Well, obviously you can't. But I found it didn't take much longer than that to learn the Korean writing system (Hangul), which is extraordinarily simple and logical. Quoting the Wikipedia article:
Hangul was promulgated by Sejong the Great, the fourth king of the Joseon Dynasty. The project was completed in late December 1443 or January 1444, and described in 1446 in a document titled Hunmin Jeongeum ("The Proper Sounds for the Education of the People").

In explaining the need for the new script,
I found a bunch of bizarrely chauvenistic aphorisms, while memorable in themselves, really didn't function well as a mnemonic device for learning Korean. If those were really the basis for Korean writing (while reading this book, I was wondering if the author was pushing a personal philosophy or attempt at humor), I'm disappointed. I initially was so impressed at the design of the Korean writing system that I thought it was worthy of a science fiction writer (Klingon, move over).
Well, it was mostly accurate, but it would have taken me a lot longer than 40 minutes if I was a newbie. ;) But... for your enjoyment, let me present you with a sample from pg. 64. REALLY. Take a minute, it's worth it...

"Combination rules"

* The consonant (father) comes first, followed by the vowel (mother)

* Father always comes FIRST

* Occasionally, a man may have 2 or 3 wives

* If she is standing, her man should be standing on the left. If she is laying down, he should be lying above her. (WHAT?!?
Korean language structure is indeed easy to learn, but this book is uninspiring, and mistake filled.
