Para mi sorpresa, la exdiva y simbolo sexual en los setentas y ochentas Virginia Vallejo posee gran pluma y estilo. Su voz te engancha rápidamente en el relato, quizás debido a la curiosa ‘morbosidad’ por conocer algunos detalles de la vida privada del Capo Pablo Escobar. "Loving Pablo, Hating Escobar" would be the English translation. I picked it up just to practice my Spanish, interesting insight into the drug lord world. Left me a bit angry. I think the author tries to make the reader sympathetic and bring humanity to the characters but she fails, these are all terrible people in a terrible world.
They should make this book required reading in Latin American studies programs. Virginia Vallejo is better known for being a socialite, model, newscaster/journalist, and actress; but I am disappointed that she didn't write any more books. Vallejos conceit becomes a bit much at times with the inventories of the millionaire boyfriends who couldn't capture her heart the way that Pablo Escobar did. This is Virginia Vallejo's version of her relationship with Pablo Escobar, and of Colombia's history during the late 80's and early 90's. As Escobar's lover she seems to have had a front row seat to some of the biggest events in Colombia's recent history.
