Magic Knight Rayearth combines swords, sorcery, mecha, and magical girls in one of Clamp's best loved series. The basis for the hit anime of the same name, the Rayearth manga tells the tale of three young girls, suddenty transported into a magical world that they must then save. My opinion of this book: complicated

It acts like a video game. One with a super long exposition where next to nothing happens. One where you sit and stare, unable to do anything for forever. Too much talking, not enough action, and when we get action, it's anti-climactic. Though, CLAMP has always seemed to struggle with fight scenes (excepting Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE, Volume 01).

The characters, however, are pretty good, though the art can be a little... off at times.

CLAMP-nimimerkin alle kätkeytyvän manganelikon "Magic Knight Rayearth #1: Taikasoturit" (Punainen jättiläinen, 2013) on taikatyttömangaa kliseisimmillään. Hikaru, Umi ja Fuu, kolme tavallista koulutyttöä, tempaistaan kesken luokkaretken Cephiron fantasiamaailmaan. Siellä he saavat kuulla olevansa legendaarisia taikasotureita, joiden apua tarvitaan prinsessa Emerauden vapauttamiseen ja maailman pelastamiseen. Ja sitten lähdetään matkalle, jonka aikana mitellään erilaisia demoneja vastaan ja pääst...more

Magic Knight Rayearth review

Art: CLAMP's Work is iconic and beautiful very soft and shojo and mystical A

Characters: Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu. Hikaru is an animal lover and short smart and determined, umi is tough and hard headed at time and fuu is the air headed humors logical pessimistic these three girls along with the other characters they come across are very well defined and while there names are hard to remember at first which one is which their personality shine though enough that you know w...more
When adding books to the cart on one of the websites where I shop for books I found this manga, but it wasn't in the three seperate volumes - they had a copy where all three volumes had been compiled together, so I had ordered that one because I had thought that this manga looked interesting enough to buy all three volumes at once. Also, it was from Clamp and that company has really amazed me with its storylines, the way they always come out so vibrant and interesting. The art is of course getti...more

This is the first Manga book I have ever read - it was fun. It is like a graphic novel. It was a fantasy book - portal book.. three little girls get pulled into a fantasy world to save the princess and therefore that whole world. they are magic knights that have to learn their magic and their capabilities by facing different foe and monsters and meeting people that will help them along the way. It was cute. the language is english, but I could tell that it was more culturally rooted japanese cul...more

I really enjoyed this volume! The pictures are beautiful and I can already tell that I'm going to like the storyline because it involves exploring and adventure. There also seem to be a lot of female characters, and they are all really prettily drawn. :) This novel centers around Umi, Fuu, and Hikaru and their sudden transport to Cephiro. So far they have met a smith named Presia and a guru named Clef who wears a lot of headgear and looks like a ten-year-old. As an added plus, there is also Moko...more
If you've never read anything by Clamp, Magic Knight Rayearth is a pretty good place to start. A shojo fantasy journey story, MKR weaves the story of three high school girls, Hikaru, Umi and Fuu who are transported from our world into another world called Cephiro. In Cephiro, they learn that they, like the Hobbits and Jedi before them, are someone's (in this case Cephiro and the princess - who is in a different castle) only hope. Only, it isn't that easy. And there's Mokona, who drove me crazy u...more
This manga has a nice story, good graphics, and amusing characters. It reminded me a little of card captor Sakura (not a good or bad thing, just an observation). Overall, a very good manga. The only thing I didn't like (and this is entirely my own fault) is that the manga I purchased was "flipped" so you could read it the "English way," which made it slightly less enjoyable for me. Of course, I did get it for only a dollar, and who can really complain about getting manga at that prie?

This is my first manga that make me fall in love and addict to manga !!

CLAMP has such detail drawing in this manga with soft touch. I really love it ..
The story is unique and encourage the reader to imagine the other world.

However, the character is too centered on Hikaru Shidou that make the other character (Umi Ryuzaki and Fu Hooji) not as special as Hikaru Shidou.

But in the end..
This manga have special memory for me :)
Gaak. This manga was so cliché. x_x Three girls get sucked into another world because the captured princess needs them to become the legendary magic knights who will save her and the world. This book was funny, and it was nice to see our beloved Mokona, but the plot... the characters' eyes kind of annoyed me, too. X/1999 annoyed me for that reason as well.
I was disappointed. I was hoping for something more brilliant from CLAMP.
If you like clamp you would like this book the story-line its wonderful can not say anything bad about this book I don't have a hard copy of it but would try to get it when I get money and re-read it again the theme and the character bios are great would recommend it to someone if they would like to read it.
My friend recommended this book to me and i read this in grade 5 can't remember the date. all i know is that is was good little story, how 4 girls or 3-can't remember;fell into a magical realm of witches wizards and stuff. I like these kind of things. However the name of the book sucks. Really bad title in my opinion.
I saw the anime forever ago but I didn't ever get to see the end. It was also in japanese and I was knitting at the time so I don't think I was paying much attention. Anyway, I like the series because it is:

a) made by CLAMP
b) classic manga
c) Mokona isthe most awesome thing EVER! Puu!
This was one of the earlier manga series I read. I like the characters and the concept of the story. The artwork is beautiful, but drives me crazy sometimes - it's way too busy to be done in black & white. You can hardly tell what's going on sometimes.
This manga by CLAMP starts out as your general fantasy: three girls summoned to mysterious fantasy world to save it, blah blah blah. But the ending was amazingly surprising and made this series worth reading! Great work by CLAMP, as usual.

Hikaru, Umi and Fuu are three girls that take to another dimention and they choosen to be a protector of Cephiro's late Princess.

it's all about amazing and long battle. Kinda resemble to Saint Seiya.

I don't really know why I like this series so much. Perhaps they just managed to have some cool lore elements and develop a character who hits a ton of my 'like' buttons in Hikaru Shidou. Good job CLAMP!
Not Clamp's finest hour. The characters and story here are muddled and don't live up to other time traveling fantasies like Fushigi Yugi. Unless you are a Clamp die hard, give them a pass.
A good manga book for the average fantasy book reader looking to read their first graphic novel. I think this book has a great story, although I don't think it is the best of the CLAMP stories.

I marked only volume 1 as read, but it means I read all of them. I only didn't want to mark one book for each manga volume and didn't find a goodreads book that comprehends all the volumes.
A group of three high school girls from different schools are whisked to a land where they suddenly become heroes who have to save a fantasy world and their own world from destruction.
This is one of first manga series I've ever read and it hooked me. The characters are relatable and the plot is a mix of cute comedy and drama. Also the art style is really beautiful.
this book is amazing. you can tell a lot of time went into this bokk. all of the characters have very detailed personalities and make this book an interesting read

Very old-school and it's one of the shoujo manga series everyone's competing against. I love this manga but I do hope to find better translation.

One of my absolute favorite series and the first manga I ever really read. Even had my younger siblings watching the anime on VHS many moons ago haha

It's a good beginning to a trilogy based off a RPG. The overall art is good, and the character personalities are easy to pick up on.
I'd watched and liked the anime version when I was still a kid.

For now, I got no plans for buying a copy.

I love CLAMP manga. This is one of their first efforts and the anime was HUGE! A little silly, but really good too.
