Margaret “Meggie” Dillion lives in Rockaway, New York with her mother, father and grandfather. Her old brother, Eddie, has enlisted to fight in the war and everyone is having a difficult time coping with Eddie’s absence.
Meggie’s Grampa is German and she’s heard rumours around town that anyone German will be arrested and Meggie worries constantly about him. The fact that he has a German accent isn’t helping her feel any better nor is the fact that two older boys came and painted a red swastika on...more

Meggie and her family move to Willow Run, MI from Rockaway Beach where her parents work in a bomber factory. Her brother, Eddie joined up and is M.I.A. after Normandy. She makes new friends, and realizes that while this is a worse situation for her, it's a better situation for others. This is really more of a mood piece than a "story" although it for sure has a plot. A good war story for young girls.
This book follows the story of Meggie Dillon, whom readers were first introduced to in Giff's book "Lily's Crossing." While Lily spends World War II in their neighborhood in Rockaway, New York, Meggie moves with her parents to Willow Run, Michigan, where her father has gotten a job at Henry Ford's enormous factory manufacturing planes for the War effort. Meggie's having a hard enough time adjusting to being the only child, as her beloved older brother Edward has joined the army & is statione...more
Willow Run is a place in Michigan. It is the place where Meggie and her family move to help America win the war (WW II). Willow Run is also the name of this book, which is part 2 to the story "Lily's Crossing". So read Lily's Crossing first before you read Willow Run. I enjoyed it very much. I just want to KNOW though how things ended up---of course we won the war! But I want more details. It's not terrible that we don't know everything, it just bugs me not to know! I guess I will determine in m...more

Margaret "Meggie" loves living in Rockaway, NY and spending time with her grandpa in his garden or going fishing. When her father takes a job in Willow Run building planes for the war, Meggie must leave her friend Lily and her grandfather behind in Rockaway.
It was interesting to see what it must have been like living in near the factory. The housing was very basic and everyone was living very close together. The reoccuring questions about courage was also interesting. I would recommend t...more

This book was cool to me because it was set in World War II.Meggie (the main character) has a brother thats in the military and a grandpa who is german.Kids on Meggies grandpas street keep calling Megies grampa a Nazi(WHICH HES NOT!!!!!)Meggies dad gets a new job to help build B-24 bomber planes. They move to Willow Run,where they find out that Eddie(the brother in the military)is missing in action. If yo want to find out what happens read Willow Run.
willow run was a very short read its based during world war two. When Meggie and her family are forced to move to a plane factory called willow run sehhas to leave her life behind, and sart a new one. She makes friends with a rough boy named Harlan and a girl named patches. Then her brother goes missing..... to find out wether he is alive or not you must read this book: Willow Run by Patricia Reilly Giff.
Patricia Reilly Giff really is a master at painting a realistic historical background, and taking readers back in time a few years. My mother would have been only slightly older than Meggie during World War II, so I was able to envision what parts of her childhood were like.
They may not be flashy, but historical fiction titles by Patricia Reilly Giff are trustworthy, heartfelt, and solid.

this book was a personal fav. for me It had your action it had your history it had a little bit of everything in it. it takes place in Willow Run,Michagan during WWII maggie is the main character and her brother serves in the armed forces.Meggies grandfather was thretend by amaricans because he was german. If you want to find out more read willow run by Pat Reilley Giff
This is the companion story to Lily's Crossing, but told from Meggie's point of view as she leaves Rockaway for Michigan. It paints a true picture of what life was like for a young girl caught up in the midst of World War II as Meggie's father works in a factory that builds fighter planes. Meggie forges some unforgettable friendships and discovers new traits about herself.
I finished this book on a cliff-hanger and that is SO annoying for me! I loved a lot of things about this book, one of the things I loved was there is a real T.V. that we can watch today and that is bugs bunny. the other thing I loved about this book is the main character that tells the story is a girl me age, so it is easy for me to relate to her. Over all I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Not as good as Number the Stars. In Number the Stars, characters face life and death. In Willow Run, characters face happiness and unhappiness. The reason life and death have more of an impact is because you can see the troubles of the character more clearly, and actually feel very scared when something bad happenes to them.
This is a story happen in World War II. Meggie's older brother Edward has joined the army. Her family all worry about him and Meggie's grandpa because her grandpa is German, and heard that German will be arrest. His grandpa is often write the letter to her, sometimes she will mad、 sad or ease. But she gradually be more braver and know what she need to do now.
