high school senior, is ready to lose her virginity. I wanted to see what message books like these send our young girls. While I may not have liked everything in the book, I realized this is reality. I wouldn't recommend it necessarily, but it was good for me to see what kind of literature high school girls have at their fingertips.

I really liked this book and there is a part of me that's really glad that everything turns out okay for Jenna in the end.

What bothers me about this book is that this author took an opportunity to really deal with an issue teens go through today and they shied away from it. I think this book would have had much more of an impact on me had it actually dealt with the aftermath of the attempted date rape or an actual date rape. So much bothered me about how glossed over everything after t...more

Sticky fingers was about a girl named Jenna. She was perfect. She had the perfect boyfriend. The perfect grades. And basically the perfect life. She was really serious about her grades. That is until Jenna had gotten into Harvard. Things started to change. Her boyfriend told her to just relax and take a break on being serious about her grades. So as usual, she listened to him and went to this party. At the party she did more than relaxing. She had a couple of drinks and in one if those drinks sh...more

This book is about a girl named Jenna. She gets perfect grades, the most perfect boyfriend, the perfect life. Her boyfriend and her are both really smart, and her best friends parents just got divorce. She is always very strict and never gets loose. But when she gets into Harvard and her boyfriend convinces her that she need a break. She takes one drink at a party and the next day she finds out that she got drugged. What happened there?

Okay, so don't get me wrong, this book wasn't horrible. I actually pretty enjoyed it - it was one of those uber fast reads, where you find yourself almost skimming through the pages. Having said this, it was completely predictable and aside from the supposedly shocking "twist" ending, it had a bit of a slow, empty plotline. I found myself waiting and waiting for the story to properly kick in and then realising that I was already halfway through the book, so probably shouldn't expect a whole lot ...more

This book serves well as a quick read. I liked that the book deals with sexual pressure experienced by young people, but that it does not have all characters diving into this desire.

Even though the characters are seniors in high school, I would recommend this book to younger high school students. The reason - I think that most students who can relate to the main character (aiming for Ivey league college acceptances) may not be interested in a book such as this one.

Sticky Fingers follows 18 year old Jenna, a high school senior whose life seems to be going in the right direction.
All her hard work and extra studying seems to have paid off when she gets an early acceptance letter from Harvard, although Scott her boyfriend didn't get in, which completely ruins their plans to be together at Harvard next year!

After being accepted to her dream school, Scott tries to get Jenna to calm down and let her hair down a bit, go out now and then and not ...more

The perfect over-achieving main character goes into this book facing much of what young females, and young males, face today. The books starts off with a familiar feeling for those who can read Jenna’s emotions and have memories of their own sparked.

Pressure is thrown at Jenna from not only the Harvard acceptance letter in front of her but from her boyfriend, best friend, and the fact that whatever decisions she makes they can’t all be taken back. That doesn’t only apply to her th...more

I felt like this had no plot. I think the climax should have been the big conflict and then the rest of the book, how she dealt with it. It seemed like she had no personal flaws.

NOw this is a book that every girl needs to read. In this book there are events that take place that could happen to any of us and we need to be aware of them.

Ok, after getting 1/3 of the way in I started getting into the book. The first 1/3 of the book seemed like too much dialogue to me, but after that things started to happen.

Jenna is a straight arrow type of girl. Smart and does everything right. Follows all the rules. Her boyfriend is also very smart and a jock, but he knows how to loosen up sometimes and tries to get her to do the same. When she just can't seem to he seems patient and understanding with her.

Then there is...more

This book was honestly quite boring. The main character has no real definition to her. They tell you what shes like but you never really grasp who she is. You only grasp that shes good in school. Her "best" friend is no friend I would ever want. This book brings up a few good topic that should be discussed with teens. But I feel like the later topic was discussed in a rush. You do not expect it come. And its all in like the last 20-30 pages of a 274 page book? I just did not like the s...more

Knowing one's self is one of lifes greatest accomplishments. Many spend their whole lives not knowing what they truely want to be happy. Jenna is not one of those people. She is smart, driven, and accomplished at only seventeen. Although, the one thing that she may not have planned on is how others decisions can also influence her future. Sticky Fingers is an entertaining read, as well as, a learning lesson for the younger generation. Sometimes even the people you think you can trust can not alw...more

Jenna, an over achiever with a perfect reputation for commitment and dedication holds an impressive life. She has the ideal perfect boyfriend, perfect grades, best friend....everything is just perfect.

I'm teetering somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars. I really liked it.
It's one of those books that has serious issues in it... as in the characters have very serious things happen to them, so it wasn't like a bubbly-happy book, like I normally read...

The whole book... oh... I almost feel bad liking it! The main character, Jenna--her life just kinda falls apart little by little throughout the course of the book... She starts out with a perfect little life. She just got into Ha...more

I read this once before in one sitting, and obtained no information from it that I couldn't even tell anyone what it was about. Rereading it, I noticed it's actually a cute little book. It's about all the pressures that everyone -- especially college bound teenagers -- deal with. College applications, etc. But there's also peer pressure; pressure to go out and do things you don't want to do. Pressures to have sex when you're not ready.

At first, I couldn't get into it. Being in my 20'...more

All Jenna Kassarian cared about was making good grades and getting into the college of her choice. When she finally get's accepted into college, she starts to loosen up. Changes are happening around her so fast, she's afraid to lose control because she doesn't like the changes, with her best friend behavior to her boyfriend preasuring for more.
When she takes her one drink at a party, suddenly it seems her straight A's won't protect her from reality.

Having just finished this book I have to say I am a little dissapointed on the whole. The story started off well but it took along time to get into the books main story well over half way through although I was slightly socked at the ending and felt it was well paced the rest of the book let it down however the backstory and her continous telling of how much she loved Scott worked well with the ending. I would recommend this as a quick read perfect for the beach

Jenna tries to do the right thing and stay in control of her life, which is how she earned early acceptance to Harvard, but her boyfriend thinks it is time for her to let go a little. He is pressuring her for sex, and although she wants to lose her virginity to him, she also feels like maybe she shouldn't. She is afraid to let go a little for fear she will not stop there. Her best friend is having lots of problems and Jenna is trying to help her but is not sure she is getting the full story. ...more
