This is the BEST book on the topic of weight loss, nutrition and enjoying food. I listened to the audio-book version about a year ago and never went on a diet again. It involves a change of perception and adding vitamin P (pleasure) to eating, not counting calories or eating a bit of your favotire food and worrying that every morsel is going to make you fat =S Bye bye torture and hello to having a healthy and happy relationship with food :P
It's a must read for eveyone interested in nutriti...more

I enjoyed this book. It actually contained many ideas similar to those in Susan Taylor's _Vital Energy Program_ but I felt like David did a better job of using Western science to explain how slow food customs actually help strengthen your metabolism. Some that I need to adopt right away include, getting into a rhythm of eating, including eating the largest meal at noon and relaxing for a little while after. But bestowing awareness and taking pleasure in your meals and listening to your "gut...more

This is another book I wasn't sure I'd actually enjoy reading, and I ended up truly savoring it. It's as much about spiritual life as it is about food, and yet another book that's best read very, very slowly, as it's full of depth and encourages a thoughtful approach (kind of like the title suggests). It's inspiring--again, not just about how to choose what to eat, but really how to live your life.

Spending more time eating -- eat more slowly. Breathe (oxygen drives metabolism). Relax, de-stress. Eat only high quality food. Breathe while eating. Eat nutrient dense food. Don't multitask while eating.Get adequate rest and sleep. Don't skip breakfast. Make lunch your biggest meal, or at least make dinner smaller. Don't eat a large meal within 4 hours of going to sleep.

This book helped me understand all of the factors involved in metabolism and weight. Basically the premise is that the *way* we eat is as important as *what* we eat and metabolism is made up of more factors than just digestion -- and food is a holistic thing, not just a bunch of chemicals lumped together. The science he uses to back up his points makes a lot of sense to me and resonates with my own intuition about food and eating. His method is not about dieting, counting calories, or quanti...more

I always love what Marc David has to say about eating. This book is full of great suggestions about mindfulness in eating, the importance of pleasure, etc. I just wish that he didn't imply that eating that way will lead to weight loss, when he knows that it might for some and not others. This disingenuousness truly bothers me.

Goes hand-in-hand with his "Nourishing Wisdom". Tips for slowing down our eating and the impact it has on our metabolism and how our bodies make use of the food. When eating with friends, I try to guage the quickness of my eating by others at the table, and try to be the last one to finish.

The is THE book about eating. This "slow down diet" isn't so much about WHAT is eaten as it is about HOW it is eaten. The author has done his research thoroughly and presents compelling case studies and more to show the importance of slowing down and enjoying the meal. The only chapter that didn't work for me was the chapter on story. I could sort of see what he was trying to say, but I think he needed to take another whack at it, give it another try. On the whole, though, this was a l...more

This book, although called a diet book, is so much more. It emcompasses not just what you eat, but how, why, and more. I appreciated the research the author was able to cite to back up his claims, such as that eating slower actually increases metabolism. He devotes chapters to the quality of the food we eat, how to eat more mindfully, with gratitude, and with pleasure.

man, this whole book/movement was amazing. its about how to treat your body and your food right...

it was not condescending or focused on weight/looks at all. i really felt empowered to change how i was eating food that i love and honoring the process that gets delicious morsels to my plate. i knew it all before but this book really brought it home.

I really enjoyed this book. My sister-in-law loaned it to me and I have been slowly making my way through it. I finished it last night and I am glad to have read it. It introduced some new ideas regarding our relationship with food (and life) that definitely made sense to me. I recommend this read to anyone who wants to feel better about themselves.

I loved this book. Probably the best thing I've read on the topic of eating and one's relationship to what they are eating. This changed how I feel and how I approach food.
Shannon
