I really enjoyed this book and will read the others in the series - as soon as my Kindle gets fixed! Again the main character is a woman who doesn't do whatever because she's told to not do it. I'm so over simpering, ditzy women that finding strong women characters is refreshing!

Here's what Publisher's Weekly had to say about the book:
"Sweeney (Pick Your Poison) launches the Cats in Trouble mystery series with a meandering whodunit. Jillian Hart is content making and selli More...

Yeow, or should that be meow? The title drew me to read this book because I love quilts, mysteries, and cats, but the heroine, Jillian Hart, of the first book in this "Cats in Trouble Mystery" series is seriously obsessed with her kitties! Granted there seems to be good reason, since she is new to the small town of Mercy, South Carolina, and living alone because her husband died 10 months prior, leaving her isolated and lonely. Her 3 cats are her only company and best friends, and are More...

When Jillian Hart returns home from a business trip, she discovers one of her beloved cats is missing. There clearly has been a break-in, and it's unclear whether Chablis was catnapped or got out of the house. Nothing else is missing. When her house is burglarized a second time, this time the thief caught on tape, she takes matters into her own hand and goes to confront him. Only, what she finds is a dead body.

Jillian is sure the murder is tied to the cats that have been going missing More...

Attending the quilt show in Houston recently, I happened upon a table of books for sale, and several authors were there to sign books if you liked. I talked with Leann Sweeney about her mystery series; one set in various Texas cities, and one set around the quilting world. I picked up the first book in each series.

I would give this 2 1/2 stars if halves were allowed. In all fairness, I don't like cats, so to read a mystery where cats figure prominently enough to have top billing in th More...

WOW!!!!
This has the potential to be a REALLY great series. Very well written with LOTS of humor. The "crime" was very believable, as were all the characters (including the cats. We have cats. They ARE that smart). Jillian is a delightful (if slightly odd, in a good way) heroine, as are her wine-named kitties, who all have interesting personalities of their own (ONE is allergic to humans!!!).

I really enjoyed this bo More...

The Cat, The Quilt and the Corpse is the first book in the Cats in Trouble Mysteries series by Leann Sweeney.

I'm an avid cat lover and am constantly bossed around by my own two felines, so when I saw that Leann Sweeney had a new series out involving cats of course I had to read it!

Jill's new life in Mercy is in shambles when her house is broken into and her cat, Syrah, is missing. She sets on the trail to find Syrah and discovers a dead body, by the way of a evil man who More...

Don’t expect to get away with murder if you catnap a cat-loving quilter’s cat.

***

Widow Jillian Hart is hysterical after Syrah, her purebred Abyssinian cat, goes missing after a break-in. When the security camera she has installed reveals the feet of the thief trying to catnap yet another cat from her, she springs into action only to find somebody already confronted the miscreant, with a knife. Why won’t the police chief accept that the murder was about the cats, especially w More...

This is the first in a series.
Jillian Hart is recently widowed. She lives with her three cats by a lake in a small town in South Carolina. She makes cat quilts as a hobby/income. One of her cats is catnapped and she finds him at a house across town; she also finds the owner of the house stabbed in the kitchen. As she clears herself as a suspect and helps track down owners of the other stolen cats found in the house, she begins to come out of her self-imposed exile of grief and meets people More...

An interesting twist to a mystery - add cats. Not necessarily a new concept, but this mystery series is very cat-driven, and it's not half bad. Jillian Hart, a widow with three spoiled cats, becomes involved in a murder when she finds the victim with a knife sticking out of his belly. She also finds cats, and is intent on rescuing them. If you like cats and a cozy mystery, then this is the book for you. If you are fanatical about cats, then this is really the book for you, as it is filled with a More...

I bought this one for a theme read in one of my reading groups. Cats have always been an important part of my life, so reading it was bound to be a pleasure. I'm so glad I did. Ms. Sweeney's characters are full-bodied, just like I like them. She rounds them out with both good and bad; strong characters to build on. I thoroughly enjoyed all the cat facts interspersed throughout the storyline; some I knew and some I didn't. Overall, this is a very good book and I definitely would recommend it. Can More...

A well-written cozy mystery, featuring cats and the crazy people who love the. In the interest of full disclosure, I'm a cat-owner myself, and I treat my Bailey like a spoiled child. Nonetheless, I found the heroine's cat-craziness both unbelievable and disconcerting. The whole novel really suffers from poorly-developed, unrealistic characters and plots. I don't expect a cozy mystery to be either literary or realistic, but this novel was so lacking in these characteristics it was distracting More...

My most recent read was "The Cat, The Quilt And The Corpse" by Leann Sweeney. It is a "cozy mystery" which I was not familiar with, nor was I familiar with the author or her series, "Cats In Trouble" mysteries. I chose this book as part of a book club I came across on Twitter. It was one of three choices for the next meeting and after weighing two of the three titles, I went with this one.

Cozy mysteries are stories that are more lighthearted than other m More...

I have to admit, I really enjoyed this book. I actually enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. I don't know if I was just on vampire/fae/paranormal burnout or what, but it was nice to get back to a "real" story.

I liked the main character, Jillian, even if she did seem a little over the top when it came to her cats. Some of her actions were a little hard to believe (like when she still stormed the house looking for her cat even after stumbling across the body), but aft More...

At first I didn't think I would like this book. It is written in the first person, and I've had a lot of bad luck with books written like that and the drama it dumps on the reader. But this book didn't do that. Jillian Hart is a crafter and cat-lover, two things that give her a plus in my book. If fact, she cares more for the cats in trouble than the person murdered. Another plus from me.

The characters around her good too, from her first friend Candace, the female police officer wit More...

I found the main character to be quite odd. Don't get me wrong, I'm an animal lover. I'm allergic to cats, but used to own 3 before I had to rehome them. So, I totally get someone being freaked out when a thief took a cat. However, the extremity of this woman's reaction seemed very strange to me.

Plus, I thought the actual story and other characters just didn't ring the least bit realistic. Granted, one doesn't read a cozy for total realism, but I'd like my stories a little less More...

Catnapping, murder, small town America and Quilting, this is the first book in a new series and I found I read it from cover to cover in one sitting so I am looking forward to the next, three rescue cats (one allergic to humans) and their staff (sorry the lady they live with!) have to cope with one of the feline members being stolen, a corpse being found and the human member of the team slowly getting her life back after the death of her husband a year previously. Would I recommend this? without More...

I got this as a retirement gift, sat down to read a chapter or two and basically finished the whole thing. It was a fun read, but I don't know if I read it so quickly because it's been so long since I actually sat down and read a book, or because it was very good. I did enjoy the story - cats and quilts are things I'm pretty fond of. I did feel that although we were introduced to the guilty party as part of the story, this person wasn't as fleshed out as the killer should be.

I already love the Yellow Rose mysteries by this author, so I was happy to find this, the first in a new series. While as an adult I've had dogs, growing up I was always drawn to the cats on the farm, so I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Jillian Hart and her furry companions (love the names!). Jillian was living a nice, quiet life making her quilt until one day when her peace was shattered....I won't say anymore as I don't want to spoil it for anyone! Just enjoy!

Jillian, a widow with 3 cats, has one of her cats stolen. She searches for it and discovers other cats have gone missing. Her cat is found in the mansion of a man who, when she goes into his house, finds him murdered. The murdered man and his partner, the police chief's girlfriend, stole cats to replace missing or dead animals. Jillian helps find the murderer, meets a new guy, Tom, and becomes friends with a policewoman, Candace.

Leann Sweeney is a new author for me. It took me a while to get "into" this book. I thought the beginning was somewhat slow and there are a lot of characters to get familiar with. Leann definitely makes sure that she dots all the i's and crosses all the t's. By the end of the book I was comfortable with the characters and I am looking forward to reading the next book.

Excellent first book in this new series about Jillian,a quilter and owner of cats that bear wine names ( really cool ! )I love Leann's writing style and I will definitely keep reading. Of course the fact that I' m a cat aficionado is a plus! You can expect to have a good time curled up with "The Cat, the quilt and the Corpse" and trying to find out who the killer is.

Other reviewers find fault with the method of cat rescue, handling of the cat quilts and plot. I can't say that they are wrong, but I just didn't care. It had cats, quilts and mystery. The characters were colorful and the leading character was likeable. There was humor, surprise and wonderful descriptions of living with multiple cats. Go, Leann. Write More.

The story was interesting, although the author did focus on repeating a great many tiny details. Instead of bringing the story more to life, it seemed a bit odd to harp on an old lady's poor lipstick application or a friend's crazy driving. The protagonist is a bit obsessed with cats, too; enough to almost put one off the story. Nevertheless, the book was okay for a little rainy Sunday afternoon read.

I finally had room on my TBR list to start reading Leann's latest series. It's funny, cute, and an amazingly easy read. I love the characters that Jillian (our intrepid heroine) is surrounding herself with, and the love interest that is working his way into her life.

I'm looking forward to reading all the books in this series and I hope you do to.

I felt like the author had a a little difficulty developing her characters initially. I LOVED the Yellow Rose mysteries, and was disapointed in the first few chapters. But the book was much better the further I read. I felt that Jillian was much more interesting in the final chapters as she investigated the murder.
