Gamiani, or Two Nights of Excess
"' What a picture ' She shivered, making her breasts quiver, and I realized that this confession, far from horrifying her, was feeding her lust. You'll send the devil back into our flesh.' "

Gamiani is a somewhat Sadean quasi-Gothic erotic novel of the 1830s which has been attributed, although not certainly, to Alfred De Musset and which even reached the hands of Edith Wharton no less.
However, you would not know any of this from my Edition, a second-hand copy of its inclusion in the Erotic Prints Society's 'Scarlet Library' which has no introduction, notes or bibiliography.

Interesting book. Author supposedly wrote it as an expose of his former lover, George Sand. Written in 1833, it is virulently anti-church.
There are numerous descriptions of extremely sexual, orgiastic events in churches, convents.

well, this book is a bit much.!!! donkeys, monkeys, nuns, monks, and i had to look up the word priapus. he uses that word a lot. but it was great fun, and totally over the top.
Well-written, erotic, and an astonishingly sympathetic view of lesbian sex. It is difficult to believe this book was written in 1833. To be sure, it keeps close to the more familiar themes of 18th and 19th c. pornography- phallocentrism, sadomasochism, voyeurism, incest. However the author/narrator (writer Alfed de Musset, hidden behind a pseudonym) recognizes the depths and legitimacy of lesbian sex, with its sensuality, passion, and satisfaction.
scandalous but fun.
