Just reread SOAWD...and was reminded of how AMAZING Sophie Jordan is. This is my favorite of her books (though I love them all...), perfect tortured hero meets fabulous, feisty heroine...who dresses as a male (one of my favorite things). The reveal of her actual gender is perfectly pitched...you will not be able to put this one down. Sophie Jordan is one of the very best.

★★★☆☆ (This is a review of the audiobook.) This is well narrated by Emily Gray. I would certainly listen to her again. I give the narration ★★★★☆.

I didn’t realize I’d read this book before until I started listening to this one. Alas, I think I’ve turned into a prude. There are a couple of ‘ick factors’ in this one. The first one I tried to shake off, the second I couldn’t: (view spoiler)[Hero saves heroine at beginning of book and gives her a lift in his carriage. He has two less that proper women in the carr (hide spoiler)] More...

A savage smile twisted his lips. Anger burned in his blood. Dark and dangerous. He flattened both hands on the wall, one on either side of her head. Damp heat emanated from her body, drawing him in. Leaning closer, her palm rose up to flatten against his chest, clearly thinking to stop him.
Blistering heat sparked where they touched. Her gaze flared wide, almost directly on level with his. But she did not withdraw. Not as she should. Something held her hand there, a will that matched his own, a

My first book by SJ, but definitely not my last.
The reviews have said nearly all I want to say. I just love the bit at the start of the book where Dominic tries to shock Fallon in the carraige, I didn't expect that! Great scene.

I am going to order the sequel "In scandal they wed" Evies story straight away. Very entertaining enjoyable book.

Sophie Jordan has long been a favorite author of mine with the Firelight Series. While romances aren’t my usual read, I went along with it. what the heck right?

THAT WAS ONE OF THE BEST BOOK CHANCES I TOOK! The story was easy flowing but had a depth that pulled at heartstrings. And most of all, BELIEVING

Duke Damon - Dubbed the demon duke, he rightly lives up to the title with his sinful ways. But wicked? Not in the slightest, although he himself does not notice. Favorite scene of him:

A fun story of a woman pretending to be a man, a rake, intense attraction between the two, bitterness, numbness and an extra dose of the dramatic.

Fallon is having trouble holding a job when the only thing she really wants is a home of her own and security. Desperate, she disguises herself as a man and takes a job that brings her close to a renowned rake who had propositioned her once. He has no idea who she is and she gets to see firsthand how scandalous his life is.

Dominic desperately needs som More...

I picked this up from Amazon for the Kindle because it was $1.99 at the time otherwise I usually borrow these kind of book (historical romances) from the library. (Side-note I love that my library has ebooks I can read on my Kindle and Tablet)

The book starts off and introduces you to 3 girls at this scary all girls school called Penwich School for Virtuous Girls, it kind of sound like an all girls orphanage, where the principle doesn't feed them all the time and let the bullies run amuck and al More...

As this is my second book from Sophie Jordan, I find it much pleasantly paced than the final book in the series Wicked Nights with a Lover.

I like the premise of the story, Fallon who disguises as a man to get a job at the duke, Dominic Hale's household. It was kind of witty, fast paced and fresh take.

However, even though the hero and heroine instantly click with each other, the adoration between them filled 3/4 of the book, which is quite bothersome for me, since I want to know about Dominic and More...

Two people emotionally scarred from their childhoods, Fallon O'Rourke and Dominic Hale, Duke of Damon meet when she is being accosted in the street by her employers inebriated son who has been trying to get her to "play" with him and his friends. Dom passes this scene while in his carriage fondling the two women with him. When he stops to rescue her, she already has saved herself by kneeing the man in the groin. Dom gives her a ride and propositions her after trying to shock her while fondling More...

As I read this book, the following scene came to mind. Indluge me if you will as I describe it.

Living room. AUTHOR and BOOK sit by the cozy fire.

BOOK (in the most aww voice you can imagine): When I grow up, I want to be Jane Eyre !

AUTHOR looks down with the weary exasperation of adults.

AUTHOR: That's nice, dear, but that's a pretty big goal. Why don't we stick to the hot and heavy romance and leave classics to others?

BOOK: But I CAN be like Jane Eyre ! With serious themes, like slut-shaming a More...

"Sins of a Wicked Duke" is Sophie Jordan's latest historical with moderate heat about a young woman whose temperment and looks have made it hard for her to keep a job. So she does the unthinkable--cuts her long hair, disguises herself, and hires on as a footman!

Fallon's life took a hard turn as a young girl when her father died. She was sent to a school where her flame-red hair earned her especially harsh treatment from the headmaster. She hated every moment, but did cherish the two friends she More...

Can't help myself I just loved this book! It was really good, engaging, and fast paced. I felt like I truly understood the hero and heroine of the story. They where very connectable and easy to understand.

Fallon lost her father when she was a girl and has blamed the family that sent her father to his death ever since. She was sent to a school for girl where she learned much but was abused often with little to eat and where she found her two closest friends. Now she is an adult but life hasn't changed that much. She still wants a home for herself. She has had a hard time trying to find a stable job where she doesn't end up being fondled and almost forced into a man's bed against her will. So Fallo More...

This was just ok. I really didn't care for the hero Dominic, who was an asshat much of the time. He whores around, drinks heavily, finds it amusing to call his servants by the wrong name and his first attempt at "seduction" is to suck on another woman's breast in front of the heroine Fallon whom he has just met and whom he knows has just fought off the unwanted advances of another "gentleman." Keep on mind this is some time in the 19th Century, Fallon is a virgin, just faced possible rape from a More...

The story is about an educated heroine who pretends to be a man in order to find work and keep it. She's been fired numerous time from previous jobs due to being molested by male employers. This time she finds herself working for a libertine hero whom she met before when he was diddling with 2 prostitutes in his carriage and who propositioned her. She's fearful of being found out b/c of her attraction to him & what he might do as a consequence.

This book was really light on plot. The author tried to make it a bit angsty with a tormented hero and a cross dressing heroine but neither plot was developed properly so we end up with a story full of cliches that it's not satisfying.

Both main characters had tough childhoods, her in a terrible school (reminded me of the one Jane Eyre attended, with no food and girls dying left and right) and him with a vicar grandfather that hired a sadist governess to raise him. While the hero was completely d More...

I liked the concept of the story and very much liked Fallon. She survived rather harsh conditions and maintained her spirit and resourcefulness as well as common decency. In fact, in contrast to her, Dominic just seemed like a weak willed brat even though he had his own personal demons. Things get even stickier when his whoring and drinking buddy, Lord Hunt happens to be the son of the man who put her in the Penwich School after her father died. This part was pretty engrossing. I'll make this short.

Pages upon pages of no events but a rather boring attempt at romance between two poorly developed characters: Fallon The maiden and Dominic The demon duke.
Honestly, I have read much better UST, sensual banter and battle of 'resistyounot', in the (free)pages of fanfictions.
And being this an historical romance, well I couldn't even find a trace of something "historical" in here. In what year is this story set? Did I miss something? There's not even one date, an indication thr More...

A letdown and more than a little disgusting, IMO. The hero is a complete slut; I wouldn't touch him with tweezers, and I really don't understand why the heroine would find him attractive. He has reasons for being like he is, they always do, but he was too repulsive early on for me to care what they were. The heroine comes from rough circumstances and is actually fairly street smart, so you'd think she'd be afraid of contracting an STD from him:P Of course, she's in his household masquerading as More...

I loved it! I don't say this for a lot of books but I absolutely loved this book.

Yes, he is a bit of a bastard, playboy etc but it's what to be expected from a rogue, a rake etc. It's a bit refreshing to read where the rake actually shows HOW he's a rake, too many books have 'wicked' bad boy but we never actually see it but here, we see it... A lot. The other book that I can think of where the bad boy is actually a bad boy from the beginning to the end is London's Perfect Scoundrel by Suzanne E More...

I love the whole premise of a woman posing as a man in a historical romance novel. In this story, the heorine poses as the Duke's new footman. Hilarious situations happen as one of the maids falls in love with her, and at moments, she has trouble holding on to her manly facade.

What I like most about this book is that the Duke acts like normal man throughout the story. He has affairs throughout the book. We get to see a single man be a single man. One thing that usually gets on my nerves about m More...

I would have given this 4 stars if I weren't so turned off by the Duke, understand he's a rake but felt like that was pushed in our face and in the poor heroine's face a little too hard. So much in fact, one should question why she would allow such a man whore to touch her after seeing him touch others. I found myself skipping through some of the scenes with him and his ladyfriends. Ick!!! ((((shudder)))) The only thing he has going for him is that he recognizes the real thing even through his l More...

This review has gifs and language not suitable for church ladies.

First off the bat there's a lot of victim blaming on the part of the Duke, who is a right jerk, so it's pretty funny (in that not funny way at all) that Fallon and Dom end up together.

Some have criticized this book, saying a duke could never fall for a common woman, but that's the very thing I loved about this book. So many other historical novels have desperate women who must marry because they have been "compromised" or gentleman marrying because their honor demanded it. That is not the case with this book. The hero cares nothing for how he is seen or if he is considered indecent, and the heroine is a real woman, not someone who has been coddled or pampered all her life. It More...

While I made it through this one in a bit over a day, to be honest it wasn't very good. The book was insanely predictable, with me being able to call all the major events of the story almost to the exact page number they would happen on. The book was so formulaic even my boyfriend who has never read (and probably never will) a romance novel could predict what would happen next with very little to go on. A quick and easy read, but not a good one. This will probably be donated to the local library More...

For the romance reader the book is more a 3.5. Jordan seems pretty consistent at delivering a readable romance tale. I prefer the genre when it involves a rake and a virgin. It does tend to wrap up simplistically in terms of the rapid transition from lust to love. But, my expectations for historical romance are simple. Is it readable? Is there conflict and angst? Is there a resolution? If you are looking for descriptive love scenes pass this one by, but for a simple decent romance this one is pr More...

Very interesting romance story with good plot and strong characters. Fallon and Evie and Marguerite form a friendship during their difficult-to-survive years in Penwick School for virtuous girls. Now, after being hopelessly without any option she makes a very dangerous plan not carefully planning though that she'll fall in love with the wic More...
