The Irish writer John Millington Synge died at age 37, in 1909, of Hodgkin’s Disease, for which there was at that time no cure. He, along with William Butler Yeats, George William Russell, and Lady Augusta Gregory, were instrumental in establishing the Irish National Theater as part of the Irish Literary Revival, and, with many fellow authors of that era, he spent time at Lady Gregory’s estate at Coole Park.
